I hope one day for a concerto for ALL INSTRUMENTS, not just for 1,2 or three soli instruments. Solists one by one show their virtuosity, or the rest seems boring and secondary. We can learn in Rock music quartets that demonstrate each instruments importance and intensity even if these are electric ones !!
3:29 - 3:51,richter the master of phrasing, although the first mouvement seems a bit too slow and too much severely played in my opinion, richter´s controlled piano playing is so amazing.he only played the d major concerto by haydn only once at puschkin museum moscow.
No, he also played this concerto in the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory with the same orchestra. Interestingly, after they finished, they played it once again (i.e. the second time) as an encore. I've got the video
Richter only rarely fails, in general he was a genious. And he did work a lot . More than a lot... Only Barenboim did work that much too... and maybe Martha Argerich.
Mahalojack, have you ever played Haydn extensively? I find it personally much more satisfying than learning, say, Mozart, which suffers from being more egocentric which is so often to the detrement of music (though i hate to jump to conclusions), paradoxically on account of Mozart's genius being more phenominal
Extensively not, only some of the easier early sonatas. However, after getting inspired by this piece/interpretation, I have been listening to Haydn more and more during the past couple of months. Now, I have to admit that I have changed my opinion on his works, and actually on the whole classical period, which hasn't ever pleased me deeply, but which I now find really inspiring and elegant.
may someone tell me which cadenza is richter playing? thank you very much

Why is it that when I searched YouTube for this concerto, a video of a 9-year-old was higher up than Richter? It made me sad.

In Haydn you can still hear the gentleness of the pre-classical area side to side with the popular-bourgeois condensation that he himself brought in.
