The mystery of this compelling film is,....just before Indio draws his gun, you see a tear slowly forming and then falling from the corner of his eye.I have ALWAYS wondered if this was a sign that Indio had a conscience and had always regretted the rape of Mortimers sister and the murder of her new husband. The many flashbacks are a sign.Look at his face as the tear appears. He is in turmoil with his memories and knows he 's going to die. He even draws first and still gets beaten. Brilliant!
hang em high 4, a fistfull of dollars 3, for a few dollars more 2, The good the bad and the ugly, are the best films ever my favorite, I love these films, I have red dead redemption, and it reminds me of this.
@just1terry I think at this point Manco knows that the Colonel (Or 'old man') was only out for Indio's blood because of the vendetta he obviously holds thoughout the film. Also Man has just saved the Colonel's life (Now we start) and the looks that pass between then show their utter understanding and final total trust in each other at the end.
Clint asks for his gun back.I think maybe he felt a little ill at ease now, with all the reward money hanging in the balance, and with the Old Man holding the only gun.The Old Man could have done away with Clint at this point and walked away with All the money....just a thought
@just1terry Interesting thought, but my gut says probably not. Colonel Mortimer was a class act all the way through the film, and, as you can see, he gave it all to Manco in the end anyway.
@just1terry Im sure maco was always on guard (I think he still had his rifle) but he must have realized that Morimer had quit his job in the army to stop outlaws from doing the same thing that happoned to his sister and the my gun thing was probably a little joke on the selfish side of Manco, Manco is good but a bit of a bad boy as well, In the original film I think he was meant to have an affair with the married woman at the Inn, there are pics on the net
lee van cleef is my Favorite actor in the western genre hes way better then any fagot actor today back then being an actor was hard not easy now the new generation of action stars and what do we have justin timberlake in a fucking action movie i rather shoot myself in the face then watch any of the garbage Hollywood is now producing back in the 20th century they actually cared about making great movies now they're too fucking lazy and stupid to do anything
I more love Outlaw Josey Wales, but every single movie Clint plays any type of actor in, no matter what they are all good and will always be, I wished movies like this could be made today too, but no. :/ The old good time Is replaced, sad but true.
@improvisedcinema1 all three are fantastic! but i think The good bad and ugly takes it because of it's ending :) and theme tune, i just much prefer it, but i love all three, and The good the bad and the ugly is the most popular one
This is my favourite of the trilogy, too. I guess the character's and their emotional journey, developement and interaction is here, if not best, then at least best suited for my film tastes.
And of course it's just great to have Clint & Lee teamed up.
You know, it is most probably that way for me too. It's not like I'm forced to like TGTB&TU the most just because it's the longest, most epic and most recognized of the three. I've got the precious gift and privilege of my OWN opinion, just as most people have, and it says that the Clint x Cleef interactions and other aspects of FaFDm were just PURE CLASS and pure genius, so much, that they've impressed and grew on me perhaps even more, than the equally great TGTB&TU
@Turkisshh2 Well said Turk, TG,TB&TU is a wonderful movie, but there is indeed SOMETHING about FAFDM that just resonates deep inside me. FAFDM is ranked #118 on IMDB's 250 Greatest Movies of all time.....and rising - it was #122 a year or so ago.
@laurelbush Thanks for that. I know that Lean's "Lawrence of Arabia" was filmed in large part in Almeria, Spain. I didn't know that Dr. Zhivago was filmed in Spain too. The links between Lawrence and the Leone westerns are quite interesting.
I probably watch this film more than any other. Forget the movies of today that use CGI to make them look better, this beats any of them hands down. Great storyline, great acting and great music. They remake a lot of movies today, but this is one that they can not. Eastwood,Van Cleef, Volonte and Morricone are a combination that no set of actors/composers can live up to now to do this justice.
This is a western that gives you double your money's worth. You get not one but TWO men riding off alone into the sunset at the end. Well, I guess Eastwood technically had the bodies of the gang, but the point remains.
My Friend is Selling that Musical pocket Watch on ebay! type in the ebay search box The Musical Pocket Watch From "For a Few Dollars More" ...only one left!
MY FAVOURITE WESTERN ,ALL 3 ARE JUST GREAT THE MUSIC THE ACTING ,WHY THE HELL DO WE NOT HAVE THESE ACTORS ANYMORE AND THE STORY SO SIMPLISTIC !!! I AM NOT A GAY MAN !! BUT CLINT AWESOME ,FOR ME A REAL FILM STAR THE BEST LOOKING ACTOR TO EVER BE ON THE SILVER SCREEN ,SO COOL AND I THINK HE IS THAT WAY IN REAL LIFE !!!
@Powerhouse238 He was fantastic, but Clint was still better. Ok, perhaps they were equally magnificent, but Van Cleef wasn't better. Oh well, who cares, they are both brilliant actors in all what they did, it's not matter who was better in some role.
@MOVIEMANFAN Yeah, it is not his voice. Because of the diverse casting (american, italian, german and spanish actors) all three movies where shot silent and the dialog was dubbed later. I am guessing that scene was added late on the editing and they did not have Eastwood available anymore to dub it for the american version. :P
Actually yes, but the fact that Clint Eastwood plays three different roles and Lee Van Cleef plays 2 different ones, makes it kinda odd for me. I don't really care if it's a trilogy or not - everyone should own this movies. Period. :D
