Seriously Gods thoughts are not like ours, where man chooses and needs to use brute force, restrictions/limitations and deception to rule one nation, God uses love, truth and creativity to rule the universe. All in all everyone knows one can only receive if they give, you know, you reap what you sow. I'd rather give God my diamond in the rough to cut away at it until its valuable, rather than give satan my diamond for a bag of sand.
I don't know its sort of common sense??? But who knows maybe God isn't for everyone even though He created us ALL, kind of like our parents. Yeah they give us life but its up to the indi vidual to like their parents but one thing you can try but ultimately can't deny is that they gave you life. There's always an explanation yet beyond the explanation there is always the truth

Turn off your TV, radio, i"things" and cellphones for a day. Take a hike or walk (maybe take a book The Bible preferrably(lol)) and most importantly observe Gods masterpiece of pieces, don't forget your part of it. Just breathing alone amazes me! Ahh I can go on and on... Nice film making btw..
I honestly don't get this. Everything this guy purporting to be the devil says is suspect, so why would you base any conclusions on what information he gives you?
1. People have free will. That doesn't mean that God doesn't know what we're going to do. He just lets us choose. 2. In fact, it says that God will create a new Earth as he intended it to be for us to live on. We're not going to live in heaven. You should probably get your facts a little straighter. 3. I study this issue every day of my life. I'd say I'm a deep thinker. I've never discovered anything that has proven the Bible/God wrong.
I don't think this was a good short film at all. Sorry but it's pretty easy to show the thoughts of a dead atheist or of anyone. It would be a black screen from here until the end of time. It's sad that because so many people are scared of death, they would rather focus on eternal paradise dreamt up by bronze-age nomads rather than reflect on the life they do have in the here and now.
even if you believe in God, you have to believe in Jesus too. that he was the son of God and he died for our sins. Jesus said "no one comes to the father, but through me." :)
@Divachixx Remember the things you believe about the Bible is because you presuppose it to be true. In the same way that Muslims presuppose the Quran to be true.
So yeah, True Faith is the belief in Truth itself, Good itself, Being itself, founded upon proofs such as every cause must have an effect. And from what most of us learned in science class hopefully, the Universe came to being from one explosion of matter, meaning one initial cause. Believing that there is no original cause, is an unreasonable belief. And, atheists would say that they are bound by reason, and the believers are idiots?
@P00PJ3WS It's well know that the first cause argument is not a rational one, for the same problem is transferred to the first cause of God. And if God can be self caused, why can the universe not be self caused? And from among competing hypotheses, selecting the one that makes the fewest new assumptions usually provides the correct one - occam's razor.
@tomsokalski Wow, pretty good acting(Devil almost like Robert Downey Jr.), nice editing, great scenery being a barren desert, philosophically you could at least develop a better argument. For example, generalizing all believers as "idiots" is as judgmental as it is wrong. Thomas Aquinas, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, are just a few readings that might benefit you reading.
@P00PJ3WS I appreciate the reading list, I am a philosophy major so I did read all that. I wasn't trying to convince or convert anyone, I doubt that can be done in a short film. The "idiot" remark is there, not as an argument, but as an atheists typical dismissal of religious people, who they consider to be irrational. This is the character speaking.
@BloodOfTheDarkPrince He goes to hell, but only when the devil convinces him it's a place that he would prefer more than heaven. Making it like "his heaven". Whether he tricked him or not, you can decide...
Could I grab your attention for 4 minutes, please? If you enjoyed this short film, I would like you to check out my short film as well. I am a young artist from London, and my short film 'Ashes' is available to be viewed on my channel. It is the first video that comes up.
Please view it and tell me what you think - I appreciate each comment, each view, each feedback.
@fabioloco100 I am very much interested in the technical of film and I wanted to share the capabilities of this camera, I understand that audiences don't care, but filmmakers do I already get quite a bit of technical questions so the note is for them. Thanks!
That's...a little strange... Why is the devil a cross dresser? And why is Hell pictured as some windy dessert somewhere? (SUCK IT! I'M A MORMON AND I DOOOOO BELIEVE IN GOD!)
Being an atheist or believing in religion is like gambling. You have 50% chance of winning. I keep an open mind about it and say God might exist or not. In either case, I'm 100% right. No gambling. But nice film anyway..
This doesn't ask or answer any of the tougher questions. And when it does seem to reach for them it falls into cliche (both atheist and theist ones). Disappointing in that sense.
@Yoctopory thanks for bringing that up. When the atheist asks "which god?" I hoped that line implied, through common knowledge, that there is a vast choice of gods the human species have believed in - none of which the atheist believe in, partly because of the ridiculousness that there is such a vast choice.
