  • I don't get it, I really don't get it.

PG has to be one of the most innovative/imaginative/progressive (mad as a box of frogs by the way) musician/songwriter/singer/computer software designer/humanist, the WORLD has ever been honoured by the presence of.

And yes, The Beatles gave bands in the 60s the belief that they could write and play their own material, but musically they were derelict, they were the Simon Cowell version of the 60s. A hyped up boy band with no musical merit whatsoever.

  • @808Sumner You're 100% right. You really don't get it.

Here's a hint: the man you just praised has been influenced by them and covers their songs. So much for having "no musical merit whatsoever".

  • @808Sumner -you don't get it because you have an anus for a brain....go die now

  • Une belle interprétation, très agréable et prenante...CPhilD.

  • halfway up the stair....

  • Muppet's

It's called Sarcasm or am I being Ironic?

Go buy "Selling England By The Pound" and you may be half way there............!

  • This is NOT a duet. Kermit has nothing to do with this. This was the first song Peter Gabriel recorded after leaving Genesis. It is from the soundtrack to the film "All This And Wold War II".

  • WTF? Kermit covers the Beatles?

  • These people with their LSD (Monkey joice)

  • this is fucking excellent!!! The arrangements, the vocal sound, the depth.... outstanding!!!

  • You are all retards. You can't figure out that he was dueting with someone. He isn't the one sounding like kermit. What Gabriel fans you are. Idiots.

  • YOU AMERIKANS ALWAYS TO SPEAK OF BAD TO E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G !!!! MR PETER HE NOT TO SANG SO BAD, HUH? IN FACT, MR PETER HE TO SING BETTER THAN YOUR MR BEATLE !!! AMERIKANS NEVER HAPPY AND THINKS THEY TO BE GREATEST ON WHOLE PLANET !!!!

  • @1one2two0724 ehm, I thought the Beatles were british, not american...

  • @1one2two0724 You must live up north.

  • @1one2two0724 if you're gonna have a go at Americans, at least spell it right, and please don't generalize. it only makes you look like an idiot. Also, the beatles is a BAND, not a person. out of curiosity, do you happen to know heaps of Americans? hmmm? or is it just something like "all muslims are terrorists" kinda thing? and while we're doing this whole generalization thing, you must be, oh, i dunno, russian, cuz you cant spell! i like the beatles more than i like peter.bite me.

  • @1one2two0724 If your going to try an insult a nation at least be able speak(write) in their language, also we think we're greatest because we really are...

  • This is on an album called all this and world war 2 ,,,Great copy...only released on vinyl,,

  • Great karaoke version!

  • A terrific version by Peter Gabriel! He never sounded so ghostly as in "Strawberry Fields Forever". PG re-purposed the song, or to point with some humor, Peter Gabriel "early-genesized" the Beatles tune. That's why I think some people don't like this version. The original version is a staple, nevertheless its mixing was a bit crappy, and I agree with Lennon's opinion towards that.

  • i can see john lennon sitting on the piano and composing that sung during i'm listening to it

  • i like gabriel but wtf the beatles r way better

  • @1991Beatleboy its a cover version ,,,,,,,wtf is wrong with it...

  • ugh.

  • I think its a duet with Kermit, thats why the voice changes

  • @sadalite Kermit is that u???

  • the voice is horrible .i must say however i m not an fan from genesis or him but this is completely shit .

  • @tequilamccartney and u dont know fuck all

  • Was this version on the "All this are world war two" film? Todd Rundgren's version is better than this.

  • this is JOHN LENNON'S song..PETE, should have left it alone..

  • Is a kermit crying?

  • I came here to put a comment about Kermit the frog and it's already done

  • what is he singing like that?

  • Hey It isn't easy being GREEN Yeah he used to do this in his early recordings - This was done in the mid 70's wasnt it ?

  • Peter and the LSO , brilliant!

  • whats a kermit?

  • @notntusay hehehehehe :D

  • are some parts a wind up? it sounds like hes messing about on some of it ... this cant be serious

  • wtf....i mean.....seriously wtf!

  • Sounds decent...When he didn't sound like Kermit. :|

  • @DESERVANT XD

  • @DESERVANT haufahfuafhaufha

  • He kept it a traditional version. Where is kermit on say..moonlit knight?

  • Hahaha Kermitt :-))))) ! AHAaHAHAAha

  • i hate the guy he is doing a duet with

    who is him?