I love the part where Lee Van Cleef smiled and rode off into the sunset. The hero riding off into the sunset has always been cliched, but when I first watched this many years ago, I remembered thinking that in this case, it looked cool. He was finally at peace.
This movie is better than a Shakespearean play! There are so many themes of love and loss, loyalty and betrayal...look at how much the final duel means to the colonel in his search for vengeance against Indio. Look at the diabolical betrayal from Indio as he tries to turn his men against each other, fueled by his crippling insanity...this is more than just a western, it's an absolute work of art! Having Clint Eastwood giving bone-chilling glares and sly grins all movie long doesn't hurt, either!
I used to watch this as a kid with my dad after he came back from work. He would say these were the best films ever. I usually thought he was one of those "back in those days" kinda people who only glorified their generation. After seeing all the CGI, explosions every half a minute and mediocre acting compared to the expression on these guys faces, I now know what he meant after thirteen years.
Okay now I feel really stupid to my previous question as I have just watched it back and heard him say "thousand" ater every person. I have been a foolish fool.
What's nice about this ending is that it gives a lesson about life that money isn't the most important thing. For most of the film it was about the money but then when Van Cleef let's CLint have the money it shows he never was after it in the first place, he wanted to avenge the death of his sister. It leaves the young greedy Clint confused why someone would pass off so much cash because he's still young and hasn't learned the important lesson yet.
It's amazing to me that Van Cleef gave a performance like this in what was I believe his first significant movie role - all previous appearances having been bit player "third baddy from the left with no lines" parts.
@MrSwanley So true - it was his first big role. Plus, the plot of "For a Few Dollars More" essentially revolves around him. Sergio must of had great confidence in him. Hats off to LVC....!
Maybe not in theaters, but if you take Deadwood as whole, it's on par. They're very different kinds of stories, one explores myth, and the other reality, but they're both inspired, poetic, and entertaining.
best western ever i remember watching this when i was a kid i thought it was the best movie ever made most people say a fistful of dollars or the good the bad and the ugly or once upon a time in the west are the best westerns but for a few dollars more is my Favourite western movie because i have such fond memories of me and my grand pa watching it together i still watch it to this day because its not a movie its a masterpiece
@jimmycage316 I agree with you on this. My favorite of the three, with The Good, The Bad & The Ugly being second. I watched it an an early age as well and was left with a great feeling that only a movie like this can bring. Laughed my butt off when Clint says "trouble with my adding...it's alright now"...Classic
@outlawcountryman I think he played a different character... at least I like to think so. I don't like to think of them being enemies after this great ending =(
@outlawcountryman It is, but the 3 films are not connected story wise in any way - all main characters are different. The only common thread seems to be Clint acquiring his poncho in the GB&U - so the 3rd film actually had to precede the other 2 in "time".
Real, unique and revolutionary classic! Clint Eastwood, Gian Maria Volonte and Lee Van Cleef did a brilliant job. In this film you cannot find just good and bad guys which makes this film even more special. I always praise original films more but For A Few Dollars More was even better than original. Our modern so-called "blockbusters" look like crap compared with this trilogy
very good acting of all of them i seriously wouldnt be able to pulll it of if im getting suffercated with a whole load of people on me how do they do that all stuffed in the back
And like Thanatos ferrying his barge of the dead on the river Styx, the Man With No Name rides into the sunset with his wagon of corpses, but unlike the ferryman, he gets several thousand for each, instead of two pennies from a dead man's eyes.
WHAT A BEAUTIFULL SCENE, GREAT ACTORS THAT SPEAK WITH THE EYES, AND EMOTIONS, NO ESPECIAL COMPUTER EFFECTS, PURE ACTING AND THE MUSIC AT 0:09 EXPRESS THE PAIN AND SUFERING, AT THE END, THIS TWO LONE WOLF GO SEPARATE WAYS, GREAT EPIC ENDING.
@MrBoBoTom Have no fear - this amazing movie is standing the test of time: "For a Few Dollars More" is ranked #120 in IMDB's 250 greatest movies of all time.
I love these old spagetti westerns. Sergio Leone was a great artist in my opinion. Ennio Moriconne is a great composer. The cinematography and compositions are superb and the stories are wonderful.
Two BADASS. Maybe the best badasses of all movies in history.

It's amazing to me that Van Cleef gave a performance like this in what was I believe his first significant movie role - all previous appearances having been bit player "third baddy from the left with no lines" parts.
MrSwanley 11 months ago
@MrSwanley So true - it was his first big role. Plus, the plot of "For a Few Dollars More" essentially revolves around him. Sergio must of had great confidence in him. Hats off to LVC....!

Imbeciles. Manco is counting the bounty up, not the bodies!

45 years and someone still hasn't made a western half as good as any in the Dollar's Trilogy.

@GoldeneyePwner

Right. He could play both evil and good so well.

ironic that in the the final part of this trilogy blondie kills angel eyes
outlawcountryman 1 year ago
@outlawcountryman I think he played a different character... at least I like to think so. I don't like to think of them being enemies after this great ending =(
AHafan1 1 year ago

They should do a remake and call it: For a few bailouts more.

I love these old spagetti westerns. Sergio Leone was a great artist in my opinion. Ennio Moriconne is a great composer. The cinematography and compositions are superb and the stories are wonderful.