Its good and it has a point. Come on, people. Lets be more tolerant about others people belifs, nobody has to be like us with the same beliefs. As long as you belive in something, whatever it is, its OK for you. However if someone else want to believe in other way is fine. I hope you understand me, sometimes Im to short for words.
Ps. Good job, guys, This short film has a good taste.
As a Muslim this video has quality in acting etc... about the story: My opinion is looking into one religion therefore deny God is not really being open minded... But yeah everyone must do what ever he/or she wants...
Hi ,I did not want to offend anyone ,only show you ., as you think ?of course the,, atheists have morals and beliefs,,,and they are wise and beautiful ,of course you are ! but we take this gifts from God! ,not from accident ,and do you seen masterpiece , ,,Pieta ,, of Michelangelo or other work of art .when you see these works you know the they had creator the same is with us .find the Lord Jesus
@kongo4527 yes atheists have ethical principles without the need for religion, of course, and of course great artists like Michelangelo found inspiration from the bible and catholic church, nothing wrong with that, that's wonderful. However, we can equally find inspiration in the sciences, in the vastness and beauty of our universe. And we can find our own meaning in life. Our life and it occurring in our universe is a gift whether you believe in god or not.
@tomsokalski Hi,my point was,-work of art , was established,
created not by coincidence ,any masterpiece must have a creator - After all, we humans we are something more then sculpture :-)) take care Mr.Sokalski
@tomsokalski True you can find inspiration in the sciences, in the vastness and beauty of our universe.....but who do you think put that there? It didn't just magically appear and all the gloriousness and beauty of the universe did not just get "Banged" into existence.
atheists push people away from faith ,in return they give the emptiness of heart and nothing .They think they are wise, pride ,and that they are owe everything of themselves ,that arise from nothing and later they will be nothing again :-)) ,,The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall .goodness and love ,wisdom does not come from nothingness. START from ,,The Divine Mercy Devotion - EWTN ,, use google ,,
Aside from the subject matter I like how it was shot. Great camera work and sound.
If we could just understand that actions spoke louder than words. We're so caught up in language it's unbelievable. Unfortunately there are bigger reasons why we live the way we live with so much conflict and confusion. Meditate !
@bloodeagle22 sorry, top comment changed. The devil's wardrobe is really "out-there" because the devil is a free thinker, free to do anything and everything, the very antithesis of the rule-based conservative christian god. I wanted to express that in the wardrobe.
@tomsokalski Loved the film. Excellent acting, camera work and overall idea. I have but one question. Why is "The devil"'s character dressed so....interestingly? lol
the animation and videography and quality are great, the acting is kind of awkward and phoney. i am curious, are you personally the free thinker or the "christian"
@wwjd0723 My beliefs are irrelevant. I made the movie to be open to interpretation and wouldn't want that interpretation to be skewed by my own beliefs. Personally, I am agnostic with a foot in atheism but I am nothing but happy to hear that some Christians think the devil tricks the man at the end! The ambiguity is intentional because just as we choose what we believe in, our beliefs will hopefully shape our interpretation of the movie and it becomes a reflection of ourselves.
I thought the devil's character was brought out well, however in defining it you made it quite shallow by selecting only one criterion; opposing god. I think a little more depth to the character would have made for a perfect 'devil'. However, I think it was great in the sense that it explored man's need to be 'good' and at the same time be 'free'.(not that they are opposites in any way) And going by the movie, I guess there is a place for existentialism and humanism in hell :p
@tomsokalski Oh yes, the 90's were one of the best decades out there :)
Sorry about babbling only about the credit song, I think your movie is great! ^^ I mostly like the devil. His clothes may be no the best, but his acting is wonderful :)
I hope noboby accually believes that following the devil and choosing hell instood of heaven would mean freedom. Why do you think he asks for the souls of the people? "Selling your soul to the devil!" Does that sound free? What about the light side?: God gave us life and free will in the first place. The point is just because you want to live or show your free will you would have to not love your Father.
Atheism, Secularism, Buddhism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam ... YOU NAME IT are the same in essence ... they all believe in God Someway.
Some believe that it is nature, some believe it is Energy, some believe it is A god somewhere unseen, some believe he is Jesus Christ. It is all the same, and if you think your mind is limitless think again .... A man can not define infinity in numbers how can he define it in the universe?
I say sort out your differences and live like one.
@blaiserfilms thanks for pointing out the obvious, I have seventh seal listed in my tags I know where my influences come from. everyone is influenced, you seem to have been influenced by clockwork orange :)