  • Soooooooooooo much better than William Shatner's version....

... I know, I know. Be damned with faint praise, right? :p

  • he is stranger here than he was in Genesis

  • @worldcitizenforever i wonder why peter made a song of this "poor beatles". I think that not so poor..

your top could be poor without beatles

    =)

  • Como el orto Peter, me parece que los Beatles te quedan un poco grandes, mejor segui con lo tuyo que estas barbaro :-))

  • @worldcitizenforever Dude you really got serious problems.

  • @worldcitizenforever

why do you go on all beatles video's and troll? fucking spanish faggot. listen to your own shit bands. the beatles have done more than genesis ever will. byeeee

  • @worldcitizenforever

i find it funny you have a top 500 songs, really you spent a day making a list of 500 of favourite songs lol. anyway the fact your calling the beatles "retard gay" shows your not mature and not from an english speaking country because it makes no sense. the beatles have achieved everything genesis have and more, and as much as i like genesis the beatles will be remembered far far far longer then genesis. also stop trolling you faggot.

  • @worldcitizenforever

i clicked on your name to see where you are from, it brought me to your comments. you comment on loads of beatles video's you faggot, you're a jealous troll that genesis are no where near as succesful as the beatles. get over it you fucking retard, i'm sorry but i could list at least 20 beatles songs that are far better then ANY genesis song.

  • @worldcitizenforever

really? so why isn't paul covering genesis songs? is sledgehammer better than imagine? lol there's a reason why the beatles are the best selling artists ever and genesis are not. genesis aren't even the best prog rock band. pink floyd are best prog rock band.

  • @worldcitizenforever

i like pete and genesis, but better than john lennon? no way. the beatles are the best band ever and john and paul best songwriters. not that genesis were not a good band, there were great!

  • Someone must of been pulling his leg , when they told him do this one . Bad choice Pete

  • Awesome! I've been looking for this for years. And, yes, the throaty vocals were an odd choice.

  • I thought it was Tina Turner when i first heard it.

  • Like!

  • This is a funny cover!

  • Fuck this

  • Super peter .:-))

  • Like I said before he sounds so much like Kermit, I swear I'm waiting for Miss Piggy to greddily say "Cranberry Sauce" at the end

  • I've heard worse versions - no one got in to Lennon's head like Lennon. And no one interpreted Lennon's ideas like George Martin. PG has turned it in to something from BeeGees 'Idea'...

  • @judeConnelly lol That is the same guy, don't feel bad I thought it was two guys too. Ive never heard a song where a singer 's lead and harmony vocals are literally trying to out due each other. Its not balanced.

  • People, please tell me there are TWO different singers here ! Or is this two voices from the same singer ??? I'm confused...

  • What an intriguing cover this is. Excellent work by Peter Gabriel, no doubt about it. The song is a little bit smashed by the fanfare of classical instruments, and the use of two voices is strange, mainly because they don't constantly sing together. Voluntary inconstancy ???

  • @becomepostal The orchestral music comes from "All this and world war 2" soundtrack. There are all songs orchestrated/ or introduced with orchestra.

Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didnt.

    Not there.

  • This was his first recorded piece after he left Genesis...

  • @gent11763 Well if thats the case he should have STAYED with Genesis

  • Around 0:20 it sounds like he morphs into Kermit the Frog for a few seconds.

  • shit

  • Ok... I'll be the first to say that Peter Gabriel is GOD!!! ... but is it me, or does this sound like Gabriel is doing a duet with Kermit the Frog???!!!

  • c'mon!!! this is good!!! all of you are crazy!! you are so demanding!! what do you want?? a OPERA?? fuck you...

  • Lame cover.

  • this was recorded when he was still with genesis in the early 70's. this was his style back then.

  • Peter Gabriel, in a bible sense he is my Gabriel; creative, fantastic and... eh... just a role model in creating music

  • this is the worst thing ive ever heard gabriel do.............its embrassing to listen to

  • what the hells going on with his voice. its like hes closing his throat up. I love gabriel, but this is BAD

  • LOL

  • LOL To maxsax2003 LMAO with you

  • thank you lol. At least someone sees where I'm coming from :)

  • waaak¡¡¡¡¡

  • Great version.

Peter is a genious and he pays tribute to the greatest band of all times.

