what is he sayin at 1.10? Sounds like "allah" which includes in some Turkish folk song, just like this, and just like "ole" in flamenco. Since his surname is derived from the Turkish word ¨Kazancı¨, it's pretty possible to be, huh?
@ctimur No, its is NOT possible to be. He is from Pontus and so pontic people are always surrounded by Turks so it is natural to use a few words and even last names. The end of his last name "idis" means "son of". It is natural to borrow things from cutlures that FORCE themselves on you.
@nickpafras surrounded by turks, forced by culture? they lived together for centuries in the same cities and not in a nationalist way you dream of. people were friends and neighbours, they played together while they were childs. you think they always lived together in a hostile way, always fought with each other? it is not possible my friend.
You're right. My great grandparents came from Istanbul to Greece in 1918. I never heard my father say a bad word about Turks, they´re not that different from the Greek...
My Great-Grandfather was from Pontos like Kazantzidis. The Turks killed his WHOLE family, he was the only one who could come to GR. I dont know if he had once tr. friends, he said that the Turks started to be ignorant hateful pricks up to 1912, it was different before the Young Turks came. I just know, that he never forgave them their barbarism and their crimes. I cant imagine it was different in Kazantzidis case. All the Greeks from Asia Minor shared their hatred and grief against the Turks
@Rhomios many people (turks, greeks, bulgarians, armenians, arabs and many more) in the balkans and in the middle east has similar traumatic stories. our ancestors made the world a hell. but it's time for us to leave these behind and construct a peaceful world with every choice we have. because of that i really and really don't like hate-speechers like you. people like you make the world worst a place. please SHUT UP !
@ctimur ... you should listen well and understand more about Greece and Greeks, rather than thinking about Turks & derivatives... At 1:10 he says KALA! which in Greek means "Good", "OK", etc. which he says because he listened to the intro with the instruments, and he is about to sing.
@ctimur well..the whole world uses Greek words in their vocabulary...the most popular is the word TAXI used everywhere..TAXI from the Greek meaning Journey..TAXITHI....medical words ..you name it ..the English dictionary is flooded with Greek words........enough said.
This has always been one of my favorite songs from Kazantzidis and ioannis Paleologlou on the bouzouki is one of the best bouzouki players in the history of Greek music, hands down !
