Yes this meal happens to be a premade raw diet. His food was only in the microwave for 5 seconds though, just to make the outside not so cold for him.
I'm considering on making my own raw recipes :) I have a question about your kittie's stools, is there a greater stench to the litter? I clean my litter box twice a day and I was just wondering if the raw meat they consume would create a bigger smell out the other end. Thanks in advance! You've got beautiful cats! and a well trained dog! ;)
Actually, it completely the opposite! As I said to someone earlier today, the litter box of 3 raw-eating cats is so much better smelling and easier to clean the the litter box of one cat on regular nasty kibble.
After doing tones of research, I tried to get my kitty (age 10) to eat raw but she couldn't handle the poultry (it made her tummy upset and now she won't eat it). I would like to introduce her to different raw foods but I'm afraid she'll get sick again and her vet doesn't know too much about it =(
Aww, that's too bad. =( Probably because she's been so used to eating the other stuff for 10 years. That's why I'm so glad we knew to start our cats (and dog) early. Good luck with your baby though.
I would do a lot of research of your own if I were you, because that's what I did before I started. Don't just jump into it, think of all the questions you may have and start researching. Google is a wonderful tool, just search raw diets dog/cat and BARF (bones and raw food) and you will come across more information than you could hope for!
Try introducing her to raw gradually. A little bit at a time, mix cooked to raw until it''s just raw. Try also soaking the raw food in Grapefruit Seed Extract mixed with water to kill any bacteria.
Great to hear that you might be considering the switch, since it is such a fantastic one! However, don't be surprised if your vet isn't as knowledgeable as he/she should be about the raw food diet - sadly most vets aren't, so they don't recommend it. They only know about pet food what they're taught in school, and most of those teachings are sponsored by the big pet food companies (Iams, Science Diet, etc.) So you do the math.. =/ It's a really unfortunate thing. See 'About This Video' for info!
From what I read, the meat should be served ON the bone. The bone has essential marrow in it for calcium, and the bone itself prevents future tartar. And if you think I'm wrong, don't forget that in the wild, their meals don't exactly fly off the bone when they kill it! ;-) They eat it, bone and all. You should try chicken, turkey and beef bones sometime. The misconception is that they splinter, but that's only when they're cooked. Your dog is SO cute btw!
They all do get the RMBs (Raw Meaty Bones) too. This is just the pre-made ground up meat and bones, which is the main staple in their diets. But they do get whole bones in their diets too, so don't worry. ;)
Just curious, do you always feed your dog after you feed the cats? I have one dog, a Beagle, and two cats and he is always fed after them. In the animal heirarchy they have established in our house, the dog is definately "low man on the totem pole!" So I have taken to following their lead and I feed him last.
No, there's really no special order. I don't feed them like this anymore anyway - now the cats get fed in their carriers so they don't try and steal from each other. Acer (the dog) gets his food in the kitchen. It's just a matter of who's food was prepared first, depending on what they're eating that day.
Wow, your cats are beautiful and same with your pup!! (: Is that breed of dog known for having the multi-colored eyes?! My friend had one and one of her eyes was all brown and the other was half brown, half blue. Just curious.
No, and that's a ridiculous myth that some people have made up as a way to put down the idea of the raw diet. It has no affect on their behavior whatsoever. If you are referring to Nala's growling in the video with this question, that's something she has always done when she gets food and toys, even back when they were still eating kibble - it has nothing to do with the 'blood and stuff' in her food now. She's just a grumpy-butt.
I have 4 cats and I thought it would be hard to put them on a raw food diet, so I bought them raw instincts dry kibble. They are doing ok on it. But One of my cats coat isn't doing too well, sO i was thinking of taking all of them to raw. How many times a day do you feed the kitties? 2 ?
Yes, we feed our animals twice a day. I would definitely consider switching them all to raw if I were you. It would be much easier that way - you won't have to worry about the ones on the raw diet getting into the kibble, and vice versa. Not to mention you will be MUCH happier with the litter box of the kitties on raw. It's almost odorless, and so much cleaner!
(Pt. 1) Now we mainly use the Nature's Variety Raw Frozen Diets, with a spoonful of Stonyfield Farm Organic plain-flavored yogurt to add good bacteria. I'm just really happy with the ingredients of the NV, and have had nothing but success on this diet. Sometimes, for a bit of change (or if we run out of the NV) we'll also get stuff from Publix and make our own meals for them.
(Pt. 2) Chicken breast, turkey, or stew beef along with some chopped broccoli and a spoon of yogurt for the kitties... Chicken necks, turkey necks, lamb shank, or stew beef with broccoli, carrots, and a spoon of yogurt for the dog. Everyone loves it! And it's just so good for them. =)
Absolutely adorable!!! I've been doing the raw thing myself but only one of my cats loves it. I feed Feline's Pride and I used to make raw cat food with My Natural Cat supplement from Feline Instincts using a food processor, liver powder and chicken thighs.
As of now, I think it's been around 6 months, maybe more? I'm not sure exactly, but it's been a while. Great to hear that things have been going well with your switch! We still couldn't be happier with all the wonderful results. =)
I do a mix - Sometimes they get the ground patties that already have everything mixed in, and sometimes I do it myself and give them whole stuff with everything they need. And I do believe I've seen that site before. =) I've never researched anything more in my life, I don't think! Thanks anyway though.
Actually, his name *was* Cocoa, but we finally re-named him Acer. It suites him, and us, a lot better. When we got him his name was actually CooCoo, which we decided we didn't really like, so that's why we just started calling him Cocoa in the meantime. Then we finally thought of Acer, and it's been that ever since. =)
raw is good for animals, all animals were meant to eat meat and not dry kibble crap. People who don't believe in the raw diet, I tell them to eat dry cereal for everymeal, everyday and see what it does to their health...and see if they like it LOL
Yep, except one thing: "all animals" = cats & dogs, lol. We know what you meant though. ;) But yeah, it always makes me sad when I see uneducated people thinking that foods like Beneful, Iams, or Science Diet are actually good for their poor pets. I get so sad, frustrated, and I just want to scream! What are you people doing!? =/ But I guess I can't change the world. I just wish vets would step up and stop being so selfish and money-hungry... So sad.
My dog can't have Iams, or those other kibble foods. It makes her have an upset stomach. The only type of kibble food her stomach works with the best is the Wellness one.
LOL @ 0:47 NaLa was really enjoying her food XD

Is that a premade raw?
I hope you're not microwaving something with bones in. Cooked bones can cause problems. They're only ok to eat if they're totally raw.

A little, but it's not as bad as you would think. Doesn't matter to us though, because my babies are absolutely worth it.
