  • But can it blend?

  • why would this be better than a mini helicopter?

  • Sounds like my old Dodge Dart when the exhaust fell off!

  • Comment removed

  • its broken

dont worry guys ill turn it on

    OH SHIT!!!

  • This is not scary, this technology is to be used to destroy enemy missiles in orbit, it will become essencial sooner or later, so suspending these programs without alternatives will prove to be a catastrophic error.

  • Weve had flying saucers, now we have a flying sausage. Money well spent.

  • What is the fuel source, please?

  • manhacks prototype ?

  • Looks like the interior of Black Mesa. Too bad it was canceled.

  • Damn, technology! You scary!

  • This is very scary, I almost deficated masonry.

  • This reminds me of the alien's flying objects in the movie "Battle: Los Angeles ".

  • @NutEgg7777 I was thinking the exact same thing!!

  • @NutEgg7777 actually, they where designed based on this device!

  • Now all they gotta do is make a Gundam, call this a Funnel and find Newtype people!

  • I don't understand why people believe this is fake. Look up videos of the M47 Dragon ATGM. It used small explosive charges instead of thrusters to steer the missile to the target and it looks similar to this MKV-L when flying. It's a shame when people think CGI are real. It's an even bigger shame when people think real things are CGI.

  • I'd love to hug that.

  • Dear Santa ...

  • battle la much?

  • WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE!

  • Sounds like a pulse detonation engine.

  • Not cgi. I've personally seen it (earlier generation than this one), and work with people who work on it. It's the same basic technology as the kinetic warhead on the Standard Missile 3.

  • thats called 'garage science' at the extreme ..

  • It's a bit too steady while firing to be real.

  • @maqsad1 I was actually pretty suspicious about if the video was real or not when I first watched it, but trust me, it's real.

  • @johntheactor There is virtually no recoil related jerky movements in any direction while the thing is up. It's CGI

  • @maqsad1 I would assume that that's the point. You don't squander billions of dollars on a missile defense platform unless it's going to be pretty good at course corrections. I'd think that it'd be hard to hit a missile with an object when you can't even compensate for the thrust from a rocket engine firing.

  • @johntheactor I was referring to the recoil from the bullets being fired not the thrust of the rockets. I'm assuming it's close to impossible to simultaneously fire bullets in opposing directions which is the only way that device could accomplish perfect jitter correction

  • @maqsad1 Oh, I see, the misunderstanding is that it doesn't fire bullets. It's just a platform for delivering the twelve or so smaller kill vehicles (the white cylinders) attached to the device after being launched from an antiballistic missile platform on the ground. Its main goal is to get the smaller kill vehicles close enough so that when they're launched, they can make a hard kill on nuclear warheads by direct kinetic impact. I thought it was CG at first too, when I didn't know what it was.

  • @maqsad1 Well, since it doesn't look like CGI and in my world is technologically feasible, it is is of course real.

  • @emilen2 I wasn't saying it's not technologically feasable. I just thought that it was a CGI rendition rather than original footage. For whatever reason they may not have been allowed to show actual footage due to security reasons who knows. It just looked more CGI than real.

  • @johntheactor its real..Japan USA,India,Russia..all can make these items now..

  • Wow. How about "no", Scott?

  • The Nazis probably had this in the 40's.

  • how is this supposed to catch a missile in-flight?

  • @johnnyex This is a thruster test. Basically, moving left, right, up, down. In space it would be going forward while doing these maneuvers as it approaches the threat.

  • @cmatos2007 oh, I didn't realize it would be operating in space

  • couldnt they use this on a larger scale like on a small manned vehicle or would it take too much fuel?

  • that fucker has got to be SO LOUD

  • People complain about this being a waste of Taxpayer Money, but come on. What are you going to do when a real war breaks out? Whether you like it or not, things like this are necessary.

  • ITS THE WEDGE SHIP FROM BATTLE LA!

  • @IAmDivie lol ur right there similar on what the ships were usin lol

  • realize you're talking about the people who risk their own lives so you can sleep at night and utilize the resources they work towards.

  • America, with all of it's resources and money, spends time with bullshit like this. WHY? WHY SPEND IT ON WAR?! The amount of opportunities that are being flushed down the toilet just to make new weapons sicken me...

