  • Man, I had my head up my butt and never went and saw Blaze play and I was in Austin for years back then. I hear all the great stories now from some of his old friends and I realize I really miss out.

  • @KnifemakingUnplugged ....dont feel bad...i am just now finding him.....he knows you are listening...and he told me to tell you....thank you.....

  • @freeman2545 - "he knows you are listening?" How in the hell's he gonna do that??? He's DEAD you moron. Your childish fantasies about what happens after death is plain stupid. And Blaze talks to you? You're an idiot. Or just a stupid wasted drunk like Blaze.

  • @MrBlackBrit ...what the hells wrong with that?

  • cant we get country music back to the country god rest you blaze

  • I just have to comment over those previous two retarded statements. Here's to you, Blaze!

  • I think Bieber has a version of this. It is actually far superior --much easier to dance to!

  • @SuperstarDundee you are such a pussy

  • I think Bieber has a version of this. It is actually far superior.

  • @SuperstarDundee dipshit

  • im startin over at 43 in love with the one not too late dont give up peace yall

  • isnt it true that if you feed a pigeon a little clay..... he wont fly-----away

  • 2 people hate duct tape clothing.

  • I'm from the UK and I've just started discovering all this Southern American folk/country music, this is so good but nothing I have discovered matches up to the genius of Townes Van Zandt.

  • @MrRobWhite and nothing will

  • does anyone know of any live footage of Blaze playing this song?

  • @tsbrenner check with the Ut library...im sure they have something on shelves

  • Apologies to Zsalto66 - The following note is directed to MrElectricity.

  • Zsalto66 - I assure you my friend, John Prine did not write this, Blaze Foley did. There are multiple interviews available online in which John describes his feelings upon hearing it the first time and why he decided to cover it.

  • @zenwhips Could you direct me to the interviews you refer to? I'm a long-time Prine fan, and when I first heard this song I thought it described his feelings about starting to sing again after his health problems. Great song. I don't understand the "feed the pigeons some clay" reference though.

  • John Prine is one of the most talented songwriters who ewer lived and a personal favorite of mine, but he has more than enough kudos and credits for the songs he wrote and they stand on their own merit. He does not need, nor, dare I say, want, credit for songs he did not write. Clay Pigeons is one of them.

  • @themacdrake I did, you're right, I'm sorry.

  • This song has been playing over and over in my head the past week.

  • magical! Smooth, cool and just damn catchy!

  • All y'all got to check out the lyrics in Blaze Foley's song "You'll Get Yours Aplenty."

It's a gem of a socially relevant song with lyrics reminiscent of Simon and Garfunkel, but from this late great baritone country artist!

  • Beautiful song and what a great artist. . .a friend told me about this and I had never heard of Blaze Foley, but I certainly have now! Thanks Guy!

  • so glad I found Blaze....what an amazing talent. This might be the most honest, heartbreaking song I've ever heard.

  • Dub Miller turned me on to this song. Thanks Dub

  • I would like to thank Gurf Morlix for introducing me to Blaze and his music. I love both you guys.

  • Legendary.

  • Blaze was what Austin was all about

  • Thank fucking god people are starting to find Blaze....been on him at least 10 years and people look at me like i'm stupid when i play one of his songs... a true troubadour in every sense of the word

  • If this song doesn't get to you...

  • This is a beautiful treasure! Thought it was Prine's. Thats quite a song!

  • fell in love with it...!

  • first heard the John Prine cover and loved it on my life...

of course, the original is better...

    brilliant song.

  • I dig this so much I did it and put it in my feature player, lol.

When mofos say I'm a screwin' up I flip'em off and say, "Hell, I've lived almost 12 years longer than Blaze Foley."

  • @oldman103 - shoot them, as in shooting skeet...those discs are

  • shoot them...like skeet shooting...the skeet is made of clay and it's in the air, like a

  • Feed the pigeons some clay? why ? and why is this song called clay pigeons?

    I love it !!!

  • @oldman103 arent clay pigeons the things you shoot for target practice?

  • @oldman103 Clay pigeons.Blaze was all about the absurd.

  • @oldman103 Well, "clay pigeons" are the little disks people launch for target practice. You can take that for what it's worth.

  • @oldman103 My art teacher used to feed pigeons clay all the time.

