okay im standing up for all us english people! other wise know as 'posh dumbasses' by you westerns people.you spend a day with one of us,youll see the passion and courage and bond we have with the horses.i could say much more but i cant be arsed typing.
I know this is kinda late but i have done both english, dressage, and now barrel racing. And none of the sports i have done have took as much hard work and heart it takes to be a barrel racer! And i hate how these english riders think they are soo badass because you ride english well bitch your not all that. Enlgish takes skill but when You have a 900 pound horse going full force running there heart out. when you can ride your enlgish horse like then start talkig you stuck up bitch! Thanks(:
aw god! another ding that disses english riders! go do one! when you have a 1/2 tonne of horse midflight in the air that could land on you,you wouldnt dare want to mess with us! we respect the horse,we have elegance, patients, bond, strength, love, agility, passion and everything else! you see the 'cowgirls' on here whiping their horses with the reins or booting them with their legs,i just want to scream at you all for dissing us! we arent 'cowgirls' we are equinegirls!
@HorseyBecky Umm. I never dissed english riders. i was just saying how some enlgish riders act like that. I never said all of them. And i have jumped and i know what it takes to jump and ride english. I just hate how some booth english and western act like stuck up snobs. Im Just Sayinn
I love this. I'm a hunter/jumper & my trainer also teaches western at another barn. We managed to convince her to let us try it one day.In English saddles. We replaced the barrels w/jump wings. When the owner of my barn came by my trainer said she was just having us work on circles & lead changes(some simple, some flying)...it was awesome. We only did it at a canter a few times and that was difficult(the fact that I was on a greenie probably didn't help), so I can't imagine galloping around them.
Oh my goodness! You rock at this!! I wish I was half as good as you!!! I can barely get on my horse right now without her bucking me off!! Well, I hope I can get better, maybe half as good as you!!
@equinizeyourlife I love you for that comment! I am a western rider, wanting to start english. Haha i'm gonna train my barrel bred, barrel ran mare to jump xD
Learn the barrel pattern and work on strengthening your horse. I know two ladies who have been around horses for 30-40+ years each, everyone elese who i talk to ALWAYS says something similar to this: "Learn the pattern, build up speed and endurance, and learn to move with your horse. If you do nothing but the barrels and go hardcore then you will end up having a lame horse." Best of luck!
i also barrel race and its sooo fun but sometimes ill set up a jump and do it in my barrel saddle lol but riding in a english saddle just seems to scary!!!! lol
All you english riders: You can jump all you want but I live to turn n' burn! And to everyone who's in this debute over whether Barrel racers or Jumpers have more talent the fact is: They're somewhat alike: They take hard work and dedication, you can't just jump on a horse and expect it to perform perfectly!! ;D Everyone in riding secretly (or not) respects eachother for one reason or another! : ] great video!
I know of a few English riders who run barrels in their saddles. Western or English, barrel racing is a show of how much you trust the mount you are on since one sharp turn could kill you or your friend.
@Serena152973 Are you kidding me? Obviously those riders.. are loping. Becuase true barrel racing CANNOT be done in an english saddle no matter how much balance you have. a True 1d horse will give you a run for yoour money in an english saddle
Unless you try to do cross country in western saddle then you can't say that. It is a false pretence that those events take those perticular saddle but they don't.
@Serena152973 why would i do cross country in a western saddle? your making no sense. On a TRUE barrel horse, you would fall off running in an english saddle.
Just as long as you remember to relax and not to push your horse too hard. The speed will come with time... At first, you really need to focus on your horse not shouldering the barrel and getting a clean run. :)
haha, excellent! I'm a hunter rider, and I'm sooo scared to do this. XD Western saddles intimidate me, it's just toooo much leather and the horn looks like something that will gut me. O_O But I'm not hating, I'm actually just saying that I'm impressed! I want to teach this one barrel-bred QH mare to barrel race, but I have NO idea how to do it. However, I'm an excellent english rider and I've trained a few horses to jump. Any tips? Btw, Hunter riders: don't hate! barrels are amazing!!
Hey, don't be afraid of the saddle. :) Most Western saddles are SUPER comfy (if you ever get the chance, try out a really nice roping saddle... heaven!), and they provide a little more of a bowl for your butt to sit in. The horn really doesn't get in the way at all, so you don't have to worry about that. To train to barrel race, I'd read about it and watch people who have raced before. Remember to stay relaxed and listen to your horse. If you can jump, you can do barrels, promise. :)
@maspringob i luv the cutting saddles!! i dont ride englsih or western though but i luv those cutting saddle its like bare backing but really comfy and when you canter it feels like ur flying!! i ride in a stock saddle aka fender you've probs never heard of em before but ur right bout the comfy bit!!
@aussiestockhorse97 I barrel race in a cutting saddle its awesome...i hate th closed feeling of barrel saddles i also have a cutting horse so i have two cutting saddles
@aussiestockhorse97 I barrel race in a cutting saddle its awesome...i hate th closed feeling of barrel saddles i also have a cutting horse so i have two cutting saddles
@aussiestockhorse97 I barrel race in a cutting saddle its awesome...i hate th closed feeling of barrel saddles i also have a cutting horse so i have two cutting saddles
@equinizeyourlife I know,I ride English too,and yes the horn DOES look like it will gut me too XD !! Guess what? I wonder if Western Riders are scared to jump like us:)
@HorseRider4507 I barrel race and I jumped a little when I was younger. Today I got on my friends english horse and it was hard. English and Western riding is equally the same at how hard it is but they're just harder in different ways. I think all English and Western riders deserve respect in what they do.
@equinizeyourlife try an australian saddle without the horn. not sure if their permited in competition but be a good training tool for you. a transition between the english and the western. either way have fun
@equinizeyourlife im like the opposite of you, i do barrels but i really want to try the jumping. my one barrel horse LOVES to jump but i dont no the proper ways to train him. lol
@equinizeyourlife Same concept... lots of patience, time, and no overpowering on either end. You and your horse have to learn TOGETHER. Learn the pivot points and the basics of the sport, and go from there. Start by leading him around them, then walk, then trot, then canter, then go at it full speed (take your TIME). The saddle won't gut you, but you will fall... so will your horse. It's all part of the game. Good luck!
@doggieram: I think that the English horses have speed and are agile, but in different ways than our QHs. I'm currently working with a 14.3 hand mare -- she'll probably get around barrels faster than a 17 hand Hanoverian, but the Hanoverian will most likely be a better jumper. It's just a matter of body type, and what the horses have been bred for.
Have you tried to run barrels in your jumping saddle? If you haven't, you really don't have the right to make all of these biased comments about barrel racers. You also need to take into account the speed these horses are going and how sharp the turns are. Sometimes a lack of communication causes a rider to fall off, it's not always because of a lack of balance.
