Hi Lordjeebs. I was wondering if you could help me with this issue. I'm trying to figure out how to activate the metronome to record my songs. It is driving me crazy and I couldn't figure it out with the manual. Thanks!
7. And the most important - it's not exactly 8-track recorder. Only the first 4 tracks are separate, tracks 5/6 and 7/8 are stereo tracks so in fact it is 6-track recorder.
8. I find Loop effects a bit thin - e.g. reverb has only HALL and ROOM settings.
1. You DON'T need Boss' power adapter - absolutely any 9V will do - you need to watch max amperage though 'cause this thing likes current as much as I like chocolate.
2. Drums actually suck - I import drums arranged in Cubase in WAV file
3. You CAN'T apply FX effects to existing track - you can however bounce the track to a new one with FX enabled
4. Internal mics produce a lot of noise
5. Bass simulator sucks if you play more complex bass lines
Hi Lordjeebs ... I wanted to know if the BR600 is able to produce a final song in mp3 or another format I'd be able to convert to MP3. I need a simple recorder and to be able to get to the finished product (whole song) either from the device directly or with some software with a PC. Thanks!!
Unfortunately, this guy only exports wav and aiff files. But you can use software on your computer to make a mp3. Audacity is a free program that you can use to do that.
@Lordjebbs Thanks for your reply! How good is the BR600 dealing with keyboards? Also, I'm being sold a unit without the power adaptor. Will any 9V will work or I'll need to buy one from Boss? Thanks again!!!!
@Lordjebbs ...just a question was wondering if you could help with...i was curious if the Boss BR600 Digital Multitrack Recorder
is compatible with the roland td3 vdrum kit,...it has midi inputs and so forth..i just got the vdrum kit and was wondering if i can record tracks on the multi with it,..i dont know much about any of it, and i know your a wizard in this stuff,...so yeah any help with this question would be greatly appreciated.
I've had mine for two years but haven't used it much. I noticed today however, that it stops recording me after about 2 minutes and 50 seconds or so. I cannot figure out how to make it allow me to record past that amount of time. Anyone else have this problem?
can you hook this thing up to your computer? I see you have a plug on the top besides the adapter plug? any way to plug it to the computer to get the sound directly into my computer??
@Baby6att you can transfeer your recordings to yout computer, but it is not an audion interface...as so you can't record directly to a program (like Cubase, Sonar and so on...).
"the drum sounds are AMAZING and EASY TO PROGRAM cause you can...!" Seriously, the are not that great and not too easy with creating a drum track either
this thing rescently has done nothing but dissapoint me... first i find it doesnt have phantom power, then i find it corrupts every single file i try to export to the computer, it has regular problems with the card, and i cant for the life of me get any better drums without buying an electric kit. i'm seriously starting to consider the M-audio fast track pro and drum software
@joestaff621 Not too sure why your getting corrupt files.. but as far as the drums go, I use the br-600 for all my recording, including my own drums. I do not use the patterns, I'm a drummer, so I bought a nice set of drum mics, a mixer, and I mix down my drums on the mixer, then send the signal out to the boss in a stereo line-in track. If your a drummer, why not try that? Electronic drums will only give you more freedom, not exactly better sounding drums.. electronic is electronic..
can u record electronic drums on this machine,..i have a roland td3,..curious if i can record tracks from my vdrum kit to this...any help is appreciated,
@HavinSumKindaFun I don't see why it wouldn't, although you might need a power converter if you buy one with a US power supply. I wouldn't be surprised if Boss makes European power supplies though.
Warning. I've owned this machine for years. It works well as a portable recorder, but the tones on the machine as a direct desk are un-usable. The presets, even when tweaked massively pretty much are horrible.
The only bummer is that you cannot use a bigger SD card, only 1GB. I have filled several cards up over a year. They tend to run out of room when you are in the middle of something important!

