  • I remember this day, i was in the launch

  • It's like me when I have to go on toilet.

  • simply awesome! very nice...

  • what a shitload of energy spent...

  • @350kph Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit load of energy was spent.

  • i dont know why but im afraid to get out of the orbit

  • Nasa, how do I enlist?

  • Wow awesome launch

  • woohooo

  • Why NASA's shuttles cause a lot of smokes unlike the Russian Soyuz?

  • @Izkzmach The Space shuttle itself causes no smoke because it's 3 rocket engines burn liquid O2 and H2 which only creates steam aka water vapour. The smoke is created by the SRB's (Solid Rocket Boosters) which burn Iron oxide and Aluminium power. This produces about 20 tons of carbon dioxide per launch. The Space shuttle is being decomissioned this year to make way for the new ships that utlize plasma based propultion.

  • @NANOFORGE That is a complete fabrication. There are no plans for any plasma-based propulsion system to be used on any spacecraft, let alone a manned one.

  • @Tyrannobeast Funny that because there is a retired astronaut working on plasma based propulsion systems as we speak, there are also scientists working on laser based propulsion aswell. Shall I continue?.

  • @NANOFORGE I don't know about you, but I'll clarify. Despite the fact that VASIMR (which I assume you're referring to) is practically operational and laser propulsion is an interesting development, there are no plans to utilize either on any spacecraft.

Although I'll admit I definitely misspoke about Ion propulsion, as it's already in use. However, there are no plans to use it in manned spaceflight, unfortunately.

  • @Tyrannobeast I see, sorry If I seemed like I was starting an argument. VASIMR is being tested on the ISS soon, if not it already has. Yeah at the moment NASA has no plans for manned space flight as they simply don't have any manned spacecraft since they have decomissioned Atlantis. Hopefully in the near future NASA will develop new manned spacecraft which do utlize plasma laser propulsion and we can we can travel to the moon or Mars or even further.

  • @NANOFORGE I read about that, hopefully VASIMR'll get to flight-ready status soon. I'd love to see people go beyond the asteroid belt in my lifetime.

  • @Tyrannobeast Space vehicles are fast enough yet though, New Horizions is the fastest currently but even that took 4 or so years to reach Jupiter. Current space propulsion simply is'nt advanced enough for long distance manned missions. Vasimr is looking promising, they say that a spacecraft with 7 or so of these could travel from Earth to Mars in 6 weeks rather than 6 months with current menthods. Problem is NASA has lost funding, personally they should have more, the things they could do.

  • @Izkzmach Sorry thats Aluminium Powder.

  • this gave me the chills....

  • i was there is was awsome

  • i wonder how it lands?

  • such a shame it's all coming to an end. I for one think this is sad . please go to facebook abd search - lets go back to the moon

  • Half a ton fuel per second, that fuel tank must be enormous?

    This is amazing.

  • @might19 Those are the SRB's burning that much fuel, and it's solid fuel and housed in the boosters themselves.

  • thank you for sharing. great

  • wow!!!! science.... i wish newton could see this!

  • Boring.

  • bra!

  • i love this video !

  • 9:18 just blew my mind.... wow!

  • i saw it was amazing and a once and one time exprince

  • god, love this video. feel's alot of things.

  • I just lurrvvvee the sound of main engine start!

  • no-one will smake these idiots and they are not dumping

  • @GSRFORSALE916 I'm more hopeful it comes around and smacks a clue into your head.

  • Comment removed

  • @GSRFORSALE916 And I hope your on that shuttle.

  • We only have 5 flights left.. so I doubt that.

Well, at least I don't try to sell my car on youtube.

  • LOL. 5 more chances of blowing up good work. My car should be least of your worries, just be more scared about I told you so.

  • actually if you did your science we are running out of water to drink and we need a new planet as this one is getting to small and is almost destroyed by global warming, you are an idiot

  • @hawkmoth11

running out of water to drink. Yea right. I have snow outside come plow it and have all the water you need rascal!