  • And what's up with the overly dramatic harmony and intrumentals. This is waaayyyy over the top. Epic Fail!!!

  • I'm expecting Miss Piggy to say "Cranberry Sauce" at the end. lmao

  • @maxsax2003 OMG this made me LAUGH, LMAO with you.

  • @maxsax2003 LOL agreed

  • I love Peter Gabriel but this is one of the worst covers I've ever heard.

  • half the time its one of the best covers of strawberry fields with the most emotional and awesome vocals ever, the other half I hear Kermit the frog!

  • @AProbableAnomaly the BEST part is reading your comment first then hearing it and then laughing my ass off :D

  • what's that over-fatty voice in the end of the chorus?

  • very under-produced

  • I love Peter.... but, what the fuck man!?

  • nothing is rael........sorry

  • Kermit on drugs more likely

  • UGH!~

  • Hm...he sounds too Genesis on this song.

  • He was Genesis. the best cover of this song, shame it is only half of it.

  • Kermit indeed - t least it sounds like Peter doing all his Genesis voices (this came from All this and WW2in mid 70's - He made it as himself and its not just somone copying or emulating JL. I dont mind this at all.

  • LoL, Trolled

  • i guess its really kermit!

  • who's the other singer?

  • he is like a goat

  • I agree with you. I love him, but he sounds like Kermit the Frog throughout most of it.

  • I have this record, and I'm a BIG Gabriel fan, but I always thought he sang kinda corny in parts on this.

  • Instead of channeling Lennon, try not sucking.

  • This sucks

  • Is this Peter or is it Kermit the fucking frog? Give it up, Peter.

  • @gideonquinn lmfao that made me laugh..so true....hes a great artist tho..

  • nah!

  • for the boy in the bubble

    look under

"peter gabriel introduction and sings paul simon song"

  • Genial!

  • Sounds a little like Kermit The Frog on this one. I'm the biggest PG fan around, so if I can make a joke about it, anyone can. He sounded like this on some early Genesis stuff too.

    He's the man.

  • It sounds like he found the Rainbow Connection while climbing up on Solsbury Hill. Peter's the man.

  • @LiquidLen333 Oh how I wish I hadn't read your comment before watching this...I can't take this seriously anymore.

  • @LiquidLen333 hahahahahahah

  • @LiquidLen333

I cant stop laughing about your comment... smile! ;-)

  • @LiquidLen333 your words describe the exact feeling I had listening to this. You're right.

  • I don't understand why he altered his voice like that. It's all I can hear. It sounds like a tape that's in the process of being ruined.

  • awsome version

  • Although I TOO would've preferred that Gabriel use his "normal" voice here when you get an artist(A TRUE artist NOT the counterfeits who are mistakenly THOUGHT to be artists) of his ORIGINAL temperament covering a classic that NOBODY saw anything wrong with in the first place, I think that in order for him to be able to look at himself in the mirror he has to make THIS as different from the original as possible; and they ARE like night and day.

Flipside Kate Bush did the same with "Rocketman".

  • Peter Gabriel, like Kate Bush, both are real Artists that excell in their field" Music!!!"

Thank you for sharing, and sharing is caring!!

    T Y Buddy.

  • HAPPY to share with an open mind my friend.

The world would be a MUCH better place if ALL had them.

  • Excellent points! Agreed!

  • Thank you.

    Originality ALWAYS finds detractors.

Gabriel was & IS an innovator and like innovators do, he pushed the envelope.

  • Simply fantastic this PG Version...GREAT PERFORMANCE!!!

    Strawberry Fields Forever !!!

    GABRIEL PETER FOREVER!!!

  • peter once was a genius - but this is pure kermit-shit!

  • ...If you don't like this go out commenting in the other place!

I think you are very stupid commenter on this masterpiece at all...

    Go home Prefustupid!!!

  • this is peter Gabriel for sure.

  • I've always been a fan of Gabriel even though I don't think this is one of his best! It's not bad though! Better than Gwen Stefani's!

  • has gwen stefani covered this song???what next ;madonna covering led zeppelin???BTW nice cover

  • Fuck this, you could say this was Kermit singing Strawberry Fields and I'd believe...IS HE SERIOUS??

  • hahahaha that's exactly what i thought!!! :D:D:D

  • Esta versión fue grabada en el 76 y pertenece a " All This and World War II ". Un documental sobre la guerra con canciones de los Beatles cantadas por otros interpretes

  • I don't know about this...it would have been so nice if he just sang it normaly...