  • Waste of taxpayer dollars.

  • its remind me to ufo engine

  • @soylentgreenb how the hell was I suppose to know the MKV went several kilometers per second? Was that in the description of the video? I think not! But congratulations on being a expert on some shit nobody gives a fuck about. And I was just trying to crack a joke with that comment! I don't give a fuck about that stupid ass RC plane. Unless I could fly one up your ass. Go fuck yourself!

  • This particular design features a bundle of smaller interceptors around the central kill vehicle, which are released and then pick their targets intelligently with the aim of improving the chance of a successful intercept.

  • The way it works is simple. To put things in layman's terms, the payload is mounted to a rocket and launched into space much like any satellite. Its trajectory is set to intercept an incoming ballistic missile warhead. The reason why this thing doesn't need to go forward or backward is because it's already on a ballistic trajectory. All it needs to do is use its sensors and thrusters to match the trajectory of the incoming warhead and crash into it. Poof, no more nuke.

  • I'd like to clear up a few misconceptions. First off, the cameras are shaking because each pulse from the thrusters produces a shockwave. They're not being held by human operators standing outside the safety net; if you were that close, the damn thing would rattle your brains. Second, this thing is a prototype for a ballistic missile interceptor payload.

  • That pice of shit!!! The only way tha crap will stop a missle is to fly in front of it. And I doubt it can even do that.

  • @Chopper1217724 Use you brain. The incomming warhead is going several kilometers per second, this is going several kilometers per second in the opposite direction. These itty-bitty thrusters just do the final guidance to intercept the target.

  • This is the fastest typewriter machine I ever heard.

  • George Lucas wants one !!!

  • That's what was prob flying over the dome of the rock

  • Looks like CGI. Still, frozenpyre, you have no fucking idea what technology is possible.

  • America really wants a new arms race, CIA must be getting bored of chasing imaginary terrorists.

  • Coming soon to hunt you down in the street for a crime you don't understand.

  • tax dollars that could be going to us. and our needs. like glasses food dental.

  • That is so cool

  • @timfosho

Because technology like this is definitely impossible today, let alone in the eighties. Rockets that launch things like satellites into space? Complete rubbish.

  • @timfosho its not cgi, they just used a shitty camera, this thing exists, do some research before you make assumptions and post them on YouTube.

  • @mrkrabz1991 You are right, i am sorry, I have violated Youtube's rule of posting assumptions...

..btw its definitely CGI, its pretty obvious. Something like that could exist, but this is not a video of such thing/

  • OK, First the design is horrible, the thing can't go forward or backward, only up down left right, second its inside a rope cage and yet its clearly shooting out a jet flame, that would light it on fire. The jet flame looks fake, the rate at which it is burning at would make this thing fly through the roof, not hover in one spot, thats how a jet works. And finally, whats the reason for the camera shaking besides trying to make it look more real. The terrible design gives away that its fake.

  • @timfosho The burning isnt constant. And the camera barely shakes at all. It could easily have a rear nozzle.

The biggest problems would seem to be noise and fuel requirements.

  • @progress200 even then, it would kinda go up and down even a little, but instead it stays at the exact same height the whole time. Also you're right about the fuel, and using a jet like that for hovering purposes just doesn't make sense. And once again, the design is horrible, the thing has terrible maneuverability

  • @timfosho Well, they could do this almost 20 years ago:

    v=JzXcTFfV3Ls

  • @progress200 no practical

  • @timfosho In fact, the thruster isn't firing the whole time. It's only hovering. If it did have a continuous acceletarion, it would go up. And there is nothing that tells you that the rope cage is made of flammable materials. (although this smells like CGI all the way)

What people watching this didn't realise is that this is supposed to be carried by a rocket and use this baby to kill a ballistic missile and it's penetrating aids.

  • That would be a nice surprise..a terriost opens his birthday cake box and this pops out and clears out the room

  • Now apply the same principles ..make the shit round invent / discover a good source of energy .... and voila UFO's :)) no need of pilot either ..

  • That place fucking reminds me "The Cube"!

  • WOW. it looks animated doesn't it???

  • Reminds me of G-mod.

  • That thing is trigger happy. I think it is playing Cod.

  • so does this actually exist or is it all just computer generated like the video above?

