  • hey its just rock n roll man, chill

  • A registered Republican, Guthrie endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the 2008 Republican Party nomination. We all know Ron Paul is a strong fighter for the Tea Party movement, a conservative movement and the most noted national figures include Republican politicians such as Rand Paul and Sarah Palin, So far for a socialist protest singer singing about bringing in a couple of ki's (kilo's marihuana) ah well, ppl change, but plz don't idealise this man.

  • love the stories

  • He tells this exact story word for word every single time that he plays this song. And he has done it for 30 years.

  • They never told me about no hole!

  • I listen to Alice's Restaurant every Thanksgiving!

  • 3 people didn't get any champaign

  • I find that more people who sing this song together, make it sound better.

  • I saw him at Wolftrap in like '85 or '86 (maybe '87)

  • For another thanks giving dinner that couldn't be beat

  • times was diffrerent back then! I MOVED the molecules of wood and walked onstage! I Think....

  • Am I the only who thinks he looks and even "feels" exactly like Adam Sandler in this vid?

    hahah, Arlo's the best

  • @DarwinAwardsInc i feel the same way when i take a leak...

  • Arlo for Presedent

  • Still the best! Go Arlo!

  • Arlo is the best person EVER!

  • Visited Stockbridge for the first time ever this summer (2010).

Alice's restaurant is now a "Formerly Alice's" tuckaway you'd never guess

what was there no no room for 147 cases of Stockbridge Pop.

Anyway it was a nice place to visit, thank god they have a sense of humor

Because last night Abe Lincoln walked in the restuarant and claimed he played Woodstock too.

And Teddy Roosevelt stopped him cold. Said he was mistaken.

  • I wanna see him live before I die

  • Arlo told this story almost verbatim at his gig in Holmfirth, (W Yorks, UK), last night.

  • i always love listening to his stories.

god damn it,why did i have to be born in this shitty generation...

  • I thought Arlo was from New York? What's with the accent?

  • Arlo is so wonderful. Alice's Restaurant is the soundtrack to my senior year in high school, a few months before Woodstock. All of us from that generation know all of the words.

  • DIDNT HE PLAY ON EIGHT IS ENOUGH?? LOL

  • Is he talking about the Celebrity in PHX AZ?

  • @oldwarhorse1865 no man, he's talking about woodstock in 1969 !!

  • great energy - like this version a lot.

  • wonderful! i love the stage story :)

  • Kick $%^! Thanks for posting. I saw arlo on this tour - in Bloomington, IN on campus at IU. I was going to Purdue -

We had to go down to Bloomington so see guys like Arlo and Peter Gabriel (on the Lay Your Hands On Me tour).

Trivia question: who played bass with Peter Gabriel on the Lay Your Hands On Me tour?

Anyway at PU we only got bands like the Pretenders, Blue Oyster Cult and Jimmy Paige solo...

  • I've heard him tell his Woodstock story live. Arlo is amazing. <3

  • I actually LOVE this version. Way better than the Woodtock version, in my opinion.

  • who's the guy in the telecaster?? sounds cool

  • i love guthrie, this verison im not wild about to much back ground noise, but none the less still groovin to it

  • no sandler resemblence

  • To all the cats that think Arlo looks like Adam Sandler, you gotta realize they're both jewish, from Brooklyn, NY.

  • urgh this version makes my ears hurt.. what has he become????

  • The best thing to do on Thanksgiving is watch Arlo video's on You Tube before the turkey comes out of the oven.

  • @emc054

    torfurky, please!

love your fellow earthlings, don't eat them!

  • This song always reminds of college, smoking a couple of ?. That was about 1974. Love this man and his Dad.

  • This song reminds me of earlier tonight. That was about 2009. :)

  • Anyone else think Arlo looks like Adam Sandler

  • Arlo is the man, Anyone else see the Adam Sandler resemblence?

  • nutsack666

HE was at fuckin woodstock, obviously he told the story alot. Im only 23 but i was raised on this music

  • I saw Arlo in the late 90s in Ashland Kentucky - what an entertainer - awesome show.

  • Arlo is the MAN!

  • Tight, rocking version, and he manages to keep it interesting and fresh...hard to do with a song you've sung for two or three decades!

  • he always tells this story

  • KICK ASS!!!!!! I've never heard this version!!!!!!