@maspringob and also, those english jumping horses dont have NEAR the speed and agility of our quarter horses, they may have the stamina but not the speed. i just watched a few videos of hanoverians and drafts[besidethepoint] running barrels and they go so much slower...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
barrel racers have gut but there at the bottum talent list! you ride in the most balenced saddels and then you go around the turn and fall off! i am a jumper rider and i have so much ballence i could do that in my jumping saddel... WITH NO HANDEL!!!
@ssdrake11 look budy you are so totally some stuck up snob the way you talk. and have you ever been on barrel horse? I can see not. those horses work soooo hard and go through sooooo much training to become the best and this is the way you talk about them???? and if you ever rode on that goes that fast and turns that hard as a real barrel horse does you would be on the ground. and not all people hold on to the horn, I sure don't. and you would totally have to.
@ssdrake11 ha, its funny cause your an ass. not all barrel racers use the HORN (not a handle, sweetie) I'd like to see you get a good time in your "Jumping Saddle" going through that pattern. what you do the horse does the work for you, all you have to do is sit, you sound like a snobby bitch. hope you find a life soon, because you can't cut down barrel racers you're whole life. And its Bottom, Not bottum. gee for such a great English rider you think you'd at least know how to speak English. . .
@LaLaVo1 Ha, this is funny you motherfucking asshole. I ride horses from germany not lame quaterhorses that no one wants, you sound like the bitch here, sweetie. we ride our horses so that they feel good, not to win and yeah i have done it in a jumping saddle, its called sharp turns in jumpers. I am not mean to my animals, and i bet you are . so shut the Fuck up and stop responded to post from a year ago, Back yard hillbillie bitch!
I DO IT TOO! :) he gets relaxed and really sets himself. :) and you shouldn't care... best way to get to the top is to ignore all the negitive energy and strive to be postive:)
trust me barrel racing has been my life since i could remember. i understand how iportant good slow training is but its not worth it if your horse hates u. and its not the riding your horse needs its you. so if you dont ride him 4 a week cuz ur so busy with something like homework just spend 10 minutes grooming and talking to them they will love it and so will u not everything u do with ur horse involves rules or u on their back. learn 2 play with them 2 just sit in the field n talk to them.
a barrel horse is never "finished" you can always improve. always. and if you want have a good barrel horse and be a good barrel racer: know your horse and let your horse know u. have the strongest relationship you can have with them. no amount of riding and training will get u anywhere if you and your horse have no connection but the saddle. u cant build a house on quicksand you need a good foundation before you start training.
@BarrelRacer444 SLOW SLOW SLOW lol.. SLOW work is where its at. if you keep working on flexing, sets, pockets, keeping bent and flexed, and working slow then you'll have an amazing barrel horse. Hell I've only had my horse for maybe over 2 years, and when i got him he was a standing stud for 5 years *he's 6 lol* and a halter horse, barely every been ridin. But my trainers *who are in my videos* you can see helped me FINISH him. Yes in less than 1 year he is a FINISHED barrel horse :) ^read more^
@BarrelRacer444.. they have always told me that slower is faster. Because when you work slower the horse understands the pattern alot better because they focus on rating, flexing, bending, and listening to your feet rather than flipping out over "going fast". lol. So my tip(s) is this:
1.) Work on flexing side to side
2.) Work on hind quarter pivots keeping them on their butt and working off their butt.
3.) Work on nice slow circles not always around the barrels and working off ^readmore^
8.) When you do start increasing speed NEVER use a whip unless correcting ex: when making a practice run DON'T whip that will cause them to anticipate the turn home and knock the barrel coming out of the pocket*
9.) *When finished* Don't continuely work on the pattern *either to the right or left which ever way you run* ex: I run to the right so to mix it up and not have him get bored with doing the same thing over and over.
i see... yeah i CAN'T use spurs.. he turns and bites. plus for myself i don't see a point in using something if it's not needed! best luck to everyone!
if only all people thought about barrel racing like this. most people think its cruel, but its not. i ride a horse at my lessons and his name is Thunder he is 16 and he loves the barrels, he gets hyper when he knows when its time to go. he enjoys it. and he is in perfect condition. all sports with horses are hard. ive seen people get seriously enjurd by jumping. so all sports are equally hard!
i like this video, not so much into the music. i like country myself. but the video was pretty cool, i love watching people turn n burn! i have a barrel horse, well actually we compete in everything! saddle seat & speed seem to be our strong points. not sure how that mixes?! i do not use spurs nor a whip, i'd probably die if i did on my horse. he's a pooower house! lol
using spurs doesnt have anything to do with have a horse who is a power house.. the mare i run is a short shocky tank who can our run horses 2 hands taller than her, i use spurs just so i can get he over and up faster around the barrels.
How 'bout this one girls....who the hell acres what other people think? (The only opinion I care about is my Horse's!) Barrel racing is part of me and who I am. Like the video said, we are all made up of the best in the world...we out perform english riders and leave the rest behind. if you aint slidin you aint ridin!
Barrelprincess101 I am absolutely horrified at how you insult people.I am a barrel racer and I do not whip my horse or wear spurs I don't think its necessary to judge people on how they do something but when something seems un ordinary to me I will comment . I there fore rest my case lol!
How did barrelprincess101 insult anyone? She didn't! She told someone that she rides a 26 year old 2d/3d horse with clean x-rays, and she said that they don't constantly whip their horses..... I don't see any insult in that at all...
Using spurs or whip - i never said you needed to or didnt. I prefer to use spurs but thats just me. I didn't judge anyone on their preferance to use spurs or a whip.
I use spurs on one horse, and a whip with another. It all depends on the horse for me. If that insults people, then maybe they are in the wrong business?? Neither hurts the horse, and in barrels if you need the added speed, then those give it to you. Some people don't realize that. As for using spurs in pleasure, but not barrels, that's weird to me, because in pleasure you don't want speed. But that's just my opinion...haha. If people are insulted, they don't know what they're talking about!
ya there both fine but you hav to use them right and some horses r diffrent so if u use spurs on ur pleasure horse and not barrel horse thats there bussines k
I didn't say it was my business. I train horses, and not once have I used a set of spurs on a pleasure horse, just caught my attention when the poster said that. Ok?
u all r a joke chill out every thing is hard in the horse world! it all takes differnt riding but theres not one thing that is easy i ride english, western pleasure, barrel racing and jumping and its all hard!!!!!
I hate it when people say that english is just so much harder, well, im a barrel racer and sure you can get hurt in both, but english is, 50x FASTER! in english, you fall and sure it hurts. you fall in barrel racing, youve got broken bones, and cracked ribs and skulls and its way harder, takes more natural seeat, (u really dont need naturalness in english!) and thats it! So ya :/ so english people, quit saying how easy this looks on your slow little 1 mph ponies! this only applies to the mean 1s