how do you program it to change drum kits in a song? say i want one drum kit for the verse and another for the chorus how does one do that? the only way i've figured is to bounce tracks to 7/8 then stop recording change drum kits and start recording again. thanks.
@Lordjebbs just google "audacity" and download this free recording software. It allows you to import mp3's wav files etc....and you can then change the speed of the track without changing the pitch....
I own one, love using it, and will probably upgrade to to BR-900 for more input track versatility. The quality is really difficult to beat. I've recorded over a hundred songs, for myself and others... Yup folks..., it's that Awesome....
This goes out to anyone who actually has, or understands one of these things! I wanna get one. Looks like an awesome practice tool. But my question is - how user friendly are these things for those of us that aren't so guitar tech savvy! What sort of speaker/amp set up do you need to get the most out of it. Do you need a bunch of extra cables etc, or is it as simple as 'plug and play'? Last question, can you use power source, or must you use batteries??? Cheers...
Does it have percussion sounds in the drum computer section? Such as triangle, Latin stuff etc.?
The drums sounds one can hear on those videos sound a bit cheap in my view, and I don't think it has to do with YT sound quality. Are there better ones hidden in the presets?
@ChristianPiano89 you can record any instument you want. either with the 1/4 jack or just input a mic. provided you have one. or use the built in stereo mics.
@ChristianPiano89 guitar, bass, maybe electric drums, keyboard, mic, maybe a synthesizer. there might be more you can connect but with the mics anything can be played and recorded
okay, lets say that I have three keyboard synthesizers that I want to hook up to the br-600 so I can edit the gain of each one with one of those sliders. How do I do it?
For a single track, just record over it. If you want the track erased entirely, put your mic and recording volume all the way down and record silence.
i was wondering if this would work for recording / editing in audacity since it has a usb port. since i have my laptop with audicity, my guitar, and my microphone i was wondering if i could power via this and adjust my levels while recording via audacity instead of the br-600 itself.
so can i use my mesa booige amp on this thing or is there like a default sound for each effect? cuz u plug ur guitar into the br 600 so how can u get ur own sound?
Hi, one question, when you are recording a song you need to record drum patterns/arrangements in a track just as recording guitars or voices? I saved a song and the rythm went out of time once I loaded it. Thank you
Is it possible to hook it up to my amp, Boss ME-50 pedal board, and my guitar and record from that. or should i just play and have the built in mics record what i play?
Is this suitable for making metal? Metal which also contains acoustic parts, and drums very different from the grooves i've heard so far, from the BR-600. I wouldn't wanna waste any money, would i?
That's actually what I play. And you can record what ever you want on it. It's just like any other recording device. Not made for one style over another. And as for drums go, you can make your own drum patterns and arrangements and what not. If you want them to be different, that's up to you. Once you get the hang of things, it actually goes quite smooth.
Two questions really, If you plug it in the computer do you need batteries to power it, and can you use the computer as an external storage device instead of a compact flash card?
I don't understand if I can put a drum base on one track and then record a guitar track on it.
If I put one of the drum bases of the br 600it finishes after a couple of minutes. Maybe I have to create a drum base from scratch let's say 5-6 minutes and put it on a track? How can I do that?
I've had the BR600 for two days and haven't been able to do a thing with it. Mind you, I have only used tape recorders in the past. Hopefully I will figure it out.
I`ve had the recorder for a year and have successfully downloaded songs to computer and CD. I`ve cleared all the tracks and songs but the "Card Full" now appears and tells me there`s no more room to record; can I clear the card somehow? or maybe the card is faulty? Everything else working OK. Help, any ideas?