At first I thought it was Blaze trying to be kind of deep and basically saying he's so dirt poor that he's obviously never been able to shoot clay pigeons or probably even knows what they are. But then you remember Blaze was one of a kind and probably just liked feeding Pigeons clay :)

  • @ThedogDio Thanks, that was driving me crazy, just made no sense, and I got a few answers about clay pigeons. That didn't make any sense either so I started reading and found out that people do ,in fact, feed pigeons clay.Blaze did a lot of drawing and painting of birds, mostly ducks and pigeons ,so it all began to make sense. It was just something he would do because he liked pigeons, not some abstract line in the song just to mess up (my) mind. Thanks again for the "backup"answer.

  • @ThedogDio If you don't have The Dawg Days CD yet,get it.Excellent !!!!

  • real nice.

  • touches the heart

  • Pickin' 'bout spittin' and lovin'! Dang good stuff!

  • this song is great.

  • I could build me a castle of memories just to have somewhere to go... oh man.

  • I don't know why this's so appealing, I'm really not even into this type of music... I just love it, though. All this talk of escaping. I'm a teenager, so of course this is a big thing on my mind. I love the "Ride 'til the sun comes up, and down and around about two or three times,"

  • @only2comment98 you should check out townes van zandt too, i discovered him at 17 and i listened to only him for like 3 years. all my friends made fun of me but I couldnt get enough there is also a documentary about him you get get on torrent...called Be Here To Love Me...

  • @slovakmath

townes is amazing... fuck anyone who makes fun of you for loving such a talented man.

  • This ain't my type of music but........ I like it.

  • as for all the great song writers

  • i heard this song on KGSR and searched and searched for it on youtube. i only heard john prine do it, but didn't know title...but ALAST! i found it! wow...heavy good stuff. thnx

  • Something real nice about this one!

  • live on.....

  • townes, larry jon wilson, steve young, guy clark, porter wagoner, mickey newbury, calvin russel, willis alan ramsey, and BLAZE. true down to the earth artists that i'm lucky enough to know about and love.

  • This man is as real as it gets.

  • Someone introduced me to Townes Van Zandt recently. I discovered this great artist because of that. Those guys sang from the heart, great music. Just wondering how many more gems I will find on here.

  • Great lyrics too

  • the first time i heard this song my mind was blown. i searched for blaze foley after i discovered john prine and heard him cover this...this song is so heart-wrenchingly honest. no frills, no fuss, it's so real any one of us could sing it...i don't know if i've ever heard such an honest song. all substance, no filler. wish all songwriters would aspire to write like this. "if i could only fly" is similarly devastating. love you, foley.

  • I love Blaze's music! It has sooo much feel to it

  • Well, I know what MY next iTunes card is gonne be spent on!

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written... God bless you Blaze.....

  • They should make a movie about Blaze Foley.

  • I love Foley. He's so incredible I can't really put it into words.

  • This great artist left us way too soon.I love this song.

  • I never heard of Blaze before today but have heard Prine's cover of this song. Blaze is great. I look forward to hearing more of him and learning more about his work.

  • Love!

  • @hwatt1960 wow, who put the stick up your butt? John doesn't really have roots in Nasvhille, even though he's lived there a long time. He's sung this song, too, and it sounds perfect for him. I was surprised when I heard he didn't write it.

So I don't see what your problem is with dr4mus. And no reason to be mean to hippieinboots.

You seem to have some problems, my friend. Be well.

  • Blaze was and still is the man .There is a 2010 release of him the dog years it's a great cd.True poet!

  • @null

Both white guys with roots in Nashville.

Did stupidity sneak up on you or did you open the door and invite it in??

Just curious, or you are eleven?

  • I feel Blaze sounds ALOT like john Prine in his vocals and lyrics.

  • @dr4mus

    You are a fucking, idiot.

    Are you 15?

  • @dr4mus

Did stupidity sneak up on you or did you open the door and invite it ??

Just curious, or you are eleven?

  • love this. very very nice

  • all you can say is really really nice.

  • "Get used to bein' alone

  • One of The Trully Greats In Music!!!

  • its good cause he LIVED this song

  • BEAUTIFUL!

  • I wish he was here today. Can anyone imagine what he would be writing about? He has changed my life when it comes to his music. GOD BLESS YOU BLAZE where ever you are!

  • Blaze is outstanding..... he seems like a complete maniac when he is talking, but then he starts singing..... and everything is clear. It's really quite astounding how he focuses all of a sudden .

  • I am so glad I listened to this one after the many Prine-based covers found here on YouTube. I truly love JP but his rendition did not touch me as strongly as Foley's original.

There is a line JP changed from "trying to hide my sorrow from the people I meet" to "sing a song to the people I meet". As I see it, this is a key line, it should not have been modified. Of course, JP must have had his reasons -- it would be nice to know what they were.

    Thank you for posting.

  • i agree with you. blaze has a certain magical touch.
