They can say they performed the requisite testing so they're not at fault, never mind that the different physiology of (other) animals makes the testing often irrelevant. Thalidomide was animal tested and then caused birth defects in humans. And now the puppy mills that supply dogs for testing have a vested interests in keeping the experiments going.

One question I ask those who use or support animal research is this: If a drug has no effect or an adverse effect (e.g. death sickness etc) on an animal and a drug is still released into the drug market for use in humans why bother with the animal research in the first place? To which they might reply that doesn't happen (it does) So what happens if that drug kills all animals an ISNT given to humans?? Have we missed our wonder drug that cures cancer?
