OMG in the beginning of this that was the about the same reaction I had when I first saw this new "Dante" in a game informer magazine. Seriously, I wanted to throw an outburst at gamestop. XD
Or at least if you want to screw with something that's been perfectly loved by fans for years, don't change it so blatantly that nothing left of the old version seems to remain... and modeling new "Dante" after himself? I don't know if that's true, but if it is, that's lame.

How can DMC5 be a prequel to the others considering the fact that apparently the new Dante is an Angel/Demon hybrid? The original was Human/Demon hybrid. The reason why fans get pissed off is because you can't make a reboot of a game, call it the same title, have the main character and yet change the species, the look and the personality of said main character. It's messed up. You might as well just create a totally different game and call it something else.

DMC3 gave us major chunk of his past, DMC1 we knew what happened to his mother, and we got the novels to know more beyond DMC3 about his past. We got enough to know, okay? Whatever is left, is up to the player's imagination. Now this, I'm kinda fine with,if its with a new character, not Dante, or Vergil or even Nero. Can we move FORWARD please?

@theoldkk Actually, a smart person wouldn't change something that's been proven to work. The fans loved the Dante they started with, and Ninja Theory should have used the design that was already given, and the cliffhangers that were accessible to them to make a new game with the original Dante. A very good example of this working is Mario, who has been saving the princess before I was even born, and he STILL get good reviews. They should have used their PROGRESSIVENESS with what they have.

I've been playing DMC for nearly 9 years straight. I play all 4 games over and over again. 4 awesome games (DMC3 is the best though) and now ... THIS? Your “sometimes it has to be done” is bullshit. Saying crap like that is why most prequels to well known games ended up sucking so bad and they'll keep sucking because the Dev Teams reads those comments and think they're doing a good job. If you want to know what Dante was like when he was younger read the god damn manga/graphic novels, you'll learn a lot. Enough with prequels! We want to see the story move on, not move back in time. We already played Dante as teen, now we gotta do it again? FFS

@BloodMoonEclipse I totally agree. DMC3 was the prequel, we have the novels to know more, I want to see what's going on NEXT not what happened BACK THEN. DMC3 gave us major chunk of his past, DMC1 we knew what happened to his mother, and we got the novels to know more beyond DMC3 about his past. We got enough to know, okay? Whatever is left, is up to the player's imagination. Now this, I'm kinda fine with,if its with a new character, not Dante, or Vergil or even Nero. Can we move FORWARD please?

I wanted Capcom to make a true sequel to the past DMC games. Capcom just had to fuck everything up by allowing Ninja Theory to reboot the whole fucking series and making Dante looked like a damn junkie. This series is now heading down the road like the Resident Evil . Capcom can go to hell!!!!!

@theoldkk Actually, a smart person wouldn't change something that's been proven to work. The fans loved the Dante they started with, and Ninja Theory should have used the design that was already given, and the cliffhangers that were accessible to them to make a new game with the original Dante. A very good example of this working is Mario, who has been saving the princess before I was even born, and he STILL get good reviews. They should have used their PROGRESSIVENESS with what they have.

I've been playing DMC for nearly 9 years straight. I play all 4 games over and over again. 4 awesome games (DMC3 is the best though) and now ... THIS?
