Melissa Sue Anderson and Alison Arngrim clearly hated eachother. You can see it in their eyes! Alison criticised Melissa a lot in her book. I'm looking forward to reading Melissa's book just to see what she says!
@jecka1982 That's unfortunate. And weren't Melissa Gilbert and Alison friends and got along? That's so awkward because Laura and Mary had to be sisters! You think the Melissa's got along? And I wonder if Melissa Sue felt left out if Melissa Gilbert and Alison got along.....
That's Richard Baseheart. You may remember him from Knight Rider - he appeared in the pilot episode as billionaire Wilton Knight. He is the narrator at the beginning of the show's credits.
To be fair Mr. Applewood should have said until someone fesses up who wrote the note the whole class will stay in after school writing i will not pass notes in class 100 times!
Pretty weird that he does not see Nellie standing up and putting the note on Laura's desk, but he does see that Laura has a piece of paper under her hand...
@dars2607 yea but I guess he just happened to look up and take notice at the wrong time. Maybe Laura, out of nervousness, shuffled around a little more, and Mr. Applewood heard her more easily, as opposed to Nellie, who was more sneaky.
This episode makes me so angry. They hired this Mr.Applewood to keep the older boys in line.Instead he picks on poor Laura. What in hell does this guy have against a sweet little girl.He has picked on her since they hired the bastard. When he should've punished the older boys which are the ones that are the troublemakers not Laura.
@mustwinder you're just mad b/c I speak the truth about the character Laura/Mary. I know I'm 3 months late on this, but you need to grow up yourself. Since you're the one who started with me responding negatively.
"Any assignment or test paper handed in with an erasure on it will receive a failing grade." WTF? They're not even allowed to correct their mistakes? This guy was insane.
No, Mr. Applewood. You told them to write down the rules you had just given them, not study. I loved it when he said, "...NOW!!", and the class flinches.
What the hell kind of rule is that --no erase mark on the paper or its a failing grade?what are the kids suppose to to just cross out there mistakes i guess? I wish laura would have told the teacher that seth sent the note
This is actually a much more realistic portrayal of a school teacher in the 1800's than Miss Beadle was. Hell, in Catholic schools the nuns beat the bejeezus out of the kids when they got out of line up until recent decades!
@likethepear Oh yeah I know my ma told us stories when she was with the nuns in school. She didn't have any teachers that paddled you,but there ones in the building. One time she just got her ears peirced, and she couldn't find where she was supposed to go so the teacher pulled her ear and dragged her to where she was supposed to be.After that her ear was bleeding .Gosh let's just thank the nuns aren't like that today.I wonder what my dads stories are...lol.
love miss Beadle. She's sweet, patient, and the perfect teacher for children.Mr appelwood is awful, bossy, violent, terrifying for children. He should have been jail keeper!

Mary and Laura always want to use their fist to solve problems. No one in Walnut Grove start more fights and hit people to get even then Laura and Mary. You see what she just did? She pushed Willie down and she threatened to slap Nellie in the face. I wish Nellie had pulled Mary hair out by the roots. UGH! Yeah Willie threw the eraser at Laura, but she is the one that cost the big fight in class throwing the eraser back at Willie and missed. She's not even sure Willie was the one that threw it.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@MsSarcia I agree with you. Mary and Laura do use thier fist to slove thier problems and I wished that they got introuble from it. I would actually like to see Nellie win a fight between Laura. I was Laura's fault for starting the fight and I think that she got away with a lot on this show.
@MsSarcia Ok I dont know how old you are but you are acting like a baby. And You Need TO grow The Hell UP. and this is a 13 year old talking. I know 5 year olds that act more mature than you. And If you Hate Laura and Mary so much DONT WATCH THE SHOW!!!! Because Many of us who adore Little House are Fed up with your cildish ways!
@ilovpainthorses101, so am I. Not my fault you disagree and have nothing better to do then to thumb down my comments and troll these boards trying to start a fight. I'm watching the Waltons right now, please don't disturb me unless you want to talk about LHOTP. :)
@MsSarcia ok if u know everythink what episode is the one when nels cheated on harriet oh news flash there anit one cause he never did i watched all of them and it never had nels cheating on this show so stop balling and leave mary and laura alone cause it is willie and nellies fault they did stuff to them and they reacted
@55cbyrne, the name of the episode is called "Second Spring: Nels Oleson" He cheated on Harriet, kissing another woman and Charles caught him in the act. Bet he or Charles never told Harriet. Go watch and then come back and apologize to me. It's always Laura and Mary fault, their thieves and liars. :)
@55cbyrne cool, I take it you watch Nels cheating? About the Laura and Mary part, well we're all entitled to our opinions, but I'm not lying about these two characters either. If you watch closely, you'll see that Laura tease Nellie all the time and never once does Nellie punch Laura for it. But Laura has blacking Nellie eye and bloody her nose for teasing her and that's not fair. I can pull up every episodes where they stole, ran away and lied to their parent and got away with it.
@MsSarcia your such an idiot just shut up you dislike on the nicest people on the show laura and mary are only mean to nellie because she usually starts the fight when laura and mary were new to school they didnt do anything to nellie until they saw how mean she was . your so childish and im 11 and im way more mature than u
@MsSarcia I don't know why everyone attacks your comments when it comes to the Ingalls girls. Right is right & wrong is wrong. They're are times when Mary & Laura R wrong in their actions. I have even seen Mary bully Laura. U R just speaking the truth & your comment is as valid as mine & all others'. I really do hate to see a child push, shove & hit another child especially when the child do the bullying is much larger. This is just a TV show, for the most part a lot of it is true
@AsrRwr thank you for being fair and honest. I agree with you about this show. :) All I was saying was none of these girls in this show are saints, and that the only differences between them is that Laura/Mary/Albert all got away murder (if you will?) while Nellie and Willie seem to always get punished for their actions especially by their own father Nels and Laura.
@MsSarcia You're welcome. The way some of these posters attacked you were just as bad as these children attacking other children. I do not condone Nellies' mean streak..she can be down-right evil at times. At least with Nellie, she is out in the open with her brazen actions. She can look her parents straight in the eye. Laura is
sneaky, conniving and underhanded. She twists the truth & when she gets caught, she lowers her head and rolls her eyes all around not making eye contact.
This teacher reminds me of charles' teacher Mr Watson when he was young, in the flashback in season 4. Anyway isn't it wierd that the big boys at the back should even be afraid of the teacher since they're much bigger than him
"Priorities" are the mindset of the late 20th century as an excuse of lazy minds to ignore certain things as "irrelevant." Fact is these children are being taught discipline, precision and honesty. Three qualities that are sorely lacking these days.