@tomsokalski ha yes okay, but not obviously. i thought the devil did a great job but im sorry i just couldn't help but feel like this wasn't an influenced film, more like a rip-off. and even if it wasn't, chess with pretty much anything in a short film is cliched. but i figured my first comment was all i really needed to say at the time. notice i didn't say anything negative about the technical side. i never said it was a bad film.
@blaiserfilms i understand, with more experience as with most directors, my influences will become more and more diluted until they will not be perceivable and I'll seem more "original". You're right, the chess thing is a bit of a cliche but a cliche becomes cliche because it's an idea that works unfortunately, making it all the more tempting to use.
@galolito .. i have read the book why i am not a Christian .. and a lot of discussions there .. a lot of confusing part but in the end i viewed it as a tool to realize that there's GOD who exists.
@galolito so i read why i am not a christian, I was familiar with many of those arguments for and against atheism but I did not include them because they were too ridiculously easy to refute such as the first cause argument. However, I liked the latter part of the book which dealt with the negative impact of religion on our civilization but that's another topic altogether, a topic I will deal with in another movie and this book was helpful for that, so thanks! I will read doubt next:)
@TheHueFilms Not sure what you mean by the look specifically, but I used the 7D with Canon lenses f2.8 17-55 IS and f2.8 105mm IS, editing including all the image processing look was done on Adobe Premiere CS3, but that was a year ago, today I recommend CS5 :) Thanks!
Take the risk of thinking for yourself, you might be left alone sometimes but that only means you are the only courageous one. "Much more happiness, truth, beauty and wisdom will come to you." -Christopher Hitchens
@tomsokalski nice. on my shorts i just shot i used a 50mm 1.8, 18-135mm zoom, and an 85mm and ive been wanting to get the 17-55. thank you for replying :)
@BAMF1110XXX Why would you want the 17-55 if you have the same range in 18-135? Unless that lens is not f2.8, or it's too heavy, or not sharp enough.... then I do recommend the 17-55, it's great.
This is sooo great! It shows that even the Devil believes in God! And that if you are in Hell, you are there. No going back. And God loves us, and we have free will to choose what we want. He wants us to choose him, but some don't. Praise the Lord! :)
Very well made and done on an interesting subject, I loved the contrast of the red with everything else. May I ask where it was filmed and on what budget and camera?
@broadvisionstudios Thanks, it was filmed in a sand pit mine, on a budget of about 150$ for the location and costumes - not counting all my equipment, Canon 7D and accessories worth about 8K.
@tomsokalski -I love the acting! Where is Conrad Bergschneider from? I'm shooting a low budget short film and he'd be perfect for my lead. Much appreciation if I could contact him somehow.
@troyessinger appreciate it, but I sent it to some friends on facebook and one of them must have marked it as spam, what kind of friends are these? Haha So now this movie is blocked from facebook, sorry.
Other then some narration problems in the first few minutes of the story, I found this to be visually intriguing and entertaining. The Devil was a interesting Rocky Horror Show meets Joker'esque interpretation of the morning star.
Now My thoughts on the subject matter.
1. I found it kinda funny that if you are and "atheist", may I stand corrected, then making a short film stating that heaven and hell exist kinda contradicts itself. Also, your thesis is to direct to leave room to think freely.
1... If the subject matter related to the humans superior ability to think for themselves then your story shouldn't be so dogmatic. Kinda religiously fanatic'like but thats just an opinion.
2. In my PERSONAL OPINION, your concept on free will is off. I'm sure this short leans towards metaphysical libertarianism, and although I'm no fatalist God give'th free will although he does know exactly what you will do. Omnipotent and Omniscient. Kinda contradicts itself.
2... Free will is given as a metaphor to symbolize the duality that is "right" and "wrong" choices, which are also subjective. The concept of the Devil epitomizes this. God creates angels, no free will, so he must've know and commanded Lucifer to challenge him. In essence he creates all that is good and evil. He, in the end, is alpha and omega. Which is why he knows the tsunami is coming but he don't do nothing about it. He meddle anymore if not for (human claimed!) selfish reasons
Beautiful work with profound meaning. The contrast between the two characters were pushed to the extreme. It would have been simpler just to have the devil appeared in full color instead of an outrageous costume. This is serious work, and I am concerned the devil's appearance takes away some of the seriousness of the message.
Wow... that's some deep stuff. Well now I understand why I can never believe in God. But the thing is, I'm content with being on the outside because that's where my heart feels like it should belong. And it's not bad, just difficult. But it's inspiring as well. But the quote at the end was brilliant. So while I'm not a believer, just understand that I can never be. But at least I can understand why and how you believe.
