This stirs the ~1/4th of my soul' that happens to come from Finland (their name was Kivisto). Perhaps this affinity helps explain why I'm more affected at the level of my soul by drony, vaguely-eastern-y kind of music than I am by other musics that I also love.
I love this, I'm of Finnish descent (my Papa ja Mummu) were from Jyvaskyla and Turku. My father is fluent in Finnish and I know just a few words, mostly about food.
I love learning new things about Finland, its culture and history - it's so interesting. Thank you, for posting this great video, it's really well done.
@azmhyr That yoik is sami nation's tradition - a bit like in England there's celtic music along with the majority anglo-saxon music. Though in england they are more mixed.
This song is about one of the seven deadly sins, sloth. It's about a man who is too lazy to get up from bed on Sunday morning to go to church. The Devil whispers to his ear, encouraging him to continue sleeping, saying that he can serve the Lord by sleeping. The devil fails to mention that after death, such slackers end up laying forever on a mattress of worms... Search for Räikkä, if you want to see more!
@unski13 That's a proof that Christianity equals Slavery ^___^ "You must go to the church, or you'll die." Way to go. The true religion of love and peace. :-)

Well, while it is fine, I cannot help but think of Monty Python.

I laughed so hard when I first heard the name Hurdy Gurdy. Still better than the Digeridoo I guess xD

Why aren't they in the kitchen, roasting me a boar and stirring honey into my booze while they warm it. Lazy wenches.

Löytyykö Suomesta ketään kiinnostunutta soittamaan keskiaikamusaa? Yksin on niin kurja soitella, kun voi soittaa vain yhtä soitinta kerrallaan :D

Too bad the lighting obscures the instruments. Isn't that a hurdy gurdy?

Now this sounds authentic. I watched a few videos that were purportedly medieval but sounded more like New Age music.
I had buddy who was part Finn. She helped me cultivate an appreciation of Finnish culture.
