two of the best episodes of the series since 05 have been the empty child and the doctor dances. but i hink the best one from the original series was remembrance of the daleks or mibby the deadly assassin
I can't wait for Chuck to review Army of Ghost & Doomsday, the latter was the first episode of Doc Who I'd seen in years. The last episode I saw was, oddly enough, An Unearthly Child, the very first episode of the series. In my opinion I think that Doomsday is the best of Ten's run.
'It's faithful to the original series but adds interesting modern twists to it, winning over millions of new fans!' 'It's derivative fanfiction on steroids that bores most fans of the older series!'
'Doctor Who since '05 has never been so popular and successful in decades!' 'RTD and/or Moffat are hack sellouts who have thrown Doctor Who into a creative Dark Age!'
'There's classic episodes like "Blink"!' 'And awful dreck like "The Unicorn and the Wasp"!'
I think this is *awesome*. After the Dominion War Month, it's time for a Doctor Who Month. Heck, even the initials-DW-are the same......this was *meant* to be ;-).
I dont likehe 'new' whovian franchise. Russell t davies has turned dr who into a childrens program with unimaginative and lazy writing. When i have watched it i feel as though i am being hit over the head each week by the plot arcs. There is no subtlety antwhere in the series (dont get me started on the sonic screwdriver) and the villains now look like giant toys. That said i am looking forward to Chuck's review.
@MSP2K1 I'm sorry but I must ask about the sonic screwdriver. What don't you think about it? It can't be the multitude of functions it has, because that's been the case since the Jon Pertwee era (and maybe even a few Patrick Troughton episodes).
Just before the month starts, can I ask you for your thoughts on changing Rassilon from the highly respected, highly wise founder of Time Lord society to a rambling crazy man who wants to live forever for The End Of Time? Maybe I'm missing something, because I haven't heard the BFA audio books with Rassilon in, mainly because I need to find them, but as far as I remember, Rassilon Medusa'd Borusa because he wanted immortality (that's the simplified version at least, I've run out of characters).
@willmandude Rassilon making his tower a deathtrap was still pretty bastardly of him and the Time Lords from virtually the start presented themselves as assholes in "The War Games". I'm looking forward to this month; the only episodes I genuinely found awful are "Daleks in Manhattan" and "Evolution of the Daleks" - the rest veer from decent to classic.
@willmandude Rassilon only once really became as deranged as Davros ('I will NOT DIE!!!') the rest of the time he came across more of an amoral, somewhat pompous badass and Timothy Dalton was an interesting casting choice.
@TedShatner10 Odd, I didn't mind those two episodes. Oh sure they're not up to the same standard as Eleventh Hour or The Doctor's Wife, but they were still pretty good. It was Vincent & the Doctor I didn't like so much.
@TheMarcHicks Nash from the That Guy With Glasses website tore that Dalek two parter (that included pigs) a new one and I get the feeling that Chuck will too, but hey, different strokes for different folks and Who fandom seems very fractured anyway.
@TedShatner10 Well I certainly never said it was a *great* episode, & not even the best of the season-but it certainly wasn't the worst either ;-)-I think that prize goes to The Lazarus Project (Title?) & the first part of the 3-part season-ender.
@TedShatner10 Best episodes of S3, IMHO, were "Blink" followed close behind by "42"-the Dalek 2-parter was somewhere around the middle, though the 2nd episode was of poorer quality than the first ;-).
Please keep your complaints to yourself Trolls - the rest of us will grab a coke, sit in front of our monitors and smile that we're getting double the Chuck.
@clearspira Remember when the word troll actually meant something and wasn't just some empty insult thrown at every even slightly dissenting opinion? Good times.
I'm looking forward to this! sfdebris got me into dr. who in the first place (thanks btw) so i'm curious how he reviews some of the episodes in question. It will be awesome either way!
I wasn't a Dr Who fan till Stargate Universe ended. Then I was looking for something interesting to watch and found Dr Matt Smith. I quickly ran out and got Dr Christopher Eccleston's series and loved that too. Dabbled in a bit of Tennant, but Smith is my first doctor. and Eccleston is occasionally my fav. Anyway, February is my birthday and Doctor Who reviews by chuck will be a good present.
You've already reviewed my favorite Second Doctor episode and my favorite Ninth Doctor episode (and the "Dalek" review is what convinced me to start watching this show in the first place.) Now I see my favorite Tenth Doctor episode and my favorite Eleventh Doctor episode in there--This is so exciting!
The girl in the fireplace. Totally underrated episode. He just shook that off by the next adventure? No way man. Clockwork robots, a ship with different parts of a woman's life in every room? Genius. Any episode that deserves its own themetune also deserves the upmost respect.
It should have been pompadour that 10 visited during his final hour, not that family of blood chick. Frankly I wouldn't object to them bringing her back in for another one off, this time with Smith.
@TheFounderUtopia I wept for both "The Girl in the Fireplace" and "Vincent and The Doctor." And you're right, the musical theme from "Girl" was heartbreakingly beautiful. And Reinette's quote, "One may tolerate a world of demons for the sake of an angel." Or when she says to the Doctor, "... and this is my lover, the King of France," to which the Doctor replies, "Oh, yeah? Well, I'm the Lord of Time!" I was disappointed it was just a one-off episode.
@cnollet1 While it is unquestionably a great episode, the ending of girl in the fireplace was somewhat spoiled because I found myself yelling at the TV. First it was "Your being an idiot! Take her with you. You know that the ship jumps ahead in time so why are you going BACK without her for even a second?" and then I found myself screaming even more loudly "WHY ARE YOU CRYING? YOU HAVE A TIME MACHINE! JUST USE IT AND VISIT HER BEFORE SHE DIES, YOU DUMBASS!"
I was just watching the Hartnell reviews and said "Huh. We haven't seen Doctor Who in a while..." Go figure. When I first heard Chuck was doing Doctor Who, I thought we'd be swamped with requests for New Series episodes, but I guess it took a little while to get there.
This looks like an diverse cross section of episodes, so I'm looking forward to February in ways I haven't before (at least now I can welcome being snowed in if I can look forward to this as entertainment!)
"End of Time". Woof. I consider that thing to be a mess when it comes to plotting, I keep meaning to write and Agony Booth style lengthy break down to illustrate all the issues I have with it, but for whatever reason I can never find the time to sit down and write it. For no one to read... Maybe that is why.
@DimmedDiamond Rest assured that I never forget number one. Ever.
If anyone is wondering, these are all requests, so since (most) gelled together to give us a look at the three modern Doctors, and it's about time for my twice a year mega Doctor Who look (Sep for Cybermen, March for Lost In Time) so it seemed like a good way to approach it.