im so with u im a barrel racer too and just started english 2 years ago so i can join pony clube and now i do jumper classes cuz in all the other classes you hav to go so slow!!! i hate it!
'SugarSweetLollipop'- I ride both English and Western.
Barrel racing, Jumping, Hunter & Hunter EQ.
The horses aren't slower, the seat ability is the same.
Also, I'd like to point out, that you need a natural seat in ANYTHING that does with a horse, if you want to be a good rider. That's for sure.
Western may be rougher sometimes, but mostly it's the same. It requires the same amount of skill to ride a horse as to ride another. REGARDLESS of what you put on their backs and in their mouth. =]
Ya I just started barel racing lessons and I love it I love the thrill I get when I go full speed its awsome and I was only riding a quarter horse that I didnt go full force on I have an Arabian and he can really go fast if I want him too I LUVS IT :D and everyone EVRY sport is dangerouse so you know what dont think just cuz you go fast means you will fall of if you have a good seat a good horse and cotrol you wont fall off ( unless something unexpected happens) YOU have to be ready too
Ok so i read all these n im tryin not to go off but abbers102 just cause the horse is fast doesn't mean ur gonna fall off i have one of the fastest horse u will find n i have never fallin off of him i fell off my mother pleasure horse k so just cause its fast doesn't mean ur gonna fall off n when i fell off my moms pleasure horse not my cutting horse k n if you don't know what cutting is search it up cause its alot harder then barrel racing!!!!
cuttings fun!! i cant believe all these idiots like abbers102 wtf r they thinking i remember my mom tellin me bout his story of a guy who fell off trotting in a dressage class and he broke his neck and no longer can ride that jst proves anything could happen at any time so whoever keeps saying the faster you go you will fall off and hyrt yourself just think before you speak!=] and mayb the next time ur wlkin on ur horse you will fall off cuz ANYTHING can hapen...
ok we all see that trickpedia has a mind of his own! let him think that the horse does all the work, we know its not true so whats the point in aruging with him??? he dosent know anything about horses and its pointless to waste your time on is dumbass self. so we all just need to stop commenting back to him cause were giving him attetion and if we dont im sure he will leave! just dont talk to him we all know that everything he says is BULLSHIT so dont bother fighting with him!!
people need to speak before they type stuff and post it! i mean seriously! how does all this crap get started just over a VIDEO ON YOUTUBE!!!!!!!!!!!! i mean seriously!!!!!!!!! this stuff is stupid!!!!!!!!!!!
its not just goin out there and turning around cans cause in order for a horse to turn that sharp that fast takes a longg time! and we dont just "sit" up there and say giddy up! we have to control the horse and make them pay attetion and listen! and i have a horse thats 27 and has never had joint crap and has been to a ton of rodeos and i still rodeo of him! i dont think they had joint supplement 50 or 60 years ago! He has never had a problem in his life! Go start a fight somewhere else!!
I had my fair last week and i saw a girl's horse try to jump the gate in keyhole...the rider has two broken elbows and the horse almost broke it's legs when it flipped the gate and got tangled...So please if your gonna make dumb comments think about the people you offend and maybe give it a shot so that the rest of us can laugh and say we told you so! this takes years of work and practice that comes with the techniques we develop with our horse not to mention leg strength and balls...so SHUT IT!
im curriose....how duz 1 ride in white jeans and keep them clean like that? its imposible they will get so dirty..... ive tried riding in light blue jeans and they came back from a race like 8 times darker lol
horses do not do ALL the work. its a team effort. if the riders dont work then you would be runing laps around the arena. It takes as much effort from both parts, horses are the muscle and riders are the brain ur muscles wont function without ur brain
for all you people who think barrel racing is easy think again it takes hours of hard work and a hole lot of dedication it takes a good fast horse and a really good rider and it takes a good partnership between horse and rider it is by far not just gat on and ride and not just sitting on your horse either so people need to just keep that in mind b4 u go bad mouthing barrel racers
Its almost a predictive death, since the Horse wont be able to pick itself up and hold itself up anymore. I dont Barrel Race, I'm just a feild and trail rider. Anywho, this isnt a hate comment, just a hint on whats up with the Horses that are pushed to limits. Track Racers, Barrels, cart pullers all that good stuff, isnt all that good for your Horse when he/she reaches old age. Anywayz! Wonderful video by the way. ^-^ LOVED the song and clips, matched perfectly.
Every sport is hard on whatever being is doing it. Softball players have shoulder problems when they're older, wrestlers get bad backs. It's not just horses that get slower with old age. In fact, with proper nutrition and maintenance, the horse can be pushed to the limits and live a very happy retirement. All it takes is the right care throughout its life to make its old age happy and healthy. The same goes for people. It's a fact of life.
Thats not true. I have a horse that has been pushed pretty hard through out his life. He as been rodeod on all his life. And I am still running consistant fast times on a standard pattern. And he is 23 and is going great. If you maintain them and keep there legs in good condition. And give them joint supplements then they will be fine. They are athletes you have to take care of there bodies so they will keep up with all the pressure it goes through. And almost all barrel racers take great care.
the horse i ride is 23 and she is doing great .... she has millions of pounds of energy, she acts like a filly out in the arena. She used to be a cutting horse and the horse that rounds up bulls after the bull riders fell off. She is now a lesson horse, but could easily still be barrel racing today!
The Horses do MOST of the work, all the trainers do is train them to do it, unless they bought the Horse from someone else who had trained it for that specified sport. But what most people dont realize, 'cause their head is too much in the competing, is that when that Horse is between the age of perhaps 24-30 years old. There is a GREAT percentage that the Horse's knee's will go out from being pushed so hard in its earlier days. Racers, pullers, barrels all the ones that do any push 'n run sport
I've seen many retired barrel horses with some arthritis, but nothing crippling. If you take good care of your horse and its joints throughout its life there shouldn't be any major problems when they get old. Keeping serious competitors on joint supplements to keep the cartilage healthy, as well as HA acid present to lube the joint, their knees should be fine. It's all about proper care and maintenance. Honestly think about this before you write these things.
I've only posted on what I'VE seen and what I'VE known ever since all 3 of MY family's Horses died from sustaining Arthritis, FROM being pushed too hard, in their earlier days TOLD by vets and I'm learning to BE one, I WORK and OWN a farm, So I should know about my live stalk. Now, Don't come posting shit comments trying to be smarter than me, when you don't know the shit I know. I HAVE Horses that have been lame, have leg problems and have recently healed, but still favor that one leg. So hush.
