He should've been like "SHUT THE FUCK UP BITCH!!! I'm one of the most versatile actors alive today! I'm even quoted as saying that I would be the perfect person to play Ned Flanders."
this guy at the bar is just making matters worse for edmund by being a negative influence, yeah sure he understands his ''problems'' lol, but ed needs to be a man and stop putting the blame on his wife for his fucked up life
there was no passion in edmond's life... then he kind of went off the deep end, looking for meaning.... I won't spoil the end , but this movie intrigued me.... Very dark and different.
His wife is gorgeous. At her age at 40 years old, she has a fantastic body. Look at her abs and butt and she's cute too. If your listening Rebecca Pigeon, look me up. Lol.
Seriously though, this conversation is typical of insecure men who blame their wives for their failings. Edmond looked for all he got. Grass is not always greener. Even the 18 year old waitress - opportunity doesn't always come to all of us. Luckily she divorced him in the end to make room for me.
I agree 100% with lezfriend. If you leave a beautiful wife like her hanging out to dry like that, you're really asking for and deserve whatever bad fate awaits you. This is the first time I saw the beginning of this movie so now I understand why his life went so downhill after that. I would have never ever left her!!!!!!!!
Sadly, Edmond's life went steadily downhill from the moment he walked out on his wife. William H. Macy is an excellent actor, but seriously how could you leave a woman (Rebecca Pidgeon) who looks like that in a pair of pantyhose ?
@JosiahSCooper I realize that, but I could not help but be attracted to her. I think just about anyone would feel the same way, but I stand by my original point that Edmond's life started to spiral out of control the moment he walked out on his wife.
How miserable is selfishness, and how selfish is misery.

If I were the one who saw the two people kissing in the elevator, I would've been like "Hey! Can I join?" LOL

"You do NOT interest me either sexually or spiritually".
A potent quote if ever I heard one in a film.................fate verses choice.
Stunning film.

@wild14me It takes two to tango. This woman is a spider. Its a very American belief to think women can do no wrong..
