Two years later and I *STILL* prefer this version. I was looking back on my comment and I still stand by it. Tim definitely works at the Setians. Matt will always be better as Set, but he's fucking perfect as humanity.
Barlow is the man Ripper makes me want to do just that Rip my ear drums out and beat them on the ground for fear i'll hear him again I'll give you the high ringing notes he's got that but in every other aspect Barlow all the way I didn't even know ripper did the original version until about a year ago good god talk about murdering a beautiful song YUCK! oh and @kromlord1 calm the fuck down and type so that we know wtf ur talking about k? thanks
whaattt thee fuccckk... people are saying they like ripper owens more than matt barlow? that's just preposterous... tim owens doesn't have anywhere near the range that barlow does, just watch iced earth alive in athens assholes
I love this song, because it goes from being sad, and somber to being so menacing. I prefer Barlow, but Ripper's best work is on Gettysburg from Burden.
ripper is the better singer hands down'' thats a first round knockout'' barlow is good'' but subpar to ripper owens''''' your high for thinking that'' now ripper might not have the stage presence to barblow cause hes a force to recon with'' but ripper way more talented
I still cannot stand this song but I have to admit, you did a good job at making this edit. If I had to hear one of the 3 versions, I'd probably choose this one. The old Iced Earth was the best, I even liked some of The Glorious Burden but anything beyond that has just not been anything I can get into. Well, Ten Thousand Strong is a good track I like but it's about the only one. Anyway, good job, would like to see more of these custom edits.
iced earth sucks so bad now. fuck this shit, i hate owens. didnt like the shit he did with priest, and really didnt like what he did with earth. i think its great matt came back makes iced earth maiden jr that much more. iced earth used to be so good, iced earth, night of the stormrider, and burnt offerings. and matt is their best singer making their best album days of purgatory.
I respect your opinion and i thought the same for the albums Earth did with Ripper but when i saw live Barlow singing his songs he gave everything and said them even better so i think although they were ripper songs he managed to make the songs his :DD again that is my opinion
Well after hearing this I can say I much prefer Ripper singing this from beginning to finish. Barlow doesn't seem to have the same passion in his voice. I really like Barlow as a singer but this album he should stay away from singing. Just my opinion.
Granted, many people agree that Ripper sings the highest parts better than Barlow, and you would have to be loony to say Ripper isn't at least good. But to say that Ripper has more emotion in his voice than Barlow is not even an opinion, it is an inaccurate statement. I loved Ripper in Priest, loved him in Iced Earth, but Barlow has the emotion that especially this album demands. Sure, Ripper has a better high scream, but Barlow overall is a better singer, and he is what made Iced Earth great.
@Wr4tHcH1Ld your fucking High' ripper has the best Power Metal Voice Ever Ever Ever' Glen tipton even says Ripper Has Greater Range' then Halford ever had' Barlow's a Fag'' nop power'' he's not a Real Singer'' mono Tone Red Headed Faggot''weak no power'' and thje sound' of the Voice' is like hi nose is Plugged' Ripper is king' Barlow Got Fired for Glorious cause he sucked Cock' Ripper Got Fired Cause' John Wasent Getting Attention' iced earth holds the record' for fired members'' 19 of them'
Jon has said that he intends to have Matt go back and record part 1 so that there is continuity. I've thought that it would be nice to have Ripper record part 2 and Matt record part 1 and release it all as a big boxed set.
However, if we could have duets like what you have here, I'd be even happier!
well if matt re-records part one it will just take some editing tools for someone to combine all the songs into duets.....just like it happened with this one.
This is great..thanks for posting.I think it would be perfect if synced with the clips from The Crow like the one video of The Clouding that is posted on here..Just a metal babes opinion.
Originally, I would have done it in reverse with Tim as the humans and Matt as the Setians (bias? Tim is the new one, like the humans to Earth) but this was brilliant. Matt is awesome at capturing that lost feeling Humanity must have suffered after being Clouded. And Tim just sounds demonic, simultaneously angry and smug as they succeeded but didn't win yet.