@CashEnvelope I almost came to that conclusion as well until the guy said something like "none are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free" which suggests independent thought is further above humanism. It essentially gets to the point which is that humanism is still hopeful and united which is comparable to the ideas of religion. But independent thought is the only true freedom, but it is lonely. Personally, I'm cool with the whole being free but lonely.
Great short. Acting and dialogue was spot on! I grazed the question of God on my current short film i'm in process of editing, not anywhere as deep as this conversation, but I didnt want it to be the focal point of the story. (Check out my trailer for it)
Nonetheless your short is quite touching in the subject!
Very interesting film, I'm a Christian myself but I'd like to believe that if someone were to not believe in god but lead a virtuous life they wouldn't be subject to eternal damnation, almost like the take Dante had on the first ring of hell in Dante's Inferno
@blakaxx88 like my boy tim said "throughhout history every mystery ever solved has turned out to be not magic! It’s quite tragic, that children die in Nigeria because people believe in black magic and verses like "Thou shalt not suffer a sorceress to live." Ive done the math and Im on a more healthier productive path, instead of dialogging to myself. You wanna know what gets me pissed this shit can’t be demonstrated to exist. cont...
listen all!!!! this shit hit close to home for me in my state of consciness right now so i peep it check.....intellectuals dont believe in god kuz he demands a touch of oblivion outta u....but in totality everything is nothin, and nothin is everything....so basically that man chose hell so he can think his own thoughts freely.....but in turn, he is goin to be a prisoner of his own mind.......and thats what the devil knows
Great job and fantastic dialog! Thought it ironic that the devil was played by a man named Christian. Reminds me of "Race the devil" BMW film devil character. Long live the DSLR films!!
@markerbull thanks!! love dslrs, technology that good i hadn't expected for another decade. One of the inspiration was indeed the BWM film for sure, at least for Gary Oldman's wonderful performance of the Devil. Devil played by "Christian", yeah, great irony isn't it?
@ThisHaloFan The movie is in no way against the devil or drag queens, the devil's outfit was such only to show he is an extreme liberal in contrast to conservative religious people or their "god".
@tomsokalski Being a transvestite doesn't make you an "extreme liberal".
And I have no idea what you may attempt to insinuate in the sense of conservatism. I only hope you are not attempting to allude to a sense of it being "superior".
@ThisHaloFan I didn't mean liberal in any political way but rather in the scope of this movie. the devil is extremely liberal because he is free to do anything, open to anything, for instance being sexually ambiguous in contrast to the conservative biblical ideas of being straight. The devil is the opposite of everything god stands for which is the kind of extremist dichotomies religions conjure up. What we believe in this life is our own choice so relax no one is saying anything is "superior".
@ThisHaloFan The Devil was dressed like a drag queen, the atheist was in a suit. So the filmmaker using visual archetypes has two extreems of both spectrums, one the drag, and one the business man. Yet both are in Hell. So instead of looking at this as a show of bigotry assholes put on, you might look deeper into the actual meaning of it. Some of the greater misconceptions of anything are by muting one point and exaggerating another, which is what you have just done.
GREAT, o my god! I've seen so much nonsense and shitty dslr films that THIS is really good, i like the debate, but I wouldn't do this sin city effect, Devil's acting was gooood, the other man's also!! great job
@CluelessStranger thanks! The effect is not really a 'sin city' thing as it's been around for a long time but I guess they did popularize it. But maybe you're right, doing the effect was an afterthought, not my original intention while storyboarding. Thanks for watching and giving your critique :)
@KINGQUWAIS thanks, of course I can. I used Premiere CS3, however, it was very time consuming I had to process each shot with those settings several times to make sure the BW was clean, to make sure the color was as vibrant as possible and to ensure that edges of red were soft enough to look realistic. I heard AfterEffects is better for this kind of work, but I haven't used it in so long so I was a bit lazy to re-learn the entire program again just to do this effect, used CS3 instead.
@chessinfantry i wont delete your comment, i believe in freedom of speech. The devil isn't necessarily gay, but yeah he could be as he does have gay undertones for sure and I'm happy you noticed that. The reason for that was to make the devil as opposite to the 'christian god' as possible, logically the devil would stand for everything opposite of the christian go - since Christians generally think homosexuality is evil, I wanted the devil to endorse that - make sense?
@Requiemxtoxinnocence There could be some middle ground, for sure. However, this film was a sort of mockery of fanatic religious beliefs, which often works by setting strict dichotomies to look at life: good vs evil, heaven vs hell etc. I know Catholics for example have purgatory but they are a little softer than most religions - I was more interested in fanatical believers because only they truly believe that you will go to hell for not believing in god despite leading a good life.