And let me reiterate two points: The normal Saturday reviews are not affected by any other themes. And, I AM doing Stargate now. :-)
@sfdebris I'm so excited that you're gonna do Stargate, and just in case you don't come across it (because it's the shit and really obscure) there was a short-lived cartoon series called Stargate Infinity, it might be good for a few jokes, maybe if you do an episode of Atlantis or Universe you could open with: "After fan demand I've decided to look into the most successful and awesome spin-off series. You know which I mean, it was highly praised and well-loved: Stargate Infinity... jk"
In the future could there be a classic Dr. Who month involving classic stories like 'Caves of Androzani', 'Pyramids of Mars', 'Genesis of the Daleks' etc.? Maybe a Dr. Who month of stories by doctor?
@KrzyCanuck Good idea. I'd personally love to see him to a "Classic Dalek Month"-maybe starting with Genesis & moving forward to Destiny of the Daleks-because you can see the seeds of the Time War in many of those episodes.
OH MY GOD I AM THE INCARNATION OF EXCITEMENT. You are reviewing my fave new who ep. And a lot of excellent (and two really terrible, and some debateable ones) yesssssss THE PERFECT MIX AAAAAAA
Awesome. Looks like you've got a good over view of the new series. From the heights of Eccleston and Smith to the lows of Tennant. (End of Time, urgh.)
@butchdeadlift10 If you check the FAQ to the left side of Chuck's YouTube page, question 7 says that he is not going to review Stargate because he is not familiar with it and it is too massive of a show for him to absorb in a timely manner.
Oh End of time. Kinda a difficult one to tackle. Interesting to see how you do that one,it built up the hype for the swan song, but personally it wasn't the best of send offs you could have given the character.
I'm excited about Doctor Who! I'm a serious Star Trek fan, and I came on here to watch Voyager reviews initially a two years ago, but I appreciate it when you review other sci fi works as well. After all, guys, his name is S[ci]F[i]debris, not S[tar]T[rek]debris!
Why is everyone complaining? Chuck owes us NOTHING. He can do whatever he damn well feels like.
Personally, I've seen a few episodes of Dr. Who and absolutely loved it, but I never picked up the series for the same reason Chuck never picked up Farscape. It'd take too long to familiarize myself with the lore.
@doctorwhoknows1 I disagree. Online content is all done for the creator's enjoyment. Chuck could quit tomorrow, close his Sfdebris account, and there is nothing we could do to stop him, or convince him to come back. It's not like where is someone tries to play a sucky TV show on like Fox, where it'll change/go away if the ratings are bad, SFdebris reviews could continue even with 5 subscribers.
@doctorwhoknows1 Not at all. All I'm saying is the guy is trying his hardest to put out a product we'll all enjoy, and all you all do is bitch. Cut Chuck some slack.
@doctorwhoknows1 Oh so it's all about you is it? It's not what Chuck thinks is best for his channel, it's all you. He works his ass off for people like you? God, you make me sick. He tries his hardest and it's not your concern? GTFO!
@sfs2040 if you where watching TV and the show sucked, before you complained on-line would you stop to consider how hard the writer tried and how much your compliant would hurt his feelings?...no you wouldn't because he's not your friend and him writing the show wasn't him doing you a favour it was a product, people on-line need to stop thinking of content as a "favour" and part of that is to stop caring any where near so much about the content providers feelings
@doctorwhoknows1 But that writer is getting paid to write a show. If it weren't for the donations and the pittance he gets if he's a Youtube partner he's do this for free. c'mon man. You don't like it? Unsubscribe. Otherwise, deal with it.
@sfs2040 Thank you for pointing that out sfs. The only people Chuck "owes" are those who donate to him-& even then there's a pretty huge line-up of paid for requests. So I wish people would simply stop whinging & be thankful we have great guys like Chuck & Confused Matthew to entertain us :-).
yo, Trekkies who hate Who, guess what? If you need to troll trek that badly, Nostalgia critic is about to do a start trek month. You can also go to Linkara for his trek comic reveiws or to Red Letter Media for 2009 trek movie review.
Don't worry, YOU WILL SURVIVE THIS.
Personally, I am dancing like I.R. Baboon ww.youtube.com/watch?v=jLmf5IekxC0&feature=related
This kind of reminds me of the times Chuck reviews shows I don't like (X-Files, Babylon 5...) or the first week of this month when it was just posting trailers to already uploaded reviews or when he took a week off and then did WTF Week the next week. I didn't like the lack of new (or re-uploaded) reviews, but I did tolerate it, didn't complain, & had to wait patiently for much longer than I am used to. I guess this is no different to those who don't like Doctor Who or don't watch his reviews
@mitmfan Hmmm, I guess its just great that (a) I love Trek, Doctor Who & Babylon 5 in equal measures & (b) even the series I'm not as enamored of (like X-Files) I can still enjoy because Chuck is *hilarious*!!!
The only "bad" thing about it is that it's all new series episodes. Don't get me wrong--I enjoy the new series and all 3 new series doctors, but there are so many people who review new series episodes and very few who do classic series episodes, so I prefer them over the new series. Still, I look forward to these reviews!
@mitmfan I agree, but considering the lost in time series he has done I feel it balances out. Personaly I thought he would do a review honoring Brigadier Allistar Stewart in honor of the actor's passing this last year like he did with Sara Jane
@butchdeadlift10 I guess it's just the number of new series episodes he's doing. Maybe it's also combined with the personal fact that I didn't watch lost episodes of Doctor Who, so it feels like he has only reviewed 4 stories. Also, it might be that there are lots more classic stories than new, so it feels like he should be reviewing even more of them than new stories (and lost stories just don't seem to have the same feel to them).
@mitmfan they will grow on you quickly. Maybe you should try his set of cybermen stories. Maybe it will give you a clue as to what will happen with the cybermen in the new series
I love flagging guys as spam; HAIL DOCTOR WHO MONTH!
so, it looks like you will cover a good amount of episodes related top the time war, but not "the stolen earth" and its parts. I hope it at least gets mention between Evolution of the daleks and the end of time......the episodes called "the end of time" and not the real event
@sfdebris ahahahah don't forget you can unlock a new shout. FUS RO DA! I know sf you're probably so sick of skyrim jokes. I was too until I took an arrow to the knee. Now I have to laugh at them or they'll put one in my last good knee.
@sfdebris Traits choice not perks? Perhaps I'm thinking about wrong cRPG (I'm playing Fallout 2 now).
I know you can choose specialisation in another franchise and make full reviews with scores and same followup . (I ope it will be Doctor Who taking ST place).
Nothing in the English language can express how excited I am for this.