  • if you havn't noticed we are running out of sterile water (water which wont give you a desese) this is scientific fact, dont be an ass we ARE running out of drinkable water and it costs millions of pounds to make it drinkable, unless your going to do some re-search cut the stupidity out your just making yourself look very silly

  • Well.. I know enough about space to know your waste of it.

  • Happy thanksgiving to you too.

  • you idiot

  • they are doing experiments on the international space station if u didn't know....

  • Imagine being on that space station...and witnessing a nuclear war on earth(Hopefully never!), marooning you aboard the station...FOR EEEEVEEERRRR o.0

  • well it would be good if there was an ice age when you where up there :D safe and sound

  • Hey I saw this from the Nasa Causeway...great view...really, really loud!!

  • 0:23 discovery says: lol shut up

  • I SAW IT FROM LONDON (:

  • london... where?

  • essex

  • thats not london

  • Incredible!

  • Awesome

  • Brilliant launch. Good luck to all for the rest of STS 128's flight!

  • bon voyage discovery.

  • from 6:00, whats the flashing light? Looks like an aurora??

  • Just the engines firing...........

  • Sändes det här på TV? Kommer ihåg att jag satt klistrad framför TV:n första gången han åkte ut... mitt i natten. :D Tyckte det var jättehäftigt! :)

I'm too tired to write in English. :/

  • fluglesang coming from my home city ;) <33

  • Yes

  • Is this the one with the guy from Sweden ?

  • Yes, Fuglesang.

  • where did they go??

  • iss .

where they hide every thing from us

  • I saw a BIRD at 0:48 sec The bird could be eaten at this temp LOL

  • At the VERY start of the video, a fire is seen clearly about half way up the gantry, but when they go in close (from the other side) the fire seems to have gone out. WHAT IS THAT FIRE.......? I am really curious...... Awesome vid btw..:)

  • The flame makes it look cooler, because the more flames you throw into a rocket launch, the better.

  • I would have thought a naked flame seemingly THAT close to the gantry with all that liquid propellant b4 a launch would have been a slight safety hazard......

  • It's NASA, they have all angles covered

  • Its just the camera angle The fire is the hydrogen burn stack. Its a 100 yds or so from the pad.

  • sow perfect...

  • straight up no chaser!

  • thanks for sharing, go NASA!

  • One day I hope to be on a shuttle going to space

  • @Nasjaboy sorry to say, but later this yer, the space shuttle is gonna retire :(

  • @Nasjaboy i use to think about wanting to do that too. too bad it was canceled =( maybe it'll restart! don't let your dreams die!

  • thanks for uploading the HD-Version :)

  • i live in the Philippines but i was able to watch the countdown to zero through the NASA website. it felt so great! :D

  • Its not in HD ?!

  • takes youtube a while longer to encode HD verisons, i think

  • Great Launch !!!

  • Amazing quality, love it.

  • yup :)

  • gotta admire those Americans...

  • do the fuel tanks go back to Earth? If do, how?

  • The fuel tank, or "ET" External Tank, the large orange tank burns up on reentry and is expendable. The two Solid Rocket Boosters (SRB) are recovered at sea, refurbished and re-used.

  • @CessnaDriver2: the two SRBs separate a few minutes after liftoff while the ET separates at 9:18 in this video. after all these separations, the shuttle will start maneuvering on it's own towards the ISS and until reentry to earth.

  • they land on the sea...

  • They do eventually from gravity and they just burn up in atmosphere i pressume. Unless they manage to orbit lol

  • At night, it's much powerful and so bright but Why At Night? Any answer?

  • Maybe for reching ISS's orbit sooner?

  • Because of two launch delays, they needed to take an odd angle (up the east coast) and launch time.

  • maybe its the most desirable time weather wise?

  • The need to intersect the plane of the space station's orbit in order to catch up and dock with it. 11:59PM happened to be the time of day that happened.

  • cool, watched it live :)

  • me too! Night Launches are pretty :)

  • So Crispy Good luck to all the astronauts. Complete the ISS and we could finally change plan and go to MARS!!!

  • This was so awesome

    Chris