I have been working with horses for the vast majority of my life, and am also studying to be a vet. I guarantee you that I know as much if not more than you know. There are horses at my barn that have been pushed hard their entire life without one problem. I care for a horse with chronic navicular disease and had leased a horse who foundered. I know my shit, especially about athletic horses. With proper care a horse can live its old days in peace without pain.
Ya you can train them to do it but that doesnt mean that you can just sit on them and do nothing and expect them to do everthing. You have to put them where they need to be and make sure they dont cut off there pocket and hit a barrel. And much more. And if you take care of your horse then there knees wont give out. Same as an athlete you have to take care of them so they can continue working hard.
Not everyone is religious, therefore not everyone is going to use god's name the way you wish for them to. It's a fact of life, the sooner you realize this the better. Not everyone is worried about sinning.
you sound like a retard when you say that, its not that hard to SIT on a fucking horse, wow, its not like gravity is just gonna pull you offf the dumbass horse you idiot, and btw, ive ridden horses and its boring and not hard at all.
@Trickipedia uhm..just a tip! when tha horse goes to bucking, rearing, and sometimes even slipping..yeah that thing called gravity that u suppose isn't against u..yeah well then it is..cuz unless when that horse goes to rearin or buckin and u start magicall floatin in tha air..my best bet is that ur ass is gone be on tha ground!! where it shuld be!
I do admit skateboarding and all that stuff is hard cuz i have tried it. but it is not nearly as hard as training a living breathing animal that has its own mind and can do whatever it wants. and did u know (prob not) horses dont know their actual strength so if u have ever fallen off or kicked (prob not) it wasnt their hardest. so dont call us PUSSYs when u are actually one cuz we have been kicked and all other crud and we still get right back on the horse and kick its but for doin that!
ugh. wow i agree with tazfran 100%! I do gymkhana and it requires ALOT! if u have never really done barrel racing then dont talk about it. When u have a winning time in barrel racing, and trained the horse to do that then u can talk about how "easy" it really is.
ok lets see u get on a horse and go flyn' around barrals with a winning time and then see how tricky i is to stay on and get the winning time trust me i dont compeat but i do barral raceing' takes lots of skill!!!!! i want to se u get on a horse and get a winning time!
you have close to 1500lbs of extremely unpredictable animal underneath yoU! barrel racing is dangerous because you're making that animal to run full out and yet still pay attention to you and stay controllable. don't ever say riding horses takes no skill because I can bet you've never really ridden.... just walked on a trail ride on a 20 year old, half blind, broke to death cow pony. or was lead around in a circle on a lead line pony.
no there not super dangerous compared to other extreme sports, OK, all you idiots say its SO DANGEROUS when its not, horses barely ever freak out, and when they do you usually just hold on and your fine, GOD YOUR ALL PUSSYS
horses barely freak out?! HAHA okay first of all you sound like the most retarded n00b when it comes to horses. Horses are flighty animals and sometimes you just CAN'T hold on, & sometimes when they freak out it accidents can happen. Look at Christopher Reeves. Equestrian IS an extreme sport. Have you SEEN three day eventing and stadium jumping in the higher up levels? It's ALL extreme because anything can happen. Has it ever occured to you that a horse could kill you if it wanted to?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
wow, you people actually say your a noob in horse riding, hahahahaha thats the funniest and stupidest thing ever, you can only call somebody a noob in a sport that actually takes kill, not just sitting on something that does all the work for you, its not cool dude, or i mean hillbilly country whatever faggit you are
Does all the work for you? Again you've proved that you know next to nothing about riding. Mommy's push button trail ponies and letting the horse do whatever it wants is NOT riding. You've sat on them but you couldn't begin to fathom just how complicated it is. Only someone completely ignorant would have the gall to say equine sports don't require skill. Don't disrespect all the real riders out there with your arrogance and by talking down to the SPORT. If you don't like it, don't watch .
your giving all horseback riders a bad name, not that other person. going around and calling people hairy monkey nuts is not going to change what they think of horseback riding, your just making us look more ignorant when your the only ignorant one here
fiine be like that. i'll just erase it all and not give a crap what other people think about horseback riding. beciase horseback riding is so obviously easy u know. ya ya, you know.
You should not care what other people think of our sport, its just immature to get all worked up about it when YOU know what our sport is really like and it makes the rest of us seem bad.
I never said our sport was easy, infact i completely agree with you that it isnt... but please chill, don't take all this to offense.
why would i want to be mature anyways, im young. and anyways, what the fuck. just serisously, wtf. not cool man not cool. and yes, i'll just take it chill and not care that someone is being a da and saying hbr is easy and not dangeous and blahh and f.o.s. no thxx,, not thx,
I'd bet my life on if I got you up on my horse you wouldn't last five minutes, because you'd PUSSY out. And I have to say YOU'RE the only idiot I see because you comment on a topic you know nearly nothing about, gaging by the load of crap you've told me about horses. Until you've ridden, and I mean REALLY ridden you can't say shit about how it's not dangerous (what a LAUGH!).
hahahaha to bad ive already rode horses because my mom has them and its the gayest thing ive ever done, i dont see how you loser enjoy it. wow, its notimpressive or anything, and im use to gnar shit because i throw myself down shit on my skateboard so sitting on a fucking horse would be the easiest thing of my life, you cant judge me
sure, sitting on a horse is the easy part. ACTUALLY riding it is a different story, especially barrel racing. go poisen someone elses videos with your stupidity and your ignorance. dont like it? fine. state your opinions? thats fine too. But when you trash barrel racing and say its 'easy' and 'gay' thats when i get a bit ticked off seeing as how you cant fathom the amount of work and effort it takes to be able to barrel race.
@Trickipedia u lyin sack of...yeahh haha...tha key word u used is "young"..well when u were young i bet ur lil mommy u keep reffering to soo much..sat u on tha lil 20" pony and gently led ur lil panzy ass around tha barrels! haaa! what u havnt done is ACTUALLY barrel race! try runnin a 13 sec. around time on the back of a 1000 pound animal..thats what the PROFESSIONALS run! u know tha ppl who can ACTUALLY criticise the sport!
@Trickipedia OMG!! u have 2 be tha stupidest person ever! i mean u CANT judge something uve never even done! i bet u got on some dam 20" lead-line pony that ur mommy sat u on and started 2 cry when it started walkn! HA do what we do jus 1 time! go full speed round some barrels on a 15 to 16hh horse and see how long u can go w/out landin on ur ass and makin urself look even more stupid then u are now!!
seriously. STOP going onto horse videos and commenting them. you are being a fucking jack ass!!!! leave us ALONE and we will leave you alone. so BACK OFF!
okay im standing up for all us english people! other wise know as 'posh dumbasses' by you westerns people.you spend a day with one of us,youll see the passion and courage and bond we have with the horses.i could say much more but i cant be arsed typing.