@tomsokalski True, this world isn't black and white but full of grey. As for fanatics...I think they need a few hobbies instead of being fixated on their belief system. There is so much in this world that it's a shame they don't wish to discover other cultures and live like they do instead of trying to indoctrinate everyone. Anyway thanks for responding.
Don't meantion it - I've enjoyed it too. I'm always trying to understand about .... well, not so much about theology, but more about what makes people theists. I once read that it is not enough to know what you believe and why you believe it, but you must know what you don't believe and why you don't believe it. I wonder if you would mind if I sent you a personal message sometime? These comment boxes are a bit restricting.
@MrIcarusflysagain Sure, you can send me a personal message. Of course, understand that I'm still in the process of learning all this stuff too, so go easy on me :) But seriously, feel free to talk to me about anything and if I don't know the answer, I'll tell you.
(1/4) Thank you for a well-done and thought-provoking film. May I offer some theological notes, though? They don’t directly pertain to “the existence of God,” but I think they are points that ought to be raised for such a discussion.
1. It is called the Tree of the Knowledge *of Good and Evil*. Adam’s sin was not that he wanted knowledge. He wanted to be like God, knowing good and evil. He disobeyed his order and had to be punished for it.
@hatredapathy52 (2/4) presence; / you hate all who do wrong.” God’s love is not for the wicked.
3. A person indeed must believe in order to be saved from sin. Being a “good person” is not good enough. At the same time, it is a certain kind of belief--one which is accompanied by good works. Good works are necessary but not sufficient. There is nothing a person can do to earn salvation. “You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that--and shudder” (Jas 2.15).
@hatredapathy52 (3/4) get into free will/determinism, because I am not sure where I stand on the matter. I would have to call myself a tentative compatibilist. Suffice it to say that you are given the choice between salvation and damnation in a more-or-less analogous way to having the choice between touching the burning stove and not. Of course God knows what the choice will be. (Read Boethius’s Consolation of Philosophy.)
5. When a believer dies with grace, it is probable that there is nothing
@hatredapathy52 (4/4) more that she would want than to play her harp and worship the Saviour--so to speak.
These matters are complicated, but hopefully I offered adequate theses which someone could pick up on and argue further. Ultimately, I doubt the unbeliever would find it convincing. Nonetheless, I would argue that further *thought* on the matter will show that Christianity is too complicated to be reduced to “only non-thinking people can get into heaven.”
@hatredapathy52 P.S. In other words, "free-thought" is not damnable in and of itself.
P.P.S. I am a believer (and hopefully a thoughtful one), but I did genuinely enjoy this video. The more I think about it, the more I like it ... Anyway, I *really* need to get back to my essay :)
(Sorry to leave so many comments. I hope they are welcome.)
@MrIcarusflysagain "Faith without works is dead" (Jas 2:17). Perhaps necessary and sufficient conditions were a little misleading on my part. In any case, I think one is justified by faith alone, but genuine faith manifests with good works.
@hatredapathy52 I guess what i'm asking is this: If you have been a believer all your life, but have not lived a good life, or done any good, helpful deeds, but on your deathbed you repent and say sorry, does god forgive and let you into the kingdom of heaven, or does he say "sorry is not good enough" and pack you off to hell with the unbelievers? I'm sorry if I sound flippant, I don't mean to be, this is a serious question.
@MrIcarusflysagain Good question. I think it would have to be a genuine repentance and conversion. I don't know how to judge that. God, if there is a God, would know whether or not the conversion was genuine. My personal opinion is that, in the mere fear of death, saying "I'm sorry" is not enough. In other words, a nominally Christian person willingly living a life of sin and withholding apology until he/she is about to die--the last possible moment--is not likely to be genuine.
@hatredapathy52 A fair point, although they would be genuinely scared, and asking for mercy, which, I believe, god is supposed to have in abundance? I guess this question links to the unfairness of a good unbeliever being sentence to eternal damnation. But, if there is a god, he has presided over much unfairness in life, so I guess there is no reason we should expect anything else in death.
@MrIcarusflysagain It all comes down to whether it's genuine. Indeed, being instilled with "the fear of God" is not a bad thing. In any case, it is God's judgement--not mine, not yours, not any person's. Life is unfair. God treats his creation as it pleases him. Human beings do not deserve mercy. God, in his grace, will give mercy to whom he will.
But I think I know where you're coming from. Even I think this is an intensely unsatisfying answer for the philosophically-minded.
@hatredapathy52 Do you mean that they just don't deserve God's mercy? Aren't most of the so called good deeds examples of us showing each other mercy? Fear of
So the Devil is a drag queen?

