  • chills at the end

  • @dmh497 Tori Amos made a pact with the devil to become famous ? More like god sent her an an angel in disguise, her music is healing and magical. If Tori is on the devils side, then I guess i'm changing sides too ha ha! Her voice, originality and emotive music made her famous not voodoo, and youd do well to remeber that it takes hard work and dedication to be succsesfull, a prayer never made anyone famous. SUUUUUGGGGGGGAARRRRRR :D

  • chills, lots of chills. every single time.

  • bobbie's collecting bees, and hammers he... used one on me. mmm

  • really? You have to delete the word "pussy". That's just dumb. Maybe she is talking about her cat.

  • @dmh497 what a load of horshit. Find me a SHRED of conclusive information and I will look at it, but to just go around posting that kind of garbage is childish, uninformed and just plain insanely stupid. You really feel that post has ANY merit? Bring it on.

  • That "eeeee" at 1:36 gives me the chills every time :'DDD One of the versions of this already amazing song.

  • @dmh497 And you are a dumbass, no?

  • @dmh497 troll dust

  • She was made for this. Thank you, tori. I can't imagine my life without your songs.

  • I looove this woman and all her music. Maybe we shall meet someday

  • todays toris birthday !!!! happy birthday tori

  • come to buenos Aires

  • this song is about a gay boy and him being beaten up for being gay

  • @serpentsally Uh no, you're think of Taxi Ride, and that boy was sadly murdered... Sugar is about a boy that couldnt remember how many sugars Tori took in her tea after 9 months of bringing her tea

  • and oh my god in a good way of coarse, i love her!!

  • the high bit at the end made the hair on my neck stand

  • Absolute perfection

  • mocno zagrane

  • she brings me chills!

  • Does anyone know when this was? Like, what year?

  • tori amos can REALLY sing. even if she was calling him a weak "pussy" rather than a pussy cat it wouldn't matter, the whole thing would be ironic, an actual weak pussy would take offence :)

  • Don't have a clue what she's singing about though - its all a bit cryptic.

  • I used to love Tori Amos in my youth. Just discovered this and I love her even more - this performance is mesmerising. I'm addicted.

  • Who the hell are the four people who disliked this video? Um... yeah don't know how ANYONE could dislike this video. Absolutely amazing.

  • OMG, I could watch it forever!

  • This is the first time I'm hearing this song. Damn, it's GOOD! I just love Tori Amos... she's amazing. Completely.

  • Who knows these songs are from which album ? Thanks :)

  • @svenemie Sugar is a B-side from Little Earthquakes

  • I never get tired of watching Tori..she is amazing and angelic...

  • She is the ultimate goddess !!! Love this song

  • O my Gods she is breathtaking~

  • she is just so good!

  • I really like when her voice is low like this.

  • You know what my favorite thing is? Tori's twin cowlicks! They are so damn cute, that I have actually tried training my bangs to swirl the same ways. Love, love, love them!!!

  • When the song hits the last minute her wonderful and agile voice majestically transforms and climaxes into pure angelic grace. It's extremely moving.

  • @grinreaperdutchphil She sings well too. :-)

  • 3:45 love the emotion! :)

  • @klink2u

    specially at 4:20

  • Never looked or sounded better. Holly molly!

  • Love...

  • she made a dream where freddie mercury was singing this song...wow i really can feel something about him!!! great!!!!

  • she looks so much better with some weight on like here.somebody get her some sugar.super talented

  • Get down Tori!!!!! My sweet boyy..

  • She needs plenty of sugar to get amped up before doing concerts so she did a song about her need for it.

  • Magical.

  • wow, Ive seen tori live quite a few times but this performance is just amazing.

  • 2:54 love it!

  • Comment removed

  • she takes inspiration from freddie mercury! great!

  • She buries any of her contemporaries with her talent. Her lyrics and arrangements come from somewhere else. Probably from wherever she is staring off to. Soaring and ethereal. I saw her at Fox Theatre in St. Louis. She straddled the piano bench and played her grand with her left and and played a small upright with her right. Talent and beauty beyond belief. Shivers.

  • Love this performance of the song. The last minute of her ethereal, angelic vocals give me shivers every time. Torgasm!

  • Aside from being immensely talented, Tori is everything a woman should be. An angel and a devil, with a little dirty mind in between. Look at how those eyes incinerate you.

  • cette voix grave qui monte crescendo me transporte dans un autre monde j'adore...

  • This is my favorite song of Tori's and this performance is so great!

  • Tori is awesome. I saw her a long time ago . I got tickets online was a benefit for abused women. I got 6th row seats for tori and Alanis. Tori was the warm up band but I have to say she blew Alanis away!

  • <3 !!!!!!!!! <3

  • Love U and Your lyrics ! ! !

  • This is tough.

  • This is probably my favorite Tori tune. I have a bootleg of a live show from Tampa in the mid-90s where she tells the story of how she wrote it. She was (so the story goes) on a train, and the recently-departed spirit of Freddie Mercury sang this song to her. Ever since, I've been hearing his voice singing along with hers every time I listen to it...

