1.Sri Lanka monks back arrested ex-army chief. Leaders of Sri Lanka's influential Buddhist clergy backed opposition demands Sunday for the immediate release of former army chief and defeated presidential candidate Sarath Fonseka.

Top monks of all key sects as well as the guardians of the island's holiest shrine, the Temple of The Tooth, made a joint appeal to President Mahinda Rajapakse to free Fonseka, who was taken into military custody last week.

As the battlefield architect of the victory over the Tamil Tiger rebels last May, Fonseka was feted for finally crushing their 37-year campaign for an independent Tamil homeland.

The state-run radio station reacted by warning the monks against dabbling in politics and becoming an opposition mouthpiece.

The same way if Sarath Fonseka was elected the majority of the Swan supporters would not have tolerated any move to send President Mahinda Rajapaksa to Bogambara. Feb 10 (DM) An overwhelming majority of people who voted for Mahinda Rajapaksa at the January 26 polls did not want General Sarath Fonseka to be arrested. The thinking was Ok he has been acting stupid during the last two months but he is the man who led the Sri Lanka Army in the security forces epic victory over the LTTE. Since the General was not seen as presidential material they decided to side with the incumbent President.

If MR is so much abided by the law, then why not he allow war crime investigations. If he tries SF for court martial for minor matters, then MR must be prepared to investigate war crimes. everyone must be treated equally according to law. Do not let it blow out of proportion.