@tomsokalski Wow, pretty good acting(Devil almost like Robert Downey Jr.), nice editing, great scenery being a barren desert, philosophically you could at least develop a better argument. For example, generalizing all believers as "idiots" is as judgmental as it is wrong. Thomas Aquinas, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton, are just a few readings that might benefit you reading.
P00PJ3WS 1 week ago
@P00PJ3WS I appreciate the reading list, I am a philosophy major so I did read all that. I wasn't trying to convince or convert anyone, I doubt that can be done in a short film. The "idiot" remark is there, not as an argument, but as an atheists typical dismissal of religious people, who they consider to be irrational. This is the character speaking.

Being an atheist or believing in religion is like gambling. You have 50% chance of winning. I keep an open mind about it and say God might exist or not. In either case, I'm 100% right. No gambling. But nice film anyway..

@Yoctopory thanks for bringing that up. When the atheist asks "which god?" Hi ,I did not want to offend anyone ,only show you ., as you think ?of course the,, atheists have morals and beliefs,,,and they are wise and beautiful ,of course you are ! but we take this gifts from God! ,not from accident ,and do you seen masterpiece , ,,Pieta ,, of Michelangelo or other work of art .when you see these works you know the they had creator the same is with us .find the Lord Jesus
kongo4527 1 month ago
@kongo4527 yes atheists have ethical principles without the need for religion, of course, and of course great artists like Michelangelo found inspiration from the bible and catholic church, nothing wrong with that, that's wonderful. However, we can equally find inspiration in the sciences, in the vastness and beauty of our universe. And we can find our own meaning in life. Our life and it occurring in our universe is a gift whether you believe in god or not.

