  • these are backhands.

  • @snowman358 These are forehands.

  • @Cardshark45 wait...is if hes left handed then these are forehands

  • @snowman358 Dude, that's what I just said. Your original comment said, "these are backhands," and I corrected you by saying that, "these are forehands".

  • @Cardshark45 if hes LEFT HANDED they are.

  • @snowman358 DUDE can you read? You're first comment said that these were backhands. All I did was correct you by saying these ARE his FOREHANDS. I'm feeling really sorry for you cause your'e making yourself look like an idiot.

  • @snowman358 Are you serious?

  • I like it when people cheer while they are practicing.

  • I like it when people cheer when they are practicing.

  • Is partner kei nishikori?

  • beautiful spin

  • when it's slow motioned, his grunting sounds so funny

  • Elegance doesn't validate a shot, effectiveness does. I don't care if my swing looks like baboons fucking, if its effective, I'll use it. Anyway I always thought Nadals style was badass, the buggy whip is awesome. Elegance is just a matter of opinion anyway, I can call anything elegant, and you can't say anything. Just imagine if Roger's shot looked just as 'elegant' but wasn't effective, people wouldn't say shit about his elegance. It's actually the skill of Roger's shots that infatuate me.

  • @ChicagoFan32 You've misconstrued the situation. Nadal always buggy-whips and hits reverse forehands because either A) he does the same shit over and over and never leaves his comfort zone (something Djokovic exploits) or B) he drops the ball short and is on the defensive (which he admittedly does well). THAT is why most people think Federer is more elegant than him and has more class. Always in control, never on the defensive, always composed, tons of variety. Where's nadal's variety?

  • @365to173repubsPWNED Last time I checked, no matter how defensive a player is, or how 'not in control' of a point he may seem, the man who wins 3 sets is the victor. You criticize Nadal's defensive play stye, to Federer's as the standard, but no man has been able to beat Federer as much as Nadal has in the last decade or so. Also playing style has nothing to do with class. Class is how one conducts themselves on and of the court in a matter of character. From what I've seen both have class.

  • @ChicagoFan32 Well there's an argument to be made against Nadal's class, if that's how you define it, given how fucking long he takes between points. I however wouldn't make that argument, but I'm just saying its out there. I think we'll also see sooner rather than later, and have seen over and over, that the elegance in Federer has lead to no injuries, not missed tournaments, and a longevity of career. This has not been so for Nadal, and won't be so. So in a way Nadal lacks what Federer has.

  • ugly forehand

  • @79alexmartin shut up

  • @jkanter95 zero aesthetics, not deny it. And be more education

  • hey guys pls come and check my forehand out and let me know what you think :)

  • the guy really likes to hit forehands

  • "They say my games should be more interesting. I could be more interesting—and also lose." ~ Tigran Petrosian

  • Great technique Nadal. These look like the courts in Indian Wells

  • so jealous of his forehand

  • pfff whatever, even I can deliver bombs when I'm practicing....

  • watch in slow motion is quite cool

  • ok

  • not bad

  • love that shot at 15! INSANE!

  • @BfmvMetalDemon that's one big motherfucking cross courter :D

  • i hate when people cheer while they are practicing.

  • @MayurUPatel they are simply in awe

  • every single one of his balls lands a foot inside the baseline. this is what separates nadal, from mister 551

  • rafa !

  • rafael is my favorite player

especially his top spin forehand shot excite me !!

  • who is the hitting partner?

  • どうやったらこんなスピンかけながらのスピードだせるんだ?!

  • @legends70xbl yeah. He hits it (sometimes) from the inside rotating it out. So the velocity brings it out but the spin brings it in. It'd be easier to show than explain..

  • This has been a lingering question of mine: Now come on Nadal's forehand, the ball takes a left-to-right curve in the air? is that because of the way he strikes the ball or something?

  • @Legends70XBL Yes, he uses a "lasso" swing that gives his strokes a very heavy topspin. It's a unique style where the follow through goes over and around the head instead of across the chest. At around 5200 RPM, compared to Federer's 2200 RPM. It helps out a lot with him on clay.

  • @DurpenHeimer I think the analysis at Wimbledon calculated it at 4000-something RPM with Federer at 3200RPM. Top spin isn't everything though. The flattening out of forehands can be effective just as much. Nadal's game is based on movement and chasing down the ball and making the opponent play one more shot.

