I saw his last fight on TV against then world champion Ray Boom Boom Mancini on November 1982. Really exciting fight where Duk Koo Kim was ahead until the 14th round where Mancini nailed him. Kim went into a coma and never recovered. So tragic RIP, Duk Koo Kim.
Kim was not ahead until the 14th. The 13th he got brutalized. Kim shouldnt have ever fought 15 rounds... that match should have only gone 12. Kim was toe to toe with Mancini for the first 8 maybe... he was exhausted by then.
He represented for Korea... but I would have rather seen a fighter with that much heart in more matches rather than his tragic death.
I was proud when he stood up after the knock-down in the 14th... but by that time...I felt like he had proved his point.
its funny. hes the champion but he lost the fight. but he kept coming back with the spirit of a champion. it makes me think. if he didnt have the weight problem, he actually might of won, because i understand that losing weight for an upcoming match is hard. too bad he died from this issue. he might of won tho, but atleast he changed boxing.
this was also very known because after this boxing was changed forever.
