The band recorded the song, "Something On", while being stuck in the studio during the infamous ice storm of 1998 that brought havoc to much of eastern Ontario, north-east US, but mostly Quebec. This had an effect on the lyrical content within the song. Such as:
The Hip tour in the US, but I think it's mostly along the borger. They have a huge following in MI, NY, WI, etc. It's true and it is a shame that they aren't more known in the US. The funniest thing was that when Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, some people in the States almost lost their minds when they heard about the song 'New Orleans is Sinking', thinking a Candian band was making fun of the situation, yet Katrina hit in 2005, and the song was released in 1989.
your are right about the fans being in bordering states i dicovered the hip when i lived in buffalo in the earlay 90's seen them six times since now i live in syracuse ny and no one in thes damn city knows them.they can sell out the arean in buffalo aprox.15.000ppl. but here in syracuse they barley sell out the landmark theater aprx.2500 ppl and 90% of the ppl at the syracuse show are from canada, buffalo and rocester and some northern ny towns
They actually tour all over the US... I'm a Canuck that's been living in the US for about 10 yrs, and i have seen them play at little clubs all across the southeast. The last time they graced us with their presence, a local Canadian club had a gathering at a local pub, and the bar erupted spontaneously into the national anthem! Fantastic stuff... anyways, they tour the US lots, and a lot of people make the trek for the more intimate venue.
@dentrems That's very cool to know. I think they have more than enough talent to be known worldwide. It just seems like the Americans I talk to have never heard of them, except through one song. I guess I need to meet more people :)

The ice is covering the trees,
And one of em's interconnecting,
With my Chevrolet Caprice."

I love the end, with about six people clapping. Very lame response. Funny stuff.

You know I've been a hip fan for 16 years but I just heard most of Phantom Power today. I love this song, it's very laid back to me.

I live in America and it is amazing to see so many videos of a band that I have never heard of where I live.
