wow never knew what that technique was ....Thought i was the only odd ball doing it lol. So much for my lack of exposure . I play acoustic and mostly finger pick. I prefer to let my thumb nail remain longer instead of using a pick. Great for controlled bass lines. Very good lesson i might add ! Thanks for sharing .
i hold the pick between the index and middle finger by the larger knuckle. only reason im saying this is because with that technique you can still pluck notes with all 5 fingers. only i noticed you werent plucking with the pick-holding finger. thanks!
@dotcarmine Yeah they are made of metal that doesn't rust. You must be using Ernie Ball Strings if you've never seen shiny strings before. Ernie Ball= black corroded strings! :)
hey gr8. I was working on some srv little wing today and was doing the double stops with the 2/3 fingers while holding the pick with the thumb and index finder (as usual). This seemed to get the right attack for me. also seems easier than trying to juggle the pick around.
Amazing guitar tone . I recently modded my Peavey Windsor with new tubes , a 12AU7 and a 12AT7, and it sounds just like a Fender! The only trouble I have is I can't set the EQ to sound like SRV. Any Ideas? This question isn't just for Anthony , it's for anybody who can answer it.
Hey Anthony... when SRV was pinchin' he never deposit the pick between fingers, just never let the pick go and add the second finger to grab the E string to do the last voice. Cheers
there is a good example of how stevie hid his picks in srv cover of little wing, hard to see where it goes but he appears have used the same technique
try using you pinky finger for the slide for better reach in your pinch - that way you can hold the root not e works for me. tx for your vidoes - excellent!!!
Great Lessons. As it has already been said, it's fairly common for people to hybrid pick with the pick and fingers, which leaves the second and third finger free for picking. Zakk Wylde does it all the time, and many other players. I can't say of Stevie did or not, but it would make sense on those sort of licks. Whatever works for you, is what's best though.
You must have some big hands my friend. Of course, it is easier higher up on the fretboard, but I find it a little tough lower down in the Aflat to Fsharp range.
Great to see this cool trick in one of your lessons! My picking technique is a bit different; I continue to use the pick to strum down on the lower string and I strum up on the the higher string with my middle finger (since my index finger is still holding the pick).
i have always had trouble with the 1/2 step slide on the G string. When i do it the Eb gets muted. I am trying to hammer on with my pinky instead to keep both notes alive. Work in progress. Tks for the lesson!
I know what you're referring to as I've seen people do it that way. It does sound close, but that sliding sound is a big part of it. That's why I compensate by sliding the note on the E String as well, but trying to not have it as loud as the note on the G String.
A little off topic here, but your fretboard appears really dark on youtube...almost like ebony instead of rosewood. What gives? Do you have an ebony fretboard Fender?
That's called a sucky camera and some poor attempts at color correction in editing. I don't have time to hook up the HD camera for these short lessons, but man, I seriously need to upgrade my other one to something better.

@Jst0911 As with many things, there's often several ways to do it. Mine is certainly not the only way :-)

@gr8bluesgtr your a living version of SRV himself and your much better than I at guitar, so i'd say your way is just fine