I hope noboby accually believes that following the devil and choosing hell instood of heaven would mean freedom. Why do you think he asks for the souls of the people? "Selling your soul to the devil!" Does that sound free? What about the light side?: God gave us life and free will in the first place. The point is just because you want to live or show your free will you would have to not love your Father.

tomsokalski 2 months ago
@tomsokalski ha yes okay, but not obviously. i thought the devil did a great job but im sorry i just couldn't help but feel like this wasn't an influenced film, more like a rip-off. and even if it wasn't, chess with pretty much anything in a short film is cliched. but i figured my first comment was all i really needed to say at the time. notice i didn't say anything negative about the technical side. i never said it was a bad film.
blaiserfilms 2 months ago
@blaiserfilms i understand, with more experience as with most directors, my influences will become more and more diluted until they will not be perceivable and I'll seem more "original". You're right, the chess thing is a bit of a cliche but a cliche becomes cliche because it's an idea that works unfortunately, making it all the more tempting to use.

@galolito so i read why i am not a christian, I was familiar with many of those arguments for and against atheism but I did not include them because they were too ridiculously easy to refute such as the first cause argument.
Also, your thesis is to direct to leave room to think freely.
cardfreak25 3 months ago
@cardfreak25
Kinda contradicts itself.
cardfreak25 3 months ago
@cardfreak25
He meddle anymore if not for (human claimed!) selfish reasons
cardfreak25 3 months ago

Film appears to conflate humanism with independent thought.
CashEnvelope 3 months ago
@CashEnvelope I almost came to that conclusion as well until the guy said something like "none are so hopelessly enslaved as those who falsely believe they are free" which suggests independent thought is further above humanism. It essentially gets to the point which is that humanism is still hopeful and united which is comparable to the ideas of religion. But independent thought is the only true freedom, but it is lonely. Personally, I'm cool with the whole being free but lonely.
crankspider101 3 months ago
Great short. Acting and dialogue was spot on! I grazed the question of God on my current short film i'm in process of editing, not anywhere as deep as this conversation, but I didnt want it to be the focal point of the story. (Check out my trailer for it)

I think its quite fiting that the devil appears to be a Drag Queen.
It shows the bigotry of the assholes that made this.
ThisHaloFan 6 months ago
@ThisHaloFan The movie is in no way against the devil or drag queens, the devil's outfit was such only to show he is an extreme liberal in contrast to conservative religious people or their "god".
tomsokalski 6 months ago 6
@tomsokalski Being a transvestite doesn't make you an "extreme liberal".
And I have no idea what you may attempt to insinuate in the sense of conservatism. I only hope you are not attempting to allude to a sense of it being "superior".
ThisHaloFan 6 months ago
@ThisHaloFan I didn't mean liberal in any political way but rather in the scope of this movie. the devil is extremely liberal because he is free to do anything, open to anything, for instance being sexually ambiguous in contrast to the conservative biblical ideas of being straight. The devil is the opposite of everything god stands for which is the kind of extremist dichotomies religions conjure up. What we believe in this life is our own choice so relax no one is saying anything is "superior".
tomsokalski 6 months ago 11
@ThisHaloFan The Devil was dressed like a drag queen, the atheist was in a suit. So the filmmaker using visual archetypes has two extreems of both spectrums, one the drag, and one the business man. Yet both are in Hell. So instead of looking at this as a show of bigotry assholes put on, you might look deeper into the actual meaning of it. Some of the greater misconceptions of anything are by muting one point and exaggerating another, which is what you have just done.

@KINGQUWAIS thanks, of course I can. I used Premiere CS3, however, it was very time consuming I had to process each shot with those settings several times to make sure the BW was clean, to make sure the color was as vibrant as possible and to ensure that edges of red were soft enough to look realistic. I heard AfterEffects is better for this kind of work, but I haven't used it in so long so I was a bit lazy to re-learn the entire program again just to do this effect, used CS3 instead.

worst portrayal of the devil ever, why would u make the devil a fag? should be onestarpictures......go ahead and delete my comment for honesty
chessinfantry 10 months ago
@chessinfantry i wont delete your comment, i believe in freedom of speech. The devil isn't necessarily gay, but yeah he could be as he does have gay undertones for sure and I'm happy you noticed that. The reason for that was to make the devil as opposite to the 'christian god' as possible, logically the devil would stand for everything opposite of the christian go - since Christians generally think homosexuality is evil, I wanted the devil to endorse that - make sense?
tomsokalski 9 months ago
what no middle ground? Only heaven and only hell? How about a third choice, for those people who do good deeds.
Requiemxtoxinnocence 11 months ago
@Requiemxtoxinnocence There could be some middle ground, for sure. However, this film was a sort of mockery of fanatic religious beliefs, which often works by setting strict dichotomies to look at life: good vs evil, heaven vs hell etc. I know Catholics for example have purgatory but they are a little softer than most religions - I was more interested in fanatical believers because only they truly believe that you will go to hell for not believing in god despite leading a good life.
tomsokalski 9 months ago
@tomsokalski True, this world isn't black and white but full of grey. As for fanatics...I think they need a few hobbies instead of being fixated on their belief system. There is so much in this world that it's a shame they don't wish to discover other cultures and live like they do instead of trying to indoctrinate everyone. Anyway thanks for responding.

2. Ps 5.5: “The arrogant cannot stand in your

4. I cannot

@hatredapathy52 Where does belief without the good works leave you?
MrIcarusflysagain 1 year ago

Fear of
