History has taught us that as high unemployment rates sustained, discouraged workers are no longer searching for jobs, and therefore they are not included in the unemployed categories to be calculated as being unemployed. Discouraged workers are unemployed people that are neither employed nor unemployed. They are simply people who are not working, but are not in the labor force. Phony numbers.

Well, did you buy when we lost 150,000 jobs and unemployment stayed at 10%. More people probably joined the workforce at partime workers and that is what made the percentage of unemployment appear to have dropped. The number to look at is total unemployment which is 16.5% which dropped from 17.3% 1 million people who had temp jobs became main stayers. 20,000 jobs loss and 9.7 is encouraging, but the unemployment rate is going to go up again.
