Some of the last great Le Mans racing. Nowadays it's all clogged up by diesel cars, and while they are fast, they just don't sound like proper race cars, and it sort of pollutes the ever petrol happy world of Le Mans. Group-C should return!
@SlasherSlay Too bad the GT-One cars have gear box problems that let to their defeats in both '98 & '99, what a pity. And I think '99 Le Mans was one of the last exciting moments for Toyota TRD, now Toyota has lost its racing genes...
i must say that open cockpit cars should be run off the face of the earth! they have no personality! just a flat look. All Le mans cars should be coupes that use either a group c styling or the gtlm format much as the peugot does. the audis, pescarolo sport, and so on who run the open cockpit cars should be forced to redesign thier cars with a roof on them! the open cockpit cars just take something important away from the race in my opinion
I have to disagree. The open top prototypes have just as much personality as the closed ones. The only difference is that one has a roof and the other doesn't.
are u kidding? the open cockpit cars are wat make lemans! the audi r10 tdi, r8, arx, v12 lmr, 16 spyder, courage lc70, playstation la feliare', kremer racing, and a bunch of others. they are wat made lemans. but the closed prototypes like gt one and the peaugot 908 and cars like that are cool also
@SlasherSlay Your forgetting the Jaguar XJR-9 and XJR-12, the Porsche 917, Porsche 956 and 962, Porsche 911 GT1, Mazda 787B and more. Modern Le Mans cars will never have the charisma, speed or looks of those old wonders!
lol the bugs on the windshield of the toyota gt-one...they shoulda won '99 Le Mans if it wasnt for the crappy gearbox. but a bug at 220mph on a windshield..that could leave a dent
Best car ever built?? WTF? a car that almost kills mark webber twice and Peter Dumbreck is good? it wasnt even the fastest, it was much slower that the toyota
I might not have been paying attention, but who is the narrator? The guy seems to always have something interesting to say. Oh, and I've gotta say, that CLR exhaust note is intoxicating.
excuse me, khrisinfo, but these engines never EVER have som much hp, since they wouldnt be able make the 24h. those engines have about 600 to 660hp and depending on cylinders and displacement around 600 to 750 Nm. Those aren't F1 engines and these are scrap after 2 hours of racing (because of the high power output). I dont mean to offend you but you should get your infos straight
@MurderKun not true back in the 70s some cars were pushing thousands of horse power.. the porsche 917 twin turbo ran 1580 hp in qualifying and 1100 while racing
yes you're right but as far as i know this wasnt at lemans (which i was referring to), because as i said they wouldnt be able run for 24h (or even half). these ~1500hp were only possible for short times, eg during qualifying as you said and the 917/30 (that you mention) never went to le mans. but the modern le mans cars are heavily restricted (for good reasons) concerning power output (although/because they could do more easily!) greets ;-)
ok boy.......i dont know of any 917 that ran at LE MANS with 1000hp and ive read quite alot about it. but if you insist on it that much you must have a very good source of information?! so please tell me/us where you got that from, i would be interested.......if you cant quote anything serious though ive got to refuse to answer you anymore because i wouldnt be able to take this serious anymore....sry & thx

@Tonio31 no actually the closed cockpit cars are more aerodynamic and the open aren't as much. But more than anything id rather have a open cockpit.

Perhaps.
For the future, environment consideration of the earth.
The GT machine that this time is the fastest.
will be the last race that fought.
Reliable 911 or proto Carr of BWM overcame the last after all.
Therefore Toyota and Mercedes is not really settled in GT with with 98-98 years. The F1 is completely Mercedes.
I wanted you to fight for a fan once again in Le Mans.