  • absolutely stunning - tears and goosebumps

  • This is undoubtedly one of the best live Tori Amos performance videos ever. I can't get enough of the quality, the sexiness, the intensity, and the professionalism. Rock ON Tori and band!

  • 2:46.

Sooooo cool. Tori is so awesome.

  • Amazing video of Tori live and one of my favorite Tori songs. Excellent sound and camera. The wailing at the end of song sends shivers down my spine. Love ya Tori.

  • This song kicks serious ass. And Tori looks so beautiful in this video. <3

  • Is it just me...Or is she the kind of woman that could make any gay man or straight woman completely rethink their sexuality!? lol F*CKKKK! :)

  • @joooooo1980 indeed;]

  • SUGAR SUGAR!!!

This performance of the song makes me feel so close to it. It makes it all personal and stuff

Oh man! I love how she wails at the end of the song.....

Love the ambiguity of the lyrics..

Is it about a gay guy, her forgetful 'special' friend or both or what.

    HEEEE EEEE EEE OOOOOO!!!

  • The last part is so... epic. o_______o I love this part so much.

  • What's this song about? Obviously, will be opinions... unless Tori replys.. and wouldn't THAT be cool (ok... nobody pretend to be her). I read one once, and it was really complicated. Very sarcasm related explanation.

  • @davandk Tori said it's about how a guy was making her tea every day, and after 9 months, still couldn't remember how many sugars she takes in her cup. Overall, the song is about a secret relationship (most likely between her and Mark Hawley, who she married a couple years after the song was released.)

  • He was/is her sound engineer, right?

Is he the "sweet boy" she warns near the end of the song? "When they find you out?"

    Maybe I'm over analyzing.

    Love the song!

  • Yep, he was and still is her primary sound engineer. And it seems he is the "sweet boy" she's singing about, at the end of the song. I've always assumed the bit about "when they find out you've got a little in here..." has to do with her first pregnancy.

  • @TheBonnieRose I don't mean to be crude but I think she means sperm.

  • @TheBonnieRose when she met Mark she had already written the song I think:)

  • I forgot to mention, "Bobby" is a boy she had a crush on, when she was a little girl... she tried to kiss him, and he hit her with a hammer. (So she said in interviews, back in 90's.)

  • Ever post a comment then think... no that's not it? Hard to express how Tori's music makes me feel. She's incredible!

  • Comment removed

  • I love Tori! She's amazingly raw and real and truly one of a kind, and shes absolutely stunning its hard to take your eyes off hers, shes beautiful to look at! <3<3<3

  • A Grammy award would be nice, but in no way can that validate Tori's artistic brilliance!

Tori has already achieved what the Grammy's will fail to ever recognize - 20 plus years of authentic music. The Grammy's are the antithesis of what Tori stands for - genuine quality.

  • So good!

  • where the F is the Grammy for this. this is bananas freagin good. i'm addicted to this song

  • this is such a trip to watch, i would have no means to contain myself if i would stand there. Oh mamma, how i wish to be there and loose it ... thanks a million for the post!

  • Amazing . Love her.

  • I know we're not supposed to allow the superficial aspects of physical appearance dominate our view of one other but here Tori looks exquisite!

Tori's sweet expressions permeate my soul...

  • Delicious! ! !

  • wow she's really beautiful. and her voice is so ethereal. awesome.

  • Tori is amazing here. I hope she stops the self-indulgent, pretentious album artwork and gimmicks and strips back to basics for her next record...

  • @keepinbees78 I couldn't agree more

  • too bad they censored it for television.

  • Beautiful song, beautiful woman, beautiful performance. She is a GODDESS!

  • Wooow TORI AMOS is one of the best piano-playin-female-singing one of a unique kind!!!there are just flowing with emotions and can off course feel her music, putting goood chills inside out-TORI AMOS is sooo greeat, because its REEAAL music, soulfullfilling and all that makes her a beauty of music of pure mind, heart and soul....!!!!!!!!!!!!!;]

  • o my god my sweet boy............shivers

  • It is not about war but whatever-I love this version of sugar-best one i have seen-and her eyes are like diamonds-incredible

  • ( I was meaning the interpretation of a relationship going downhill because the man brings her sugar...)

  • i think this might be my favorite song of hers. I cant find this other song stuck in my head though. Its got a really low intro like this but its got a 3/4 time signature.

  • bliss?

  • Great song, great riff, great performance!

  • I agree - i wish they released these performances on dvd. Come on record company!!!

  • Sugar is nice... but that's not what I want in my bed! :D

  • this is about war

    gee wiz

  • I like how she is fearless - unafraid to speak her mind. I think that makes her divine. Like her, I believe in freedom and the freedom of speech, so I will say the censored words a million times: "MY SWEET BOY, YOU'RE A PUSSY!!" "MY SWEET BOY, YOU'RE A PUSSY!!" MY SWEET BOY, YOU'RE A PUSSY!!" "MY SWEET BOY, YOU'RE A PUSSY!!" (I would never want to change Tori's lyrics but I believe pussies are useful - I think another word should be used instead of pussy.....)

  • @havemylove

    i think it is perfect.

