  • Bravo to this very beautiful talented musician, she played that in the Key of Cool.

  • I love your facial expressions. :)

  • I like the whole thing but my favorite part is from 0:26 to 0:35

  • That was awsome Nina...u are one with the flute!

  • ah^^ it´s cool =)

  • Oh wow, that was amazing. It sounded so different, it didn't sound like a flute. BTW, thank you Nina for your teaching videos, I learned the flute ten years ago, but always got really dizzy after ten minutes. Now after not playing for ten years, I decided to give a try again, and start with the basics, getting the sound good first !!

  • What kind of flute do you play?

  • That sounds so good it almost sounds synthesized. Great job, clean sounding notes.

  • amazing!! i <3 it!! great version!! i really feel like the flute is actually telling me something and it's really cool when you feel something like that! :D once again AWESOME!! XD :) :P

  • Sweet flutter tonguing!

  • 0:52 What was that?

i have never heard that on a flute

    and i play it!

    It was AWSOME :D

  • it's called flutter tonguing :)

pretty much what you do is just roll your tongue (like 'rrrrrroll up the rrrrim to win', or similar to how you would pronounce 'r's while speaking spanish) while you play, and it makes that really cool sound

  • @xXxmayonakaxXx It's called flutter tonguing.

  • Hah, I really liked that - I don't play the flute - but that was still pretty cool :3

  • Do it

  • i play cello not flute but it was so on key and it was amazing. i loved it

  • potente

  • Muito Legal ! :DD

  • hi nina ,

i was just looking your playing and i must say u are a great musician .

i'm a composer and flute is one of the instrumenst that i really like to write for , so my question is :

do u play newmusic ( modern music ) too ?

it would be great if i could ask u some questions :)

    kind regards,

    ana

  • i sooo wish i could play my flute that well!

  • Great charisma. Not only do your emotions come out through your music, but also from your eyes.

  • you astound me:)

  • would you please post a close up Canon in D lesson ---------i play by ear and sight

  • You make my heart to fly far away in places of heavely peace. Bravo

  • I LOVE IT!!

  • totally awesome!

  • Oh my god! o_o I looove it!!

But it's sad at the same time.. at my school, we can borrow some instruments for like a day or two but... I borrowed one, and it's brokeeeen. DX Since I can't play flute for a couple of days, I'll watch your videos. :D

  • Congrats with the YTSO. I just watched the concert videos. I knew it was gonna be good, but the orchestra definitely exceeded my expectations. Great Job!

  • ninaperLOVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • AWESOME!!!

  • sounds like pretendor by foo fighters in the beggining

  • megathealthy: It is!

  • Oh hahahhahahaha silly me...it is described right there..wow...

  • Que geniaaaa!!!! fabulosooooo!!! me EN-CAN-TO!!!

  • Es fabulosoooooo!!! genial!!! me EN-CAN-TO!!

  • Wow.

    This was amazing girl.

    I'mma flutist.

    It's a passion of mine.

    =]

  • Who wouldn't give that a 5?? Awesome job!

  • can you show me the URL for thAT PIECE?

  • nobody can get anyone else to plug back to the flute. its either there or not.

Anyway, cool performance. Great expression. the flute takes alot to play. Keep up your practice.

  • Exactly. There are no such thing as music teachers. If you dont have that burning desire it will NEVER work on any instrument. You must teach and motivate yourself. All others can do is provide you with extra information not motivation.

  • Precisely. I love my flutes. Been learning music since toddler hood. The flute is my most favorite instrument. Though I do love guitar and piano too and the drums. But the flute is just so magical to me. Nina you are terrific my dear. Just spendid! Bravo.

  • ooo tat roked!!! i play flute, and i am first chair, and i was wonderin if yew could play sicilinia and giga by hendal i bet yew could murder tat song!

  • This was amazing..... i play flute and am currently first chair in my band, and i say that was amazing.... great job

  • woah!! Look at her face from :28 to the end! Looks like a fierce cat playing the flute! Good job.

  • I know I am going to get shat on for this, but I think you overdo the vibrato sometimes. But I play clarinet, so what do I know?

  • lol i play clarinet too, but i think she did well. i know where ur comin from tho =] lol

  • Very fine performance.

  • Way cool. I cannot wait to get my daughter plugged into what you are doing. I think you might inspire her to get plugged back into flute. I know she loves it. Being a new mom and working doesn't help, but I would love to see her do it for herself and to expose her little boy ~ 3.5 months til 3yrs old. Awesome, gb

  • what type of flute brand is that?

  • curleQ94: it is a Sankyo flute

  • really cool i play flute too

  • Approved.

  • My god! I simply cannot stop watching this video!

    What are this tempos!!

    Those articulations! Tkt kttk tT

  • wtf!!! My gooooodnes! Veeery nice!

That waas completely diferent from your other videos, and completely awesome!

What does it mean "My grammy moment audition"?

    Could you answer here?

