Otto Frank survived b/c the Nazis were on the run, and they took the stronger prisoners with them, and left the others to die. He was liberated before that happened. The book Nazi Doctors: Medical Killing the Psychology of Genocide is a good source. Otto Frank and Elie Weisel survived in the infirmary b/c the Nazis sent people to the infirmary for treatment to be able to work, but there was little real medicine. Frank and Weisel were given the choice of whether to stay behind or go on the march.

They were not bodies of people who had been "gassed". Food was scarce at the end of the war due to the cutting of supply lines by allied bombardment, etc. The BRITISH invented the concentration camp during the Boer war. Apply the same "why, why, why" question there and you'll get an answer. Learn from history.