  • @havemylove I believe she's evoking the character of someone ignorant in those lines. Maybe a redneck type of person or a woman who may tell that to a man in anger. Just a thought...x

  • @havemylove you never want to change tori's lyrics but would suggest to use another word?!?

  • @zulawski77744 haha disgruntled women/girls who are tori fanatics are so retarded and funny. they think they're all so tortured and only they and tori get it.

  • @havemylove She's referring to him like a sweet 'pussy' cat.

  • @havemylove She's referring to him as a sweet and sensitive 'pussy' cat. Well said.

  • I thought the song was about her relationship going down hill...he offered her tea, and gave her sugar, which she then realized that he didnt know anything about her.

  • Actually, after nine months, he didn't know how many sugars she took in her tea. but yeah, that's basically it.

  • This is a strange interpretation. It's quite obvious that sugar stands symbolically for a quality which is rated very high by the speaker and which singles out the subject of the song compared to other men: "I know the robins bring me many things, but he brought me sugar". There is no disenchantment in this, this is a positive statement.

  • Everyone is gay it seems.

  • she is so into her performance...one of the reasons i believe she is a powerful artist and storyteller--this video really showcases that.

  • those eyes, my God I could melt!!

  • Oh my god...they censored it. That's disgusting that they would dare touch a beautiful piece of art to make it more "appropriate" for mainstream America.

  • are there any more songs from this concert?(except precious things, God and Bliss)i think its one of her best concerts, she's extremely expressive..such bewitching and sparkling eyes!

  • She played 1000 Oceans too.

  • You and me so sweet but not enough...

  • this period is when she looks her best I think.

  • en fait,j'ai raremment été interpellé par une voix.c tori amos.

  • lol @ solesole16! u made me laugh, thank you :0) tori's 'things' at 2.03, priceless

  • I'm glad I made you laugh :d I really noticed it right away. She sings "things" very beautifully at 2:03 I can't explain it ^_^' :)

  • yes.. when she's playin' the world around me seems to break into pieces....

  • The pounding of the piano at the beginning reminds me of a thunderstorm. Strong and unmerciful. What an incredibly powerful and classy performance. This is how it's done, people.

  • ye gods, you can tell you've been abused by jools holland bbc................tv.yuk

  • Am I the only one who can't seem to get enough of the way she sings "things" at 2:03 ? :d Thank you 'Torivision' for posting this. It's an amazing performance and Tori is so beautiful. Does anyone know what this song is about ? :)

  • she said in a concert or an interview that this was specifically about a boy who used to make her tea who turned out to be gay.

she (presumably) had a crush on this boy.

some say that the bridge is about Matthew Shepard; a student who was abused and murdered for being gay. if it's not specifically about him then i'd have to guess its about someone who's been (or was about to go through) something very similar.

  • Okay. Thanks for answering my question ! :)

  • She wrote the song about someone that she was seeing at the time, every day he asked her how she liked her tea. He never could remember that she wanted sugar in her tea. She found this very irritating that he couldn't even remember that she wanted something simple like sugar :)

  • how do you know?

  • i think that story is a metaphor for a relationship that didn't offer her enough, physically and emotionally. just my opinion! cheers all toriphiles! :-D

  • replying to nettiekay :)

  • she is really beautiful.

  • she's perfect! :)

  • completely

  • wow! :D I love this song especially this version

  • almost forgot.., thank you for sharing!!! :)

  • I love the power of the piano in this song!!

Great song, great performance! amazing Tori!

  • I love this !!! Thank you for posting !!!

  • Tori looks as beautiful always as she sounds. The end of this song, live, always makes me cry.

  • I'm surprised that they didn't censor f***** but yet they censored P****.

  • It's ridiculous, they always censor women like that.

  • I started watching this video, and I thought, "Wow, this song sounds pretty nasty for a song called 'Sugar'."

I love it. The anger in it is amazing! :)

  • Yes, it is true. Cooling and Sugar are both on to Venus and Back, lots of people come out with B Side cd's.

  • espessialy i like THE END of this song, someone inside of me sings with her!

  • Oh my God! I love her. Amazing song.

  • I love this song!

  • beautiful inside and out.

  • Her makeup is beautiful in this. I think Kevin Aucoin did it, if I'm not mistaken.

  • AWSOME

  • Simply fantastic! Thanks for posting it. Can anyone tell me from which album Sugar is from?

  • As far as I remember, It is the ninth track from the second CD of "To Venus and back" (2000)

  • Thank you very much!

  • thats not true at all...sugar is not on ANY tori studio album, let alone venus and back! its a b-side!

  • a live version of sugar is on the live disk of "to venus and back ", not this performance, but it's this version.

  • it's on the live CD of to venus and back

  • ok, i misread it, i didnt realise they said the second disk, i thought they were talking about the studio album

  • actually, sugar first appeared as a b-side on the hey jupiter single.....so its not really from venus and back at all.... live disk or otherwise, it was out 3 years before that album, i dont get why my comment is -1 when what i said is true, its not on any STUDIO album, i didnt say LIVE album which is what the 2nd disk of venus is...