if you do computer recording use amplitube and/or guitar rig; the tones are much more authentic and real to life on the amp modeling. Plus you get very defined tones specific to the amp.
Hey. Isn't the sound better if you buy one of those that records directly too your computer? If i am anyway going to use a program on my PC to edit and mix, should i buy this, or buy the thing that recods directly to computer?
this sound is CD quality I believe - ie you and I could not tell the difference between higher quality recordings (24bit vs 16bit for CD). Units that directly interface to comp. software will record in higher quality though and often have really high quality digital effects processors. This unit is most useful to capture your raw sound and edit via computer for best final product.
I ordered one of these puppies from eBay a week and a half ago, and I can't wait to get it and start recording again. I haven't recorded a song since July 2008 because my old recorder broke.
I've have one for about a year now. The manual that comes with the unit could be better organized. Also, I bought it new and the adapter did not come with it. I had to search online to find and order it. I have two amps and five guitars. I don't bother plugging into my amp anymore to play. I plug into the BR600 and use my monitors or headphones (the cosm technology inside gives me more choices than my amps) All in all, it is pretty good but I'm ready to upgrade.
Can anyone here tell me how to get drum sounds into my br-600? It's all empty, and my computer doesn't take that size flash card. I was so excited to get this, now extremely bummed!!!
Can you use a guitar lead to phone socket then to the amp , I don,t have any other type of leads at mo. The guitar is plugged in to the guitar socket on the br600.thanks.
this product is horrible if you want to record more than 6 tracks for a song. I have been searching online for 3 months now trying to get some answers on how to bounce tracks or record the drum machine onto a track (from rolands and boss's own website and customer service). I've had no luck. a very frustrating machine mainly due to a way-too-vague manual.
And once you get there, you can record another 64 if you want.
You have 8 main tracks but each track has 8 V-TRACKs,. so for instance track 1 has 8 v tracks, track2 has 8 and so on.
I record on 4 tracks, saving 5&6 for stereo BOUNCING, then Bounce 5&6 to 7&8 for the final mixdown.
after I bounce my 4 tracks to 5&6 I use the v tracks of 1 thru 4 to record any extra instruments, then bounce those onto the 5&6 tracks also...you have no limits.
notice to the right you'll see 78v1, means you are recording or BOUNCING to tracks 7&8, you can change this to 5&6 like I do with the cursor and value buttons. Press Rec and Play, and you are bouncing. it is recording what you have on the 4 tracks to 78v1. when bouncing, the track levels are sensitive here if you lower the level while listening you lower it in the recording process.
All you do next, if ready for final mix is scroll the REC MODE button down one more, then MASTERING lights up.
Fizzy. You now have recorded A rythm on 1&2 a lead on 3&4, and bounced to 78v1.
You can now go to 1v2 and record a 3rd instrument or another lead part on top of the 1st...whatever you want to do, or select 1/2v2 for stereo. You can record as many instruments or parts this way.
when you record your playing on the 1/2 v2 tracks or whatever u are doing.
Then you can bounce the Bounce tracks of 78v2 and what u just recorded. just follow the method of selecting BOUNCE on REC MODE button
To bounce record whatever you want onto your tracks. lets say you record a rythm guitar in stereo on tracks 1&2, then you go back and record on 3&4 a lead part.
If you are ready to bounce, After recording those 2 parts now , RESET TO ZERO SO YOU ARE AT BEGINNING OF TRACKS. press REC MODE until BOUNCE Lights up, which should be once.
Ok, for everyone asking me questions, I'm sorry for not answering but expect a video in the near future that will answer some of the questions you been asking. I'll try to get to as many as I can.
you can run it through an amp. On the back of the unit is two RCA inputs. You can use a y-plug to go through your amp. I use two small 15w monitors so I can get the stereo sound when mixing.

