Will he play Carlsen any time soon I wonder? And how many other wunderkinds are there lurking just over the horizon? It's amazing how many very young very strong players there are in the game these days! I bet net access and the ability to play online (and watch videos like these that Kingscrusher is making) has quite a bit to do with the phenomenon.
I wonder how So behaves in Social situations. Fischer(well someone had to make the comparison) was always questioned to maybe be slightly autistic, definitely anti-social,even a bit mad.
How is So's demeneour in public, does he seem like a normal kid (of course he isn't normal, he must be near genious), but Fischer was always a bit akward, I guess it's akward for ANY 16 year old to be playing a game vs men who have been playing for 30 more years than they've been alive and winning Comparisons?
Im Filipino, and based on what I saw of him in interviews and numerous TV features at home and in situations quite apart from chess, I think he is as normal as any other kid in the neighborhood. His parents are just about as engrossed in their support for his endeavor as he is in his mentality towards chess
thx - nice vid - saw the second game today live - here in this game maybe g4 was deadly - today kamsky grabbed a pawn with his rook which was locked in completely after that action - maybe he underestimated this 16 year old boy which looks completely innocent :-)
Wes offered in the second game a draw though he had a completely winning position - enough to get into the next round and a nice gesture!
Excellent vid! This kid plays a very agressive and yet also elegant style. Very impressive. Has he played Carlsen or Topalov yet? I'll have to look it up. These younger players lately are phenomenal! Great vid choice and we'll all have to keep an eye on this rising star for sure! Thanks KC! JS
at 4:30 I think the idea is, in my eyes, that black wants to play a7-a5 to get himself a past pawn. It forces black to take if black doesnt move his rook off c1, and taking isnt the greatest idea. Also on d6, if white takes black can invade with Qa3.Hope it helped :)

Kamsky probably just underestimated him sacking that pawn needlessly. I didmt see any extraordinary talent from wesley so.

We are witnessing the changing of the guards. old names will have to give way to the new.
GM So and GM Carlsen, will be at the forefront, This could be an exciting rivarly.

maybe b5 would have been better for white instead of 0-0, not allowing black to grab that a pawn.
16 year old beating super Grand Masters? he was probably a 1500 in the womb, and then by the age of 2 months won his first international tournament.
