This is one of the most gorgeous songs she ever did...gives me chills...and why it wasn't a single I will NEVER understand. It was the lead song on the CD. I was sure it would be released.
Ms Ronstadt, I've been a fan since you began singing, it's just a real pleasure to listen as you as you open your mouth and music just flows so nicely and easily. I own your records and many CD's I believe I heard you a number of times sing "I Can't Make You Love Me" on the radio but I can't find it on You Tube or on a CD unless I'm just missing it. I looked on Tunew as well to buy it but can't find it. Your voice on that on is, would be beautiful,,,I love your music young lady...Frank
I'm a huge Glen Campbell fan, but I actually like Linda's version of this song better than Glen's. Regardless, two fabulous perfomances by two incredible artists.
I loved this so much when I first bought the CD, that I played it over and over not able to get enough ...it's still one of my favourite all-time tracks. Fantastic rendition, sung with such emotion and the orchestral arrangement is truly stellar. Linda knows when to belt it out and when to pull back - one of the greatest voices of our generation. The Cry like a Rainstorm Howl like the Wind CD is my favourite Linda Ronstadt work - to me it's her at her very very best.
Glen/Linda--Linda/Glen-- who cares, they are both awesome and worthy of many listens! I wish that more of the superstars would have recorded it. Kenny Rogers- Reba-- etc--
As the official Jimmy Webb authority on best versions of his classic songs, i have to say that the Glenn Cambell version is the best...just as Joe Cockers The moon is a harsh mistress and Al Wilsons Do what you gotta do are the definitive versions of those classics.
this is a super album and song.jimmy webb is unbelievable and so is linda!!the track features carlos vega drums, dean parks and mike landau guitars.lee sklar on bass with robbie buchanan on keyboards! a great tune sung and played wonderfully!recorded at the skywalker ranch owned by george lucas! duh!!

Some versions of certain songs don't arrive to some parts of the world. Linda Ronstadt's version was more likely to get to Mexico than Glen Campbell's, and it was her's that I first heard. I love Linda Ronstadt, I love this song, for me it's THE version. The only one.

why would anyone attempt this song other than Glen? Some things in life you just don't do and this would be one of the greatest illustrations of that reality...
Isn't it great that people can have different tastes? What a dull world if we all only liked the same thing best. I respect your opinion, but I love this version, so each his/her own.
@ceb2633 I'm quite sure that the writer of this song, Jim Webb, Is very happy that Linda Ronstadt "attempted" as you say ( What a freakin' understatement) this song.
Obviously. the whole concept of karaoke is lost on you.
Sorry, I don't think I ever used the word "attempted", or ever said anything about karaoke. I think you are talking to the wrong person. Try again. You sure missed the mark on this. I think I said I loved this version and to each his/her own.
your response was one of the I think 2, it pleases me to see that you were so incredibly distraught that you felt compelled to blow a gasket and shit your self. Have a good day little one.
"why would anyone attempt this song other than Glen? Some things in life you just don't do and this would be a great illustrations of that reality...
There is no way to listen to this without thinking of an old girlfriend- Glen & Linda both hit it out of the park. But then again, thats the way it is with just about any Jimmy Webb song!
you must be high as a kite flcracker. just listened to the glen campbell version--and yes I somehow made it through it. stilted, inflexible, without appropriate feeling: that's Campbell's version. This song could not have been sung any better. Period. By anybody on planet earth. Linda nails it.
I remember the day this CD came out back in fall of 1989. Linda Ronstadt is one of my favorite vocalists and Jimmy Webb is one of my favorite songwriters. Needless to say, 20 years later, This CD still gets excellent mileage!
This song has major significance 2 me. When I lost my mother 2 cancer these lyrics really resonated with me. Mom, if you're still within the sound of my voice...
Her voice is spectacular, and it's even better live! Btw, the photo you posted was hanging in my cabin at summer camp in the '80s and all my bunkmates fell in love with Linda as a result. I got them to fall in love with her voice too by playing her Greatest Hits tape.
I was very fortunate to listen to her rehearsing, outside, on a lovely summer afternoon. That voice floated on forever. Very special lady, she is and was. Thanks for listening.
It was brilliant to open "Cry Like a Rainstorm...." with the track. Still blows me away. She elevates it to a new level.

Perfection.
It does NOT get any better than this.
Angels, or God himself, would have to sing it for it to be better on this side of heaven.
