@henrycaville henry you info does not sound accurate. ive been hanging aroung kates careers for a long time now and i never heard anything about the remastering, and the demos will never be released officially. The only one that made a release was remastered in 1980. kate was said to be really embarrassed as she is such a perfectionist- hence years between albums- that these surfaced against her will. But the idea is a great one if EMI did it i would buy it!

@henrycaville I suggest you do some research yourself, little boy, and stop relying on Wiki for everything. 90% of the crap on there is incorrect. The only album that was slated for remastering was Hounds of Love, which is was in 1997 for the EMI Centenary, along with other albums from different artists. The only bonus tracks on it were previously released B-sides. The stuff you're talking about was never planned. It was a rumour that got started on a certain forum and got out of hand.

From "Hounds of Love" (onwards), everything was recorded in her home studio (that she built after "The Dreaming"), so who knows what a treasure-trove of "gems" she has lying around in her private home studio (from 84-09), that no-one can access but her.

Why it was not released?

Since she is rumoured to be perfectionistic about her work, my guess is that she probably is reluctant to release someting, that she do not consider finished.

But who knows. Perhaps if enough requests are sent to her and EMI, things could happen?

I guess the reson was that the record were almost ready for mastering when she came up with Wutering Heights and EMI recognized that was a hit so the "stopped the press" to fit it in and had to drop a few other songs for it. I guess this was one. (from a book of Kate I used to have, my sister stole it I think. :) )

Really? I thought that EMI wanted "James and the cold gun" to be the first single, but that Kate Bush herself pushed EMI to release "Wuthering Heights" instead.

With that said, it is not unusually for an artist to have a wide range of acts , where only a few are selected for the record. In the case of KB, she already had the songs for her follow-up album premade.

Perhaps the problem is the contract with EMI. Her first two album was made on a direct contract with EMI, thus they owned the songs she made. When she became independant, she may have lost the right to her early songs?

You're correct. EMI did want "James and the Cold Gun" as the first single, but Kate said no and demanded it was "Wuthering Heights.

As for your second comment about Kate's contract with EMI... Kate owns the copyright to all her songs, not EMI. She has complete control over her music and how it's used. That's why you don't see millions of 'Greatest Hits' CD's being put out over the years. Kate calls the shots, not EMI. Otherwise there would be a million 'Greatest Hits' CD's out.

Still. The terms of early contracts may very well still be in effect. I have not seen a reliable source, telling that her very early songs was released from her first binding contracts with EMI.

There's a difference between owning the copyright to the songs and owning the master recordings. Although Kate owns the publishing rights to all her songs, EMI owns the master recordings for the first two albums, up until she renegotiated before recording and releasing Never for Ever.

Kate is really overdue for a rarities box set or compilation of all the random demos, remixes, alternate takes and unreleased songs collected throughout her career. One new album (what is it, every *12* years now) just ain't cutting it, no matter how brilliant the output.

This song sounds as good as anything else on "The Kick Inside"...should have at least been a b-side!