  • @Fuzen15 You need to clean your bifocals, the video is easily discernible from any CG material.

  • @Fuzen15 This WAS a real program but the Obama administration terminated it.

  • Lol compare this with the Japanese variant

  • '

why why this videocamera shake shake,,,

how come not hold STILL a videocamera

  • Videos like this, impressive as they are, always make me think about peak oil. Is it me or are we acting like we aren't running out of oil? As I understand it we'll run out of oil in under a century, right? Bringing our entire global infrastructure to a halt, starving billions and, if you're pessimistic/realistic, killing much of the rest in war. Am I imagining it or are our governments building weapons to fight those wars and keep survivors in line? Tell me I'm paranoid, I want to believe you.

  • @Dopplershift

If your implying that this thing is burning petroleum based fuel, I think it’s safe to say you’re wrong.

  • they should use these against the taliban

  • @thomas242007 its used for missile defense. its not a freakin landmine

  • It looks like it's FRIGGIN' SHOOTING TO GET AROUND

  • At first I thought it was in GMod.

  • @MrJIsBack loves it

  • Comment removed

  • What exactly was the military plan for this thing? Send it into terrorist encampments a just watch as they shit themselves in terror?

I'd install a camera if that was the case.

  • I was able to talk to one of the engineers on the project recently. Pretty neat stuff

  • i want to make one.

  • Comment removed

  • what in the hell is that thing running on? I bet these guys have secret fuels they have developed and discovered that they are not telling anybody about

  • @1982FMJ obviously a hypergolic. probably monomethylhydrazine or 1,1-dimethylhydrazine plus dinitrogen tetroxide.

  • why's it obvious

  • @1982FMJ because

    1) it is reliable, simple and robust

    2) proven to work in similar tasks for decades

    3) noticed those reddish-brown "puffs" here and there, comig out of the vehicle? those are nitrogen oxides

    4) it's...logical. well for a chemist at least I guess.

  • is that some kind of controlled enviroemtn it is in as it keep reterning to its docking station. is the enviroments gravity controlled or something? Just thing of the things they have they don't tell anybody about or talk about to anybody

  • @1982FMJ It's designed to work mainly in the upper atmosphere, but regardless - it's launched from a missile, then using those thrusters it maneuvers into position and fires a kinetic projectile at the incoming missile, destroying it.

The difference is that it can then turn around or move around in order to get into the path of another missile and fire another projectile at it at as well. Advantage is that you can get more use per missile, meaning you can deal with more threats at once.

  • @xero993 It works outside the atmosphere and it doesn't fire a projectile, it IS the projectile.

  • something out of the terminator movies

  • Apparently the issue with that thing is gonna be fuel.

  • wat

  • That could definitely fly through a popemobile window

  • was it shooting or flying

  • @mistysvenger007

Its flying. Being that it can spurt energy in any direction at an instant(which is what those jets of flames are) it can outmaneuver ANY missile by far because it can turn instantly and smash into the incoming missile. Future rockets will have 10-20 of these that will disassemble from one rocket and chase after 10-20 missiles.

  • i see, only a problem when it can be made to fly in excess of 35tonnes

  • bubbling?

  • I just want to use this to go back into future and bang my mom

  • This thing is bad ass.

  • holy shit

  • i want one, very very much

  • noclip. noclip! NOCLIP! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY ISN'T NOCLIP WORKING!

  • Fuck missile defense, just send it to the front lines and scare everyone shitless.

    Mission Accomplished!

  • Steadycam by Michael J Fox.

  • @t22bc holy lol

  • @t22bc You are wrong.... Hilarious , but wrong...

  • that thing is so quiet and stealthy

  • @james2rocks I'm not sure missiles care how quiet and stealthy something is.

  • This project has been canceled thanks to the Obama Administration.

  • @Kecidek yay go obama

  • companion cube! nooooo!

  • What the fuck is wrong with you people? The Great One gives you science and instead of making mega-LSD and blowjob machines you create shit like this! For shame!

  • @FSquid How is a hovering pod that belches flame not Bad Ass?!?!!? Still I admit that mega-LSD and/or a blowjob machine would be equally Bad Ass......In fact I would be happy to test this blowjob machine...if you happen to have a prototype.