  • @kwl189 Was Federer over 3000? I can't quite remember. Nadal may have been 4800...But anyways, yes at the professional level topspin can be returned a lot easier because the talent level is incredibly high. However, at a high school level, I figured out that heavy topspin can be an incredibly useful tool for confusing the opponent and bringing a saved ball back into play; Which is a very good reason to have more than one stroke in your tennis repertoire.

  • @DurpenHeimer Yep. I remember that one from the Wimbledon analysis. People have grown used to the top spin that dominates todays play. At school it does make a big difference. The ball gets on you faster then you anticipate. The players use a lot and thats down to the surfaces which are so much slower then they used to be. Clay for sure has always been slow. Wimbledon and USA have slowed down so its harder for someone as old school as Federer who likes the faster courts as opposed to Nadal.

  • @DurpenHeimer Also helps out on the slower surfaces that dominate the tour leading to the long rallies we see now. I personally think its ridiculous and takes the character from those surfaces. Wimbledon is a mockery of what it used to be, the USA isn't too bad but still slowed down.

  • Gah this is so intenese after watching roger practice :o

  • The only player good enough to practice against nadal is nadal himself.

  • 444,444 views! :o

  • If I was playing myself I would telepathically let the other guy (me, but not the real me) to throw a couple points here and there. Sportsmanship at its best!

  • Even if Rafa plays better and win more title Federer will always have the elegance and everything that makes you to go deep in tennis, that's why Rafa always cries when loses Fed. I adore Rafa but and his play but Federer is JUST better!

  • @avetaram The sad thing about you Federer fanboys is that the only argument you have is "class, elegance, grace", stupid stuff like that. The real truth is that tennis a sport, and Rafa is one of the hardest working, most humble players on tour. The mere fact that you said Fed would be better than Rafa even if Rafa plays better and wins more titles is a testament to how biased you are. If Rafa wins more titles and plays better, it is out of passion and hard work, nothing else.

  • @explodingpimp I have nothing about Rafa's hard working and titles, he is really one of the best ones so I really adore him and like his play, but about your stupid stuff like Class Elegance and other... Dude this are the things that make in everyaspect life more beatiful, that's Federer's secret!

  • @avetaram Class and elegance have no set place in tennis, that's a bonus. Gasquet has the most elegant backhand on tour, does that make him the best in the world? And Im 100% positive that Federer didn't win 16 slams out of class and elegance, he won it out of the effectiveness of his strokes and the work he put in. If Rafa gets 17+ slams by the end of his career, Im sure commentators wouldnt say "oh yeah he still isnt as classy as Roger", thats just dumb

  • @explodingpimp Rafa will not get 17+ slams by the end of his career

  • @explodingpimp you're right they won't say that. because he isn't going to get 17+ grandslams LOL

  • @explodingpimp Class and elegance=control and variety. Nadal does the same shit over and over (which is why he'll never beat Djokovic unless he plays more like Federer). Variety, offensiveness, and composure will always reign supreme. Nadal needs to bring his US Open 2010 form back...which was exactly that.

  • @365to173repubsPWNED But that's why he can beat Federer, right?

  • @explodingpimp I'm not a Federer fanboy, but you can't argue with 16 grand slams.

  • @181erob Nadal had 10 by age 24. Fed had 8. Sorry, but that record's most likely gonna be gone

  • @explodingpimp Only if Djokovic slows up, and even so, I expect 1 or 2 more from Fed.

  • @181erob He always does... This has been a great year for him, but he will choke soon enough like he always does. And I don't think so. He played good at Roland Garros, but he definitely wont be able to do it again next year. He hasn't done too well in the US Open in the past 3 years, and he can't reach the semis of Wimbledon anymore. I think his best shot is at the Aussie Open, and thats gonna be tough with players like Del Potro, Nadal, Djokovic, and Murray

  • Best FH ever...

  • no offense but i dont like his forehand

  • I played with his current racket, its friken hard to use even though its lighter than federers racket. I need to grow some more muscles.

  • @Kiasko The scary part is that he puts on two overgrips and lead tape in the front. Guy is a total monster

  • @Kiasko

i have his racket at the moment and i find it easier and lighter than the model he used last year, its a bit improvement tbh :)

  • If I got 1p for every pixel I would have.......... alot of cash!

  • i think this forehand is better than the one he uses today (the leash). he puts too much spin and is giving up power. if he is going to put so much spin on the ball he needs to hit it deep but instead is leaving it short.