Wafflen8er 2 years ago
Is this suitable for making metal? Metal which also contains acoustic parts, and drums very different from the grooves i've heard so far, from the BR-600. I wouldn't wanna waste any money, would i?
Mel0KinG 2 years ago
That's actually what I play. And you can record what ever you want on it. It's just like any other recording device. Not made for one style over another. And as for drums go, you can make your own drum patterns and arrangements and what not. If you want them to be different, that's up to you. Once you get the hang of things, it actually goes quite smooth.

okay, sound nice.
Can i use my own Engl amplifier? So it records that kinda sound it has, or does it have an okay distortion in it?
Mel0KinG 2 years ago
One question really - does anyone actually think this steaming shit sounds good?

Two questions really, If you plug it in the computer do you need batteries to power it, and can you use the computer as an external storage device instead of a compact flash card?

1) uh, yes and 2) no. only to export from cfc).

I don't understand if I can put a drum base on one track and then record a guitar track on it.
If I put one of the drum bases of the br 600it finishes after a couple of minutes. Maybe I have to create a drum base from scratch let's say 5-6 minutes and put it on a track? How can I do that?

i just got mine today and also am only familiar with tascam tape 4 tracks. I haven even turned mine on yet lol

Isn't it better to use a Digitech Mbox instead? The sound is better on that, isn't it? And i can just mix on my pc, isn't that better? :)
jonaso0601 2 years ago
Its up 2 u really. just research them both and see which one u like.

I've decided to buy a Line 6 POD instead..
jonaso0601 2 years ago
if you do computer recording use amplitube and/or guitar rig; the tones are much more authentic and real to life on the amp modeling. Plus you get very defined tones specific to the amp.
RNRDOLL 2 years ago
Hey. Isn't the sound better if you buy one of those that records directly too your computer? If i am anyway going to use a program on my PC to edit and mix, should i buy this, or buy the thing that recods directly to computer?
jonaso0601 2 years ago
this sound is CD quality I believe - ie you and I could not tell the difference between higher quality recordings (24bit vs 16bit for CD). Units that directly interface to comp. software will record in higher quality though and often have really high quality digital effects processors. This unit is most useful to capture your raw sound and edit via computer for best final product.

That's a pre-amp, right? Don't you plug that to the guitar, and then from the processor to the BR?

Forgot to ask also, can i plug my guitar in then go to my amp input and use it as a effect board as such??
Cheers

this product is horrible if you want to record more than 6 tracks for a song. I have been searching online for 3 months now trying to get some answers on how to bounce tracks or record the drum machine onto a track (from rolands and boss's own website and customer service). I've had no luck. a very frustrating machine mainly due to a way-too-vague manual.
Fizzy36 3 years ago
Fizzy,
You can record up to 64 Tracks.
StripingBuddy 3 years ago
notice to the right you'll see 78v1, means you are recording or BOUNCING to tracks 7&8, you can change this to 5&6 like I do with the cursor and value buttons.
StripingBuddy 3 years ago
part 3:
StripingBuddy 3 years ago
Part 4
Yocan piggyback bounces this way.
So I can't see why you think the BR600 IS HORRIBLE.
Record 6 tracks if you want to, then bounce to 7/8v1.
Record 6 more tracks and bounce those onto 7/8v2, and you can bounce 7/8v1 to 7/8v2...now you have the 12tracks you recorded.
See how easy it is.
StripingBuddy 3 years ago
Fizzy
To bounce record whatever you want onto your tracks. lets say you record a rythm guitar in stereo on tracks 1&2, then you go back and record on 3&4 a lead part.
If you are ready to bounce, After recording those 2 parts now , RESET TO ZERO SO YOU ARE AT BEGINNING OF TRACKS. press REC MODE until BOUNCE Lights up, which should be once.

Ok, for everyone asking me questions, I'm sorry for not answering but expect a video in the near future that will answer some of the questions you been asking. I'll try to get to as many as I can.
Lordjebbs 3 years ago
is this the same as the br 900 but without the cd burner?
BeboAltizer 3 years ago
you can run it through an amp. On the back of the unit is two RCA inputs. You can use a y-plug to go through your amp. I use two small 15w monitors so I can get the stereo sound when mixing.
Guitarskunk 3 years ago
Does that br-600 ingludes all the effects what he is playing? If it includes, does it mean that you don't need to have any amps??
22joo22 3 years ago
yer it has all the effects that he plays and you don't need an amp
