yes it is the same helicopter that brought the passengers from the ship to the island, in several successive flights. There were a little more than 100 tourists but the chopper cannot take all at once , so it has to do a shuttle service. As far as I know the islands are not inhabited currently.
anyone interested on how to get to Franz-Josef-Land... it is when you go to the North pole with Quark Expeditions. On the way back we stop at FJL. see quarkexpeditions . com and look for the arctic north pole voyage on icebreaker 50 years of victory.

Who were the people that were already on the island? Are they ferrying little groups back and forth? It's inhabitable, right?