@sfs2040 "Chuck owes us NOTHING. He can do whatever he damn well feels like" you know if we all take that attitude on-line content will never improve
doctorwhoknows1 1 month ago
@doctorwhoknows1 I disagree. Online content is all done for the creator's enjoyment. Chuck could quit tomorrow, close his Sfdebris account, and there is nothing we could do to stop him, or convince him to come back. It's not like where is someone tries to play a sucky TV show on like Fox, where it'll change/go away if the ratings are bad, SFdebris reviews could continue even with 5 subscribers.

@sfs2040 and you want to live in a world where we all have to put up with shit entertainment and be grateful for it?
doctorwhoknows1 1 month ago
@doctorwhoknows1 Not at all. All I'm saying is the guy is trying his hardest to put out a product we'll all enjoy, and all you all do is bitch. Cut Chuck some slack.
sfs2040 1 month ago
@sfs2040
I don't care how hard your trying, it's not my concern
doctorwhoknows1 1 month ago
@doctorwhoknows1 Oh so it's all about you is it? It's not what Chuck thinks is best for his channel, it's all you. He works his ass off for people like you? God, you make me sick. He tries his hardest and it's not your concern? GTFO!
sfs2040 1 month ago
@sfs2040 if you where watching TV and the show sucked, before you complained on-line would you stop to consider how hard the writer tried and how much your compliant would hurt his feelings?...no you wouldn't because he's not your friend and him writing the show wasn't him doing you a favour it was a product, people on-line need to stop thinking of content as a "favour" and part of that is to stop caring any where near so much about the content providers feelings
doctorwhoknows1 1 month ago
@doctorwhoknows1 But that writer is getting paid to write a show. If it weren't for the donations and the pittance he gets if he's a Youtube partner he's do this for free. c'mon man. You don't like it? Unsubscribe. Otherwise, deal with it.
sfs2040 1 month ago

