A registered Republican, Guthrie endorsed Texas Congressman Ron Paul for the 2008 Republican Party nomination. We all know Ron Paul is a strong fighter for the Tea Party movement, a conservative movement and the most noted national figures include Republican politicians such as Rand Paul and Sarah Palin, So far for a socialist protest singer singing about bringing in a couple of ki's (kilo's marihuana) ah well, ppl change, but plz don't idealise this man.
Whats ironic is, Our GOVERNMENT FORCES DEMOCRACY ON OTHNATIONS AGAINST THEIR WILL... ....YET IN OUR OWN COUNTRY WE ARE NOT ALLOWED TO EXERCISE OUR "DEMOCRATIC RIGHTS".......HOW TRULY SAD OUR America HAS BECOME..form the ideals from which it was ORIGINALLY founded upon..... When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. When the government fears the people, there is liberty.
Arlo is so wonderful. Alice's Restaurant is the soundtrack to my senior year in high school, a few months before Woodstock. All of us from that generation know all of the words.
Something about Arlo's reminiscing is so...hauntingly sad. Reminiscent about an era which will never again be, no matter how much we wish it were so. A place where lounging around in the fields and reconnecting with nature, doing something as simple as making daisy chains to put into hair, or to experience the sights and sounds of a lost era, such as those which were experienced in the 60's, specifically Woodstock.
Was it the drugs that made people do that? Many of those hippies are all done with it and you would never know they did it if they did not say. I still cannot see how the 60's went from clean-cut Leave it to Beaver, to wearing wild clothes and drug use and anti-government.
with all do respect, and with all do love, my friend, what you've said is load of lazy shit. we can do anything we want. In words of Sly and the family stone: we must take it HIGHER than them!!! we're just lazy, that's all. times have gotten more complicated, we must get more imaginative now. "be the change we wanna be". from within. that's how it started back then. from matters small. from brave individuals.
you went to the only 6 times he never said anything about it. ;) Anyways Ive never seen him, Im not a big fan but i like a couple of songs. It seems like every performance on youtube he brought it up.
correct...this concert was long after Woodstock. He played this tune at Woodstock...which he wrote long before Woodstock. The original tune was written long before the concert. It is not "about" Woodstock...it's about custom agents at an LA airport going through his bags...coming in from London....from over the boarder.
Don't touch my bags if you please Mr. Customs Man, I love this song! It reminds me of the movie Blow with Johnny Depp, even though this song was made many years before!
I'm totally floored by this...this version kicks some serious ass! The band is rockin', and Arlo sounds better than ever. This is the kind of stuff they should play on the radio.
I find myself listening that story again and again. That is just so hilarious. Arlo is a great songwriter but he is also one of the best stand up comedians (I've ever seen in my life, heh :P).
hey its just rock n roll man, chill

Visited Stockbridge for the first time ever this summer (2010).
Alice's restaurant is now a "Formerly Alice's" tuckaway you'd never guess
what was there no no room for 147 cases of Stockbridge Pop.
Anyway it was a nice place to visit, thank god they have a sense of humor
Because last night Abe Lincoln walked in the restuarant and claimed he played Woodstock too.
And Teddy Roosevelt stopped him cold. Said he was mistaken.

Kick $%^! Thanks for posting. I saw arlo on this tour - in Bloomington, IN on campus at IU. I was going to Purdue -
We had to go down to Bloomington so see guys like Arlo and Peter Gabriel (on the Lay Your Hands On Me tour).
Trivia question: who played bass with Peter Gabriel on the Lay Your Hands On Me tour?
Anyway at PU we only got bands like the Pretenders, Blue Oyster Cult and Jimmy Paige solo...