@equinizeyourlife & anyone wanting to barrel race:
Learn the barrel pattern and work on strengthening your horse. I know two ladies who have been around horses for 30-40+ years each, everyone elese who i talk to ALWAYS says something similar to this: "Learn the pattern, build up speed and endurance, and learn to move with your horse. If you do nothing but the barrels and go hardcore then you will end up having a lame horse." Best of luck!

@HorseRider4507
I know of a few English riders who run barrels in their saddles. Western or English, barrel racing is a show of how much you trust the mount you are on since one sharp turn could kill you or your friend.
Serena152973 1 year ago
@Serena152973 Are you kidding me? Obviously those riders.. are loping. Becuase true barrel racing CANNOT be done in an english saddle no matter how much balance you have. a True 1d horse will give you a run for yoour money in an english saddle
blingedupride 1 year ago 2
@blingedupride
Unless you try to do cross country in western saddle then you can't say that. It is a false pretence that those events take those perticular saddle but they don't.
Serena152973 1 year ago
@Serena152973 why would i do cross country in a western saddle? your making no sense. On a TRUE barrel horse, you would fall off running in an english saddle.

I've never done barrels before, except for fun. I'm not in it for the speed, I am just trying to learn to become a better rider.
Britneykitty 1 year ago

Any tips? Btw, Hunter riders: don't hate! barrels are amazing!!
equinizeyourlife 1 year ago 18
Hey, don't be afraid of the saddle. :) Most Western saddles are SUPER comfy (if you ever get the chance, try out a really nice roping saddle... heaven!), and they provide a little more of a bowl for your butt to sit in. The horn really doesn't get in the way at all, so you don't have to worry about that. To train to barrel race, I'd read about it and watch people who have raced before. Remember to stay relaxed and listen to your horse. If you can jump, you can do barrels, promise. :)