  • that is amazing, do you just play for fun?

  • dude shes pro. shes been for like 27 years or something

  • your playing has such a clear sound! i've been playing the flute for 6 years and it still "fuzzes" once in a while. it might be time for a new flute though...this and all your videos are excellent. how long have you been playing the flute?

  • maybe your flute needs new pads, that makes it really hard to play

  • how do you flutter so cleaning?

  • Blazing eye,..eye of the tiger but nice sound.

  • Apart from the amazing transposition to flute, and the ridiculously brilliant performing, the eyebrow movements were like so Frank Zappa. Envy!

  • strav12:

I can honestly say this is the first time I have ever been compared to Zappa!!

  • OK - maybe its not just your eyebrow movements that you have in common with Zappa...! I'm not a musician and am musically illiterate, but it would have been intriguing to see what Frank would have done to you in his band. Perhaps you should get in touch with Steve Vai or Mike Keneally - Vai's recent live shows have used classical musicians as well as his Sound Theories album with the Metropole Orcheste - I think they would find you interesting - with Vai, try Ruta Sepetys....

  • How did the audition turn out? Did you win the contest? I think you did an excellent job!!

  • que melodia mas lindaaaa!!! 5*

  • bellisimo!!! gracias..5*****

  • Gracias amigo por compartir tu video. Le dejo 5. Besitos

  • awesome !!!!!!!

  • Beautiful! Your flutter tounging was so amazing!

  • I agree with Ashalee1006, The way she's holding the fulte is considered bed posture

  • Sadly not all of us have really long arms and fingers that facilitate holding the flute at that wonderful horizontal position. I think the point to note and why so many teacher preach the horizontal flute is the relationship between the lips and the flute. Yes her flute is at an angle, but her head is tilted to match the flute. So many students tilt the flute while keeping their head straight up and thus destroying their embouchure and air direction. It is the eyes that make this video!

  • Her "bed posture" seems to get the job done. Unfortunately not everyone fits into your ideal mold of "perfect posture."

  • I've wanted to learn to play the flute since I was 8. I am 32 and I just purchased 0an Emerson Silver EF6BP. Is this a good flute? I have no idea. I've been watching a lot of Nina's lessons. I can not wait until I conquer it.

  • godsgiftoflove75: The emerson flute you bought should be just fine for a beginner instrument. I played an Emerson step-up (all silver) flute in high school. Good luck!

  • That flutter tounge scared me! so unexpected =)

  • no disrespect to ashalee1006 but do you know who you're talking to! nina perlove!!!!! man....she's amazing!!!

  • hi im also a flute player and i was watching your video its amazing but i think you would benefit if you held your flute a bit more horizontal as the way you are currently standing you are squashing one of your lungs i had the same problem and i found my playing improved when i held the flute straight!

    carry on the good work!

    ashlee! xxx

  • no offence but...

even if her flute isn't in the"uniform" position, does she sound like crap? NO! This exellent flautist plays brilliantly flute straight or not!

  • Sitting straight up is consider marching band and bad for you back..stress' it out.

Sitting comfortably not too slouchy is artistic.

You arm should be out far enough where a football can fit [teacher actually tested us]

    Slouching is butter churning. :]

i play the same way she does.

    && Im first chair..

What ever works for you may not work for others.

as long as the flute is horizantel to you lips your good and ready.

    Ciao.

  • I love your stile!!!!

  • You love your flute, don't you? At least I love your music!

  • Wow that was amazing. I could feel your enthusiasm when you played that...and I absolutely loved the fluter tongue in that!!!! You should make a video on how to do that flutter tongue cause it's awesome! I've been working on it but I can't go nearly as fast as you can...i'm still a beginner too....almost two years under my belt xP Great job btw.

  • I think you are deeply in love with flute!

  • flutist kick ass...just because we are awesome like that...

  • Fantastic flute player, give me more!

  • u go gurl! u tore it up on that flute! i used to play the oboe, but i'm all percussion now!

  • Ron Burgundy would be proud. But seriously..can't believe this didn't make the cut. :(

  • nice playing!

  • I never knew there were so many awesome musicians that never made the cut. What a shame. The competition was tough. I think this was great.

  • nicely done! ...she remembers me to Diva Plavalaguna, the blue opera singer from The Fifth Element...

  • Nicely done, I like it a lot. But you have a great tone, won't it be better if you hold the flute up all the time?

  • whoa!!

  • You are so cool :)

  • *Mine Is*

  • Rats222: How do you have a purple flute? What is it made of?

    -Nina

  • My mom got it on the internet and it is pait stuff!!!!!!!! If I ever make a video soon I will Take a pic of it and put it on youtube If you watch

  • It is similar to the laquer coat that is on some saxophones out there. You can buy them on eBay and amazon, but you have to be careful to buy a well-made instrument. Some are not too good. I have a blue Cecilio alto sax and it is not bad quality. I think that they make flutes also.