I actually thought about doing it that way, but Tim does sound more daemonic then Barlow (at least in this song) in my opinion at least But i had Ripper come in at the end because i'm a little biased too, but it came out alright and i makes sense to me.
Hey I wonder what would make a good epic Iced Earth concept album? Send me a message giving me your thoughts on what it would be. I have ideas of my own. Now, if only the Guitar Hero and Rock band games offered vocal parts in the studio mode and online recording functionality. Dude just think of what we could do together!
I thin thia ia the best song in the Wicked concept and I think it is rocks because it has Varlow (who I lived his voice) but the duet...with Ripper somehow maybe with the meaning of the song and some of the soap opera stuff somehow the duet along with bullshit I read since 'Something Wicked This Way Comes" was released makes the song all the more poignant.
Perhaps, but back in the day Ripper could'nt have possibly imagined (save his widest dreams) that he'd be fronting Judas Priest, whilst i never predicted that he'd be preforming with Yngwie Malmsteen either so i can't fault me for dreaming can you?
I agree with you on that one! The duet thing would be epic! Hey just imagine if it went well enough they coud do an album like that. Wouldn't that be epic?
i wonder why John' Cant Get Along with' Anybody' cause hes Worst then Phil Anselmo' When it comes' to Bieng a' Attention Whore'' john is a faggot pussy little bitch' i think he is talented' but he spits on you and me' any givivng chance' hes the biggest dick' wannabe rock Star'' i fucked his Old back in 2002'' id Hit Him So /hard in the Chin 'it would turn into a Piece if Fucking Vapor''''''' Matt can suck my ( inch Kong Cock Too'' that Fucking Tweaker fagbitch
Now that Matt has sung CoM, I'm curious how it would have sounded like with Tim! I thought that Ripper sounded good with IE but even to I'm glad Matt's back!
I want Ripper sing CoM!!! just to get this acking feeling of my back
I was thinking of that exact thing last night. Schaffer is going to release the box set with Framing Armageddon with Matt on vocals. I was thinking he should do a four disc deal, with Matt on both and Ripper on Both... would be freaking sweet!
another thing.. this not the only song that can be togheter like this! all the framming, even.. the crucible with come what may.. is the same thing! but well, is my opinion.. i miss owens with IE, but im happy that barlow is there... strange? yeah!
Schaffer IS redoing Framing Armageddon part 1 with Barlow. It's supposed to be released sometime in dec/jan as box set (Framing/Crucible). i will be editing more Wicked I.E. songs as soon as i can get my hands on em!
well, i love both Iced Earth, with owens and Barlow, i remember listen owens with drakula and the truth, was horrible, just like ten thousand or setian masacre with barlow, my point.. if (like a lot of us think)Barlow and Owens put togheter in Iced Earth.. that was awsome!because in some songs, owens could be chorus and another, barlow... and, with this story, both couls be great!
(last comment came out wrong)happy to have been there to hear & see the clouding video. it came out great thanks for making the video for johnny that really nice of you. from your friend barbara.use mica777666ac page
My friend is a BIG Iced Earth fan, and i spent some time on a vid as a present to him. i created my version of The Clouding with Magix's Music Studio Deluxe, by converting both Barlow's and Ripper's versions into wave files and edited them together, trying to get the smoothest, most flawless transition and then after a little audio tweaking i bounced them together.
Thanks!!! i love both versions of the song and wondered what The Clouding would sound like if both Barlow, And Ripper performed together. (The song The Devil to Pay actually uses some of Barlow's original vox as back-ups for Ripper, and you can hear Ripper, augmenting Barlow's ver of The Clouding during the Setian parts) i came across your custom vid, and was inspired to give it try.
You're not that stupid, actually :P.The Longstreet and Lee talk still actually isn't Barlow. The vocals of Longstreet are sung by Jon Schaffer, but Matt can be heard clearly in other songs on the Glorious Burden. The song Attila is probably the most noticeable where he provides the vocals for the Romans standing up against the army of Attila the Hun. You can clearly hear Matt in those parts!

This rendition pierces and strikes to core exactly what Iced Earth is.