@HorseRider4507 I barrel race and I jumped a little when I was younger. Today I got on my friends english horse and it was hard. English and Western riding is equally the same at how hard it is but they're just harder in different ways. I think all English and Western riders deserve respect in what they do.
MikaylaRose1 1 year ago
@equinizeyourlife try an australian saddle without the horn. not sure if their permited in competition but be a good training tool for you. a transition between the english and the western. either way have fun
123456789mischief 1 year ago
@equinizeyourlife im like the opposite of you, i do barrels but i really want to try the jumping. my one barrel horse LOVES to jump but i dont no the proper ways to train him. lol
34BaRReLRaCeR43 9 months ago
@equinizeyourlife Same concept... lots of patience, time, and no overpowering on either end. You and your horse have to learn TOGETHER. Learn the pivot points and the basics of the sport, and go from there. Start by leading him around them, then walk, then trot, then canter, then go at it full speed (take your TIME). The saddle won't gut you, but you will fall... so will your horse. It's all part of the game. Good luck!
dosthepost 7 months ago
@doggieram: I think that the English horses have speed and are agile, but in different ways than our QHs. I'm currently working with a 14.3 hand mare -- she'll probably get around barrels faster than a 17 hand Hanoverian, but the Hanoverian will most likely be a better jumper. It's just a matter of body type, and what the horses have been bred for.
maspringob 1 year ago
@ssdrake11
Have you tried to run barrels in your jumping saddle? If you haven't, you really don't have the right to make all of these biased comments about barrel racers. You also need to take into account the speed these horses are going and how sharp the turns are. Sometimes a lack of communication causes a rider to fall off, it's not always because of a lack of balance.
maspringob 2 years ago 8
@maspringob and also, those english jumping horses dont have NEAR the speed and agility of our quarter horses, they may have the stamina but not the speed. i just watched a few videos of hanoverians and drafts[besidethepoint] running barrels and they go so much slower...

barrel racers have gut but there at the bottum talent list! you ride in the most balenced saddels and then you go around the turn and fall off! i am a jumper rider and i have so much ballence i could do that in my jumping saddel... WITH NO HANDEL!!!
ssdrake11 2 years ago
@ssdrake11 look budy you are so totally some stuck up snob the way you talk. and have you ever been on barrel horse? I can see not. those horses work soooo hard and go through sooooo much training to become the best and this is the way you talk about them???? and if you ever rode on that goes that fast and turns that hard as a real barrel horse does you would be on the ground. and not all people hold on to the horn, I sure don't. and you would totally have to.
tomboy4always 1 year ago
@ssdrake11 ha, its funny cause your an ass. not all barrel racers use the HORN (not a handle, sweetie) I'd like to see you get a good time in your "Jumping Saddle" going through that pattern. what you do the horse does the work for you, all you have to do is sit, you sound like a snobby bitch. hope you find a life soon, because you can't cut down barrel racers you're whole life. And its Bottom, Not bottum. gee for such a great English rider you think you'd at least know how to speak English. . .

trust me barrel racing has been my life since i could remember. i understand how iportant good slow training is but its not worth it if your horse hates u. and its not the riding your horse needs its you. so if you dont ride him 4 a week cuz ur so busy with something like homework just spend 10 minutes grooming and talking to them they will love it and so will u not everything u do with ur horse involves rules or u on their back. learn 2 play with them 2 just sit in the field n talk to them.
Barrelracingchick246 2 years ago 2
a barrel horse is never "finished" you can always improve. always. and if you want have a good barrel horse and be a good barrel racer: know your horse and let your horse know u. have the strongest relationship you can have with them. no amount of riding and training will get u anywhere if you and your horse have no connection but the saddle. u cant build a house on quicksand you need a good foundation before you start training.

BarrelRacer444 2 years ago
@BarrelRacer444 SLOW SLOW SLOW lol.. SLOW work is where its at. if you keep working on flexing, sets, pockets, keeping bent and flexed, and working slow then you'll have an amazing barrel horse. Hell I've only had my horse for maybe over 2 years, and when i got him he was a standing stud for 5 years *he's 6 lol* and a halter horse, barely every been ridin. But my trainers *who are in my videos* you can see helped me FINISH him. Yes in less than 1 year he is a FINISHED barrel horse :) ^read more^
mightysteelzipper 2 years ago 3
@BarrelRacer444.. they have always told me that slower is faster. Because when you work slower the horse understands the pattern alot better because they focus on rating, flexing, bending, and listening to your feet rather than flipping out over "going fast". lol. So my tip(s) is this:
1.) Work on flexing side to side
2.) Work on hind quarter pivots keeping them on their butt and working off their butt.
3.) Work on nice slow circles not always around the barrels and working off ^readmore^
mightysteelzipper 2 years ago 2
@BarrelRacer444 ** your leg pressure.
4.) SLOW SLOW SLOW work :)
5.) Get them VERY patterned, the better they know the pattern the better they'll do when you add speed.
6.) NEVER EVER use a snaffle bit of ANY kind with a one ear headstall *bad experiences lol*
7.) Don't be set on one out look of barrel racers, take tips from ALL barrel racers and go with the one that best fits you.
^readmore:)^
mightysteelzipper 2 years ago 2
@BarrelRacer444
If you have any questions please just mail me :)

using spurs doesnt have anything to do with have a horse who is a power house.. the mare i run is a short shocky tank who can our run horses 2 hands taller than her, i use spurs just so i can get he over and up faster around the barrels.