  • @FSquid You won't be complaining so much if your car was powered by one of these!

  • Welp.

  • Hey great now you can use it to kill more innocent people

  • @zmsquee this thing is developed to intercept nuclear ballistic missiles and to save innocent people.

  • if it can do that in full gravity, it will be killer in less gravity.

  • What fuel does it use? Hydrazine?

  • I thought this was Garry's Mod for Half Life 2 for a few seconds. Impressive!

  • With this I can shoot down the news chopper that wakes me up every morning.

  • ok scientists whatever you do dont give this robot the ability to think for itself

  • Yea I really don't get it..what is that?

  • I don't get it?

  • almost looks like someone went hardcore with gmod...

  • I want to know EVERYTHING about this O_O

  • @cubezero01

i work with the people who made this. I saw the unit at my work. I can answer basic questions as long as it is not sensitive or classified.

  • @Dittlelifferent For what situation is it used for? Like where is it suppose to be used?

  • email me. Its not good that everyone sees.

  • @cubezero01 It's a warhead killer. There's a video in the related video list called "ABM Multiple Kill Vehicle (MKV)" that explains exactly what it does. I think the MKV in this test is the MKV-L.

  • hale.. magic bullets

  • what the hell is going on..at Lockheed Martin..

  • Look's like something out of Gmod.

  • Waste of money!

  • Hahaha,it flies by shooting the ground!(yes I know it really doesn't,it just looks and sounds like it...which makes it infinetlly cooler)

  • Valve is involved with this project.

  • soon enough we'll see the robots from portal on youtube lol

  • @boognish1975 people who use the term, fukkin are fake.

  • Why would you say it's fake? Do some research, google makes it pretty easy

  • Mmm... popcorn! That flies! And takes out missiles.

Thank you military. I needed flying popcorn of death. I will purchase that at Walmart next year.

  • @mattofasia Would you like butter or bullets with that sir ?

  • Stealthy? well...

  • The Multiple Kill Vehicle (MKV) in spite of its name doesn't kill anything (unless you drop on on your head). It intercepts and knocks down incoming missiles (designed to kill you) by sheer inertial - no explosives involved.

  • @truthlocker

Sort of. I think what they meant by 'kill' is that it terminates incoming missile threats; i.e., it kills the missile. They drop multiples of these (in clusters) to intercept multiple threats.

  • it's actually filled with warheads, not just pure kinetic energy

  • That makes sense. I guess to make sure they detonate the missiles, yeah. Thanks for the info.

  • If it's exo-atmospheric which I believe this project was then it uses kinetic energy alone. They are called kinetic warheads so that might be the source of your confusion.

  • All this money going into killing machines instead of real science.

  • Obviously you have no idea how many of the modern everday applications started off as means of killing something.

  • @Rectu Yeah slave. You dont deserve a Hover car.

  • @Domisterwoozy It doesnt kill anyone despite its name

  • This reminds me off that old game "Lunar Lander".

  • Imagine the tech that goes into making that many adjustment to flicht every second.... Amazing

  • I want one.

  • I built six of these that came with my K'Nex homegrown invasion defense kit last Christmas to protect my toy pom XD

  • I realize what it kills looks to be a lot of people's time and money.

Not seeing any warheads in this video... what exactly were you watching?

Dense people around these Defense Department videos....

  • ... If you're suggesting we do NOTHING instead, then you are indeed correct in assuming that there are "dense people around these Defense Department Videos."

The technology is in its infancy, but it will only improve. I'm sure you understand that in military technology, a measure is taken, a weapon is made. Then a countermeasure is devised to defeat it. Then the weapon is upgraded, or a new weapon is made. It's called "development." Or would you rather technology become stagnant?

  • With something like this you don't need a warhead all you need are ball bearings in orbit a ball bearing does a lot of damage. Just drop them in the path of your intended target and move off let it come to you.

  • @ baguazhang1

"Not seeing any warheads in this video... what exactly were you watching?"

Naturally, you don't implement a multi-million dollar project without testing it. This is a test to see if it can track a target while maneuvering as it mentions in the video description.

    Dense people indeed.

  • you do realize that what it "kills" are incoming warheads that disperse from their rocket right?

  • Real Life GMOD :P

  • This thing looks like something you'd find in a lab at Black Mesa