  • The best I have seen!!!!! You rock I stink at Flute but minis purple!!!!!!!!!!

  • nice fluttertongue =]

  • wow, your fantastic!

love it, makes me miss playing the flute!

  • i like that you also expressed it in your eyes and you body movement- nice trill too!

  • I enjoy watching you play :-))) A Beautiful Woman Playing Beautiful Music, Complimenting each other.

  • Wow, I never thought I'd like this (considering I haven't even heard of this song before), but it was pretty cool I must say!

  • ahh, that was excellent also. ^^ nice innovation

  • wow that is really good,i love they way u exspress urself with ur body posture!!looks great keep it up!!

  • brilliant!

  • ZO, MY GOD!

  • I really like the sound you make. I also enjoy your playing as well. However, I would like to know your opinion on body movements while playing. I do not suggest that flutists should stand still while playing. Excessive body movements can be intrusive while the audiences are trying to listen to music. If my recollection is correct, Trevor Wye once prove that there body movements do not necessarily enhance one's musicality. Sometimes it interrupts the air flow. Any input?

  • I been to Mr.Wye's masterclass,he told us what you said, but I think his non-movement theory works only with beginners. Because once you moved to the next level, your airflow is very stable no matter how you move your body; btw you need to constantly change your airstream angles to adjust the intonation and adjust your lips anyways. Many people can't express themselves when they are stiff(me also,I like to swing).

  • Professor Nina did not move much comparing to many professional flutists in the US, take a look at violinists, their bodies move A LOT more, do their movements affect their bowing? no! do their movements enhance their musicality?

  • one last word, Emmanual Pahud moves, swings, dances like crazy when he was in front of me in a masterclass, making me dizzy, but he is so great playing the flute!

  • qaundo riuscirò anche io a suonare così ??

  • ma quando riuscirò pure io a suonare come te ???

  • that was soo cool.

  • This is so great! I wish I could play like that, though when I'm older I am hoping to become a woodwind and strings teacher so maybe with a lot of practice I will be almost at your level!

Thanks for posting this its great!

  • I am impressed with how well you handle all the different styles of flute playing. You seem very free during your performances! I wish that I was such a relaxed and versatile player as you.

  • so beautiful

  • Absolutely brilliant!

  • so beautiful

  • How can they not choose you? Looking forward to seeing you in the Grammys!

  • Thats was awesome and it sounds alot like the pretnder!!! it was so amazing!! u absolutely are the BEST FLUTE PLAYER EVER!!

  • hahahahaha! Rock that flute girl! Concerning the open hole debate I am not sure if Im a "purist" or just plain stubborn but I have preferred sticking to a closed hole flute just like I have never gone above a four string bass guitar....I guess it's just me.

  • that was awesome!!!! good luck to u!!! hope u get a seat!!!!

  • Nina, gotta tell ya, this rocks!! :) Love ya!

  • wow

  • Me recuerdas a Youeen Le Berre, de Gwendal. ¡Un vídeo muy bueno!

  • Wow, Nina, I love it.

    Thanks for this Video. Amazing...

    I'm waiting for next.

    best regards!

  • That sounded really good. Certainly something different.

  • Amazing job, I love the clarity and the triple [double?] toungeing was amazing. Quick question, is there a major difference between the regular Concert C flute and the open-holed flute you were playing?

  • Yes, the sound quality is different, better :p. BUt its sooo hard to start out with every hole open. You never noticed how much ur fingers cover the flute :p

  • I personally disagree with the theory that open holes somehow affect the timbre or tone of the flute. I've played closed hole flutes that sounded better than open holed. It's all in the headjoint. The Headjoint is the first thing your air hits, the first thing that resonates and is responsible for well over 50% of the flutes sound. Thats the opinion I've developed through experience.

  • HomerRedHead89:

My flute is still a "regular" concert C flute, it just has open holes. Most beginner flutes have the holes closed so it is easier to learn in the beginning. Does it make a sound difference? This is a subject of debate!

  • Well done! La mente deve spaziare. La musica non ha barriere mentali

  • That was awesome. A for Ownage :D

  • That was great!

  • fantastic playing

  • nicely done and keep up the fantastic playing

  • wow that was really amazing!!

  • Fantastic, I loved it.

  • AMAZING ! ! ! nina u and james galway in my opinion r tha best

  • I LOVE IT, It's always sooo cool when you hear a 'rock' song played on such a commonly 'classical' instrument!

I would love to see you on the Grammies, thanks for E-mailing me and sharing your music with us!

    -Steven

  • Great:)

  • hey, you start rocking...! Sounds good, verry cool in your grammy outfit!

  • yeah, shocking, she starts rocking, very cool, isn't it?

  • what's Grammy moment? very good playing. Also, do you think you could do a guide to flutter tonging. I have never been taught.

  • no doubt! no matter what you're playing.. you always sounds great.. really love your sound..

could you recommend me some sounding exercises or something like that!?