How did barrelprincess101 insult anyone? She didn't! She told someone that she rides a 26 year old 2d/3d horse with clean x-rays, and she said that they don't constantly whip their horses..... I don't see any insult in that at all...

JDVStableRider 2 years ago
How did i insult anyone?
Using spurs or whip - i never said you needed to or didnt. I prefer to use spurs but thats just me. I didn't judge anyone on their preferance to use spurs or a whip.
barrelprincess101 2 years ago
I use spurs on one horse, and a whip with another. It all depends on the horse for me. If that insults people, then maybe they are in the wrong business?? Neither hurts the horse, and in barrels if you need the added speed, then those give it to you. Some people don't realize that. As for using spurs in pleasure, but not barrels, that's weird to me, because in pleasure you don't want speed. But that's just my opinion...haha. If people are insulted, they don't know what they're talking about!

XxJUMPERxXxCHICKxX 2 years ago 2
'SugarSweetLollipop'- I ride both English and Western.
Barrel racing, Jumping, Hunter & Hunter EQ.
The horses aren't slower, the seat ability is the same.
Also, I'd like to point out, that you need a natural seat in ANYTHING that does with a horse, if you want to be a good rider. That's for sure.
Western may be rougher sometimes, but mostly it's the same. It requires the same amount of skill to ride a horse as to ride another. REGARDLESS of what you put on their backs and in their mouth. =]

horses do not do ALL the work. its a team effort. if the riders dont work then you would be runing laps around the arena. It takes as much effort from both parts, horses are the muscle and riders are the brain ur muscles wont function without ur brain
Barrelracingchick246 2 years ago
for all you people who think barrel racing is easy think again it takes hours of hard work and a hole lot of dedication it takes a good fast horse and a really good rider and it takes a good partnership between horse and rider it is by far not just gat on and ride and not just sitting on your horse either so people need to just keep that in mind b4 u go bad mouthing barrel racers
kaykay4411 2 years ago
Its almost a predictive death, since the Horse wont be able to pick itself up and hold itself up anymore. I dont Barrel Race, I'm just a feild and trail rider. Anywho, this isnt a hate comment, just a hint on whats up with the Horses that are pushed to limits. Track Racers, Barrels, cart pullers all that good stuff, isnt all that good for your Horse when he/she reaches old age. Anywayz! Wonderful video by the way. ^-^ LOVED the song and clips, matched perfectly.
HinaUchi 2 years ago
Every sport is hard on whatever being is doing it. Softball players have shoulder problems when they're older, wrestlers get bad backs. It's not just horses that get slower with old age. In fact, with proper nutrition and maintenance, the horse can be pushed to the limits and live a very happy retirement. All it takes is the right care throughout its life to make its old age happy and healthy. The same goes for people. It's a fact of life.
Horselvr139 2 years ago
Thats not true. I have a horse that has been pushed pretty hard through out his life. He as been rodeod on all his life. And I am still running consistant fast times on a standard pattern. And he is 23 and is going great. If you maintain them and keep there legs in good condition. And give them joint supplements then they will be fine. They are athletes you have to take care of there bodies so they will keep up with all the pressure it goes through. And almost all barrel racers take great care.
kelliefan1017 2 years ago
the horse i ride is 23 and she is doing great .... she has millions of pounds of energy, she acts like a filly out in the arena.

HinaUchi 2 years ago
Yes horse do do most of the work but really when it all comes down to it.....Horses and riders do an equal amount of work!
westernhorsegirl96 2 years ago
The horse does all of the physical work while the riders take care of the mental work while riding.
BUT
when you're caring for your horse, brushing and feeding and mucking, you're doing the work.
it all balances out

I've seen many retired barrel horses with some arthritis, but nothing crippling. If you take good care of your horse and its joints throughout its life there shouldn't be any major problems when they get old. Keeping serious competitors on joint supplements to keep the cartilage healthy, as well as HA acid present to lube the joint, their knees should be fine. It's all about proper care and maintenance. Honestly think about this before you write these things.
Horselvr139 2 years ago
I've only posted on what I'VE seen and what I'VE known ever since all 3 of MY family's Horses died from sustaining Arthritis, FROM being pushed too hard, in their earlier days TOLD by vets and I'm learning to BE one, I WORK and OWN a farm, So I should know about my live stalk. Now, Don't come posting shit comments trying to be smarter than me, when you don't know the shit I know. I HAVE Horses that have been lame, have leg problems and have recently healed, but still favor that one leg. So hush.
HinaUchi 2 years ago
I have been working with horses for the vast majority of my life, and am also studying to be a vet. I guarantee you that I know as much if not more than you know. There are horses at my barn that have been pushed hard their entire life without one problem. I care for a horse with chronic navicular disease and had leased a horse who foundered. I know my shit, especially about athletic horses. With proper care a horse can live its old days in peace without pain.
Horselvr139 2 years ago
if you had properly taken care of them it wouldnt have happened. Legend shots and MSM can fix and prevent it
barrelprincess101 2 years ago
Ya you can train them to do it but that doesnt mean that you can just sit on them and do nothing and expect them to do everthing. You have to put them where they need to be and make sure they dont cut off there pocket and hit a barrel. And much more. And if you take care of your horse then there knees wont give out. Same as an athlete you have to take care of them so they can continue working hard.

how do you explain a 26 year old still running consistently in the 1d, raced all his life, AND HIS EX RAYS ARE CLEAN?!?!
barrelprincess101 2 years ago
Excuse me?
HinaUchi 2 years ago
I run a 26 year old with clean x rays. 1d in his day and 2d/3d right now. Barrel raced all his life with CLEAN x rays. no arthritis no nothing..
You can keep their joints nice if you get legend shots every 6 weeks
barrelprincess101 2 years ago
really those who talk shit, shut up.. you try doin that.. it isnt easy not everyone can do it..

