I miss Butch. Just listened to "BlackBird", American Baby, Out Of My Hands", So Hungry, Last Stop, and Dreaming Tree where Butch plays. It's nothing like it. I love the rich accoustic sound of the piano keys. Go back and listen to "BlackBird" I bet you'll miss Butch too.
@speilmen230 How unfortunate for you that Dave's taste doesn't match yours. If only you ran the band (The Dave Speilmen Band) I'm sure it would be much better.
I know Butch - took lessons from him for 2 years when he was in a local Richmond, VA band called Secrets. He's an incredibly talented musician - and just and incredibly generous person overall.
One of the things Butch taught me about solo lead is to always sing it. All good jazz musicians do this when they solo
His ability to do this comes from his jazz background and training at JMU. He does it whenever he solos - you just don't always hear it
i can do it, and im not even a keyboard player. its just a matter of knowing how to solo, and knowing where you're going with the solo. its not easy, but its not the hardest thing in the world. Anyone with perfect pitch, which i am not lucky enough to have can do it in a sinch tho lol.

this is awful... thank god butch is out of the band.. he singlehandedly made me hate great songs like Bartender, Two Step, #41, & Jimi Thing.