I guess this is no different to those who don't like Doctor Who or don't watch his reviews
mitmfan 1 month ago
@mitmfan uhm... do you bitch on the mythbusters when they test REALLY obvius myths?
when "how its made" shows you how a chair is made?
chuck reviews science fiction and only science fiction he KNOWS.
petrino 1 month ago
@petrino I'm confused by your comment. What exactly about my comment are you complaining about?
Also, for the record, I don't watch Mythbusters or How It's Made.
mitmfan 1 month ago
@mitmfan Hmmm, I guess its just great that (a) I love Trek, Doctor Who & Babylon 5 in equal measures & (b) even the series I'm not as enamored of (like X-Files) I can still enjoy because Chuck is *hilarious*!!!
TheMarcHicks 1 month ago
The only "bad" thing about it is that it's all new series episodes. Don't get me wrong--I enjoy the new series and all 3 new series doctors, but there are so many people who review new series episodes and very few who do classic series episodes, so I prefer them over the new series. Still, I look forward to these reviews!
mitmfan 1 month ago
@mitmfan I agree, but considering the lost in time series he has done I feel it balances out. Personaly I thought he would do a review honoring Brigadier Allistar Stewart in honor of the actor's passing this last year like he did with Sara Jane
butchdeadlift10 1 month ago
@butchdeadlift10 I guess it's just the number of new series episodes he's doing. Maybe it's also combined with the personal fact that I didn't watch lost episodes of Doctor Who, so it feels like he has only reviewed 4 stories. Also, it might be that there are lots more classic stories than new, so it feels like he should be reviewing even more of them than new stories (and lost stories just don't seem to have the same feel to them).
mitmfan 1 month ago
@mitmfan they will grow on you quickly. Maybe you should try his set of cybermen stories. Maybe it will give you a clue as to what will happen with the cybermen in the new series
butchdeadlift10 1 month ago
@butchdeadlift10 How do the Cybermen relate to my comment?

If nothing else, I'd like to see Genesis of the Daleks.

A lost month for me. I got interested in Chucks reviews because of Star Trek, not this.

@sfdebris ahahahah don't forget you can unlock a new shout. FUS RO DA! I know sf you're probably so sick of skyrim jokes. I was too until I took an arrow to the knee. Now I have to laugh at them or they'll put one in my last good knee.

@sfdebris I'm just waiting for the day that NTSF comes out on DVD so I can request it. They've got a robot on their staff, it counds as Sci-Fi.

@sfdebris Traits choice not perks? Perhaps I'm thinking about wrong cRPG (I'm playing Fallout 2 now).
I know you can choose specialisation in another franchise and make full reviews with scores and same followup . (I ope it will be Doctor Who taking ST place).