  • Something about Arlo's reminiscing is so...hauntingly sad. Reminiscent about an era which will never again be, no matter how much we wish it were so. A place where lounging around in the fields and reconnecting with nature, doing something as simple as making daisy chains to put into hair, or to experience the sights and sounds of a lost era, such as those which were experienced in the 60's, specifically Woodstock.

  • Was it the drugs that made people do that? Many of those hippies are all done with it and you would never know they did it if they did not say. I still cannot see how the 60's went from clean-cut Leave it to Beaver, to wearing wild clothes and drug use and anti-government.

  • Not sad. Us. =)

  • with all do respect, and with all do love, my friend, what you've said is load of lazy shit. we can do anything we want. In words of Sly and the family stone: we must take it HIGHER than them!!! we're just lazy, that's all. times have gotten more complicated, we must get more imaginative now. "be the change we wanna be". from within. that's how it started back then. from matters small. from brave individuals.

  • dont touch my bags if you please

  • hes always talking about woodstock. every one of his performances he just cant help but to talk about it

  • hmmm

I've seen him maybe half a dozen times in the last eight years and he never brought it up

guess I went to the wrong shows :)

  • you went to the only 6 times he never said anything about it. ;) Anyways Ive never seen him, Im not a big fan but i like a couple of songs. It seems like every performance on youtube he brought it up.

  • Arlo you were so hot in 69 talking about the new york cith fair way. what happened I love that young innocent man back then, but u are still hot!!!

  • Just discovered Arlo by attending his live performance last night. He is a mindnumbingly talented entertainer.

  • @lildoozcoop good company.

    take care

  • Arlo! with drugs in his bags, really! I've never heard such insulence:)

  • He looks like a young Billy Connolly here, maybe that's why he's so funny...

  • Upload every version you have! All are welcome! GREAT song!!!

  • C'est vrai qu'il parle longtemps ...et après il chante à 200 à l'heure !!!

En tout cas, il a un pris un coup de vieux, Arlo, entre 69 et 84 !

    Belle chanson cependant.

  • Talent and skill are only a part of being an engaging performer.

  • merveilleuse chanson, merci

  • the song isn't about Woodstock...but he sang it at Woodstock. Arlo recorded the song long before Aug 15, 1969.

  • The story he tells before the song is about Woodstock and his classic, infamous, "Lotta' freaks!" comment.

Always a highlight for me on the album.

  • correct...this concert was long after Woodstock. He played this tune at Woodstock...which he wrote long before Woodstock. The original tune was written long before the concert. It is not "about" Woodstock...it's about custom agents at an LA airport going through his bags...coming in from London....from over the boarder.

  • not from over the border... over the "pole"

  • ya cuz hes got drugs in his bags!

  • The story Arlo is telling before he starts playing is about his Woodstock experience.

  • thank you Capt. Obvious

  • Great band. I'd like to know the guitar player's name. Awesome.

  • that is some awesome guitar solos I must say. both of'em. and yeah, the song rocks too

  • I thought I had watched all your videos but somehow I must have missed this one. I LOVEEEE the woodstock story.

  • What a great story teller. Ever hear his Santa

story? I would love to hear that one again. He is one of the few performers that I took the time to meet after the show..way cool fellow

  • lol arlo...great story!

  • i love him!

  • Don't touch my bags if you please Mr. Customs Man, I love this song! It reminds me of the movie Blow with Johnny Depp, even though this song was made many years before!

  • This song just oozes cool. Nothing like it from today's "artists", no way no how.

  • man!he must have had fun at woodstock!

  • That is Arlo Guthrie? He doesn't look like himself!

  • my god this is the best version of this song ive ever heard such a great rockin guitar solo

  • I'm totally floored by this...this version kicks some serious ass! The band is rockin', and Arlo sounds better than ever. This is the kind of stuff they should play on the radio.

  • arlo the king

  • I find myself listening that story again and again. That is just so hilarious. Arlo is a great songwriter but he is also one of the best stand up comedians (I've ever seen in my life, heh :P).

  • That's probably the most excellent story I ever heard.

  • dude that guy should have been comedian.. just amazing ^^

  • he's a natural stand-up this guy!

  • sweet great vid

  • Hilarious!

  • This is a really hot version--thanks a heap!

  • Saw Arlo in 2006, best concert I've ever been to.

  • great, simply great; thanks, Ilfrance

  • LoL, You just upload however many you find. We are thrilled to hear it each and every time!

  • I agree