Not everyone is religious, therefore not everyone is going to use god's name the way you wish for them to. It's a fact of life, the sooner you realize this the better. Not everyone is worried about sinning.

Trickipedia 2 years ago
@Trickipedia uhm..just a tip! when tha horse goes to bucking, rearing, and sometimes even slipping..yeah that thing called gravity that u suppose isn't against u..yeah well then it is..cuz unless when that horse goes to rearin or buckin and u start magicall floatin in tha air..my best bet is that ur ass is gone be on tha ground!! where it shuld be!

I do admit skateboarding and all that stuff is hard cuz i have tried it. but it is not nearly as hard as training a living breathing animal that has its own mind and can do whatever it wants. and did u know (prob not) horses dont know their actual strength so if u have ever fallen off or kicked (prob not) it wasnt their hardest. so dont call us PUSSYs when u are actually one cuz we have been kicked and all other crud and we still get right back on the horse and kick its but for doin that!
mlebron5395 2 years ago
ugh. wow i agree with tazfran 100%! I do gymkhana and it requires ALOT! if u have never really done barrel racing then dont talk about it. When u have a winning time in barrel racing, and trained the horse to do that then u can talk about how "easy" it really is.
mlebron5395 2 years ago
hey, if you need a reallllly good place to get barrel racing videos message me. And they are of Brittany Pozzi, ill give you the website
amberrmae 2 years ago

Trickipedia 2 years ago

horses are SUPER dangerous
you have close to 1500lbs of extremely unpredictable animal underneath yoU! barrel racing is dangerous because you're making that animal to run full out and yet still pay attention to you and stay controllable. don't ever say riding horses takes no skill because I can bet you've never really ridden.... just walked on a trail ride on a 20 year old, half blind, broke to death cow pony. or was lead around in a circle on a lead line pony.
tazfran 2 years ago
no there not super dangerous compared to other extreme sports, OK, all you idiots say its SO DANGEROUS when its not, horses barely ever freak out, and when they do you usually just hold on and your fine, GOD YOUR ALL PUSSYS
Trickipedia 2 years ago
horses barely freak out?!

This comment has received too many negative votes show
wow, you people actually say your a noob in horse riding, hahahahaha thats the funniest and stupidest thing ever, you can only call somebody a noob in a sport that actually takes kill, not just sitting on something that does all the work for you, its not cool dude, or i mean hillbilly country whatever faggit you are
Trickipedia 2 years ago
Does all the work for you? Again you've proved that you know next to nothing about riding. Mommy's push button trail ponies and letting the horse do whatever it wants is NOT riding. You've sat on them but you couldn't begin to fathom just how complicated it is. Only someone completely ignorant would have the gall to say equine sports don't require skill. Don't disrespect all the real riders out there with your arrogance and by talking down to the SPORT. If you don't like it, don't watch .

your giving all horseback riders a bad name, not that other person. going around and calling people hairy monkey nuts is not going to change what they think of horseback riding, your just making us look more ignorant when your the only ignorant one here
barrelprincess101 2 years ago
fiine be like that. i'll just erase it all and not give a crap what other people think about horseback riding. beciase horseback riding is so obviously easy u know. ya ya, you know.
horsecrazy17414 2 years ago
You should not care what other people think of our sport, its just immature to get all worked up about it when YOU know what our sport is really like and it makes the rest of us seem bad.
I never said our sport was easy, infact i completely agree with you that it isnt... but please chill, don't take all this to offense.
barrelprincess101 2 years ago
why would i want to be mature anyways, im young. and anyways, what the fuck. just serisously, wtf. not cool man not cool. and yes, i'll just take it chill and not care that someone is being a da and saying hbr is easy and not dangeous and blahh and f.o.s. no thxx,, not thx,
horsecrazy17414 2 years ago
Your crazy, i honestly have not a clue what you just said.
grow up

horsecrazy17414 2 years ago
I'd bet my life on if I got you up on my horse you wouldn't last five minutes, because you'd PUSSY out. And I have to say YOU'RE the only idiot I see because you comment on a topic you know nearly nothing about, gaging by the load of crap you've told me about horses. Until you've ridden, and I mean REALLY ridden you can't say shit about how it's not dangerous (what a LAUGH!).
tazfran 2 years ago
hahahaha to bad ive already rode horses because my mom has them and its the gayest thing ive ever done, i dont see how you loser enjoy it. wow, its notimpressive or anything, and im use to gnar shit because i throw myself down shit on my skateboard so sitting on a fucking horse would be the easiest thing of my life, you cant judge me
Trickipedia 2 years ago
sure, sitting on a horse is the easy part. ACTUALLY riding it is a different story, especially barrel racing. go poisen someone elses videos with your stupidity and your ignorance. dont like it? fine. state your opinions? thats fine too. But when you trash barrel racing and say its 'easy' and 'gay' thats when i get a bit ticked off seeing as how you cant fathom the amount of work and effort it takes to be able to barrel race.
much lovee,
one of the 'losers' you are referring to :)

MnMs108 2 years ago
@Trickipedia OMG!! u have 2 be tha stupidest person ever! i mean u CANT judge something uve never even done! i bet u got on some dam 20" lead-line pony that ur mommy sat u on and started 2 cry when it started walkn! HA do what we do jus 1 time! go full speed round some barrels on a 15 to 16hh horse and see how long u can go w/out landin on ur ass and makin urself look even more stupid then u are now!!