  • i think he have got lot of better songs, but yes solsbury hill is realy awesome

  • ben harper, great musician but... I'll say it again Peter is God! As for "one good song-solsbury hill"...

    you've got to be kidding!!

Try listening to some of his music...maybe not this song in particular(lol) He'll convert you!!(smile)

the ones he has written and arranged himself are the best.

  • I've loved Gabriel since the beginning of Genesis but I'm not sure I like this version of Strawberry Fields.

  • Peter is God...yes! I've loved him since old genesis. I know his voice changes,it's quirky, beautiful, powerful and strange. I love that ...usually. However this sounds like he's trying too hard or not hard enough.something not quite Gabriel about it. but what do I know. I'm sure you're both right. I just can't hear it. was he on psychedellics while he sang it? was that the point? I'm trying to love it but it's still kermit to me lol.

  • Peter's never taken drugs though he did have a funny incident with a hash brownie lol. I hear Kermit too...inevitably. But he would have been about 25 here so, slightly different from the "sledgehammer" sound everyone associates him with. Maybe he was just finding his sound after Genesis. But I love it! - His voice is everything you said, quirky, powerful, and beautiful. Peter could sing the phonebook and it would blow me away. I don't know of any other musician with that effect on me ;)

  • yeh I agree, people either 'get' gabriel or they don't, and those who like him REALLY like him, I think he was using one of the voices you hear on this cover a bit at the time, have you looked up "why don't we" on here? Its an unfinished live thing, and you hear something of this voice in that too, though it is amazing and he really should have finished the words and put it out there. Have a look. ;-)

  • finally some admit it... Peter is GOD

  • Yes indeed. Or, at the very least...THE MASTER.

  • The point, of course, is that he was attempting to channel John Lennon. I think he did a pretty damn good job! He perfected his Lennon voice on Imagine - a masterpiece! You can actually feel John's presence in that song. Peter can capture the essence of the other singer. He did a Sting cover and sound like Sting! The tone, inflection, etc. Uncanny! Peter can do more with his voice than anyone else.

  • See what youre saying! Heard the other songs referred to, but theres a whole lot more of Peter in those songs. Adore Peter for the emotional power that he brings to a song. For an amazing cover by Peter, listen to The boy in the bubble originally by Paul Simon. He performed this live at Womad Carlton Park on Saturday. You will see what I mean about the emotional power of the man and why I feel that this strawberry fields cover is lacking. If not, I will agree to disagree respectfully.

  • Am I the only one who can take this seriously as a brilliant cover? Yes, Kermit springs to mind lol, but Peter's voice has always been different and never what the industry defines as 'normal'. Take into account PG was still very young here - But i think it's gorgeous and quite moving...

  • I agree. I think the voice changing helps keep with the whole psychedellic feel of the original.

  • ..he just recorded the voice without working on the arrangments in this song, because it is taken from a soundtrack of the late '70 with many artists singing Beatles' songs...he also said he didn't like the pompous sound of that song..

  • Let me just say...I love this man very much. A gift to this world...no question!

Kermit?!!!... yeah sounds about the best discription. I had to laugh. Glad to know he's not perfect.

  • Why does he sound like he's choking, or channeling Kermit the Frog?

  • PG for president!

  • if i should pick one of the best strawberry field forever cover, i choose PG.... his voice... wooahh dude....

  • agree

  • thank u Josip ...

  • this is rubbish..god...

  • not taking me to real honky trippin.

Lennon the white bois master mind prophet philosopher the music expert. The god.

    Dont critic this honky!

  • I really like this cover, Gabriel is DA bomb. Where did you find the song? did you buy the whole "boxed set" soundtrack to the movie, or did you download it somewhere?

  • infatti lennon non avrebbe mai concepito una roba così elaborata, ma questo è Peter ragazzi, ha reso un omaggio senza rubare niente ... Lennon può solo ringraziare

  • Sounds like young peter gabriel. so it must have been recorded early... seems to me

  • It's from the soundtrack of Lou Reizner's "All this and World War Two" movie.

  • Dear lgsm64,

I didn't find it anywhere, I created it...(mp3+ some pictures...)

  • Was this recorded in '76?

  • I don't really know the date, sorry JIF882.