  • he doesn't do the reverse finish on hardcourts?

  • i just got a babolat aeropro drive gt tennis raqect

  • Is he playing himself? Lol

  • It seems that nadal changes his backswing motion on his forehand side a lot. If you look at his matches in 2009 such as the French open loss against soderling and the classic match he had against djokovic in madrid, his forehand looks very awkard and different from the forehand he had in 2010 and now. He also had a different backswing motion in 2005.

  • @jomasterj yea his backswing on his forehand has varied slighty through the years....in 2009 it was a very low take back

  • Chuck Norris was the first man to see RAFA hitting flat..

  • Nadal's got a beckham forehand... dats mad...

  • Couldn't be Nadal...didn't grab his butt even once (???)

  • @Chipinjack

    almost funny

  • @Chipinjack He didn't serve

  • 1:08 probably still faster than my actual speed forehand o.O

  • Nadal really swings his racket without locking his wrist at all

  • I tried to copy Nadal. Now both of my arms and legs and amputated.

  • Nadal and his mirror image

  • this is a pretty elaborate backswing...i noticed he only used it in 2009...left it in 2010

  • is it just me, or does the other guy hit just like Andy Roddick?

  • @Harmonikz .. No it's just you

  • it is possible 0_o

  • con quien estaba entrenando?

  • excelente camara se ve como si fuese el jugador

  • wow there is porn on youtube

  • I noticed that the deeper ball nadal get the higher his racket goes over his head. On the short ball attack his racket wraps below his shoulder.

  • Hes not even swinging his hardest. When he is he swings his racket back behind his head

  • how does he hit it like that incredible!!!

  • 0:05 crazy spinn

  • he's got crazy racket head speed.. the biggest top spin forehand in the game

  • If you look at his forehand it also spins to right also after the bounce

Thumbs up if you didnt notice this =)

  • Rafa practice and plays with the most passion

  • A lot of these videos of ATP pros hitting from the baseline show them kinda half-assing it, or hitting 40-50% of how they hit in actual matches. Shows how much hard work Rafa puts into everything, especially practice.

  • IS that a semi-western?

  • @ibanezcrow Nah, Nadal is using the western grip; that's what he's famous for. Don't you see the crazy topspin he's generating? (Nadal Western grip) - 5,000 RPM (Federer Semi-Western Grip) - 2700 RPM

  • @TRTNino Damn, I wish I hit close to that :/

  • @TRTNino Fed uses eastern, doesn't he?

  • @stefanarak yes

  • Damn that boy can swing!!

  • I hit 1/10 as well as this. In my dreams.

  • Is rafa playing himself?

  • @GideonSawyer yeah he's playing his fat righty clone

  • @GideonSawyer No the other player has shorter pants than him and has different color shoes, just to name a few differences I saw.

  • @TheGrtC Thanks for a pointing that out. Now i am convinced that he really isn't playing himself. Because i totally wasn't joking or anything before.

  • @GideonSawyer Yeah it's alright I was thinking that too when I first watched the video, just have to think logically sometimes and observe things better.

  • @GideonSawyer lmao

  • @GideonSawyer Yes in a mirror

  • @GideonSawyer

    No his twin brother :P

  • @GideonSawyer No, he has someone else in the other side of the court...

  • @federerbestcIass he was being sarcastic lol

  • if i hit his ball back im afraid my strings would break bc of the top spin he generates

  • i like nadals forehand when he finishes across his body but when he hits revers forehands it can sometimes be too short.

  • nadal sucks. he got beat by a lil shrimp daveed fererer

  • @lordofkronos

I'm not sure if you're trying to say Ferrer or Federer, either way you sir are an idiot.

  • @Svenfxbeatbox well he did say "David" so I'm sure he means Ferrer...but yes, the comment is idiotic to biblical proportions.

  • I love how the crowd goes 'ohh' at 0:17 when he hits that winner lol

  • Why cant't be every tennis vid. on youtube be like this :S

  • At first, I thought Rafa was playing himself.

  • i now really really like rafa's forehand :O :D

  • has anyone noticed that he almost never uses normal, human across-the-body FH's? he always uses reverse ones (lasso whip)

  • @Gbax13 in this video he isnt. He only uses it when he is being pushed back or when he is in open stance.

  • Type PRIZE before youtube and hit enter

  • lol jeez....so much intensity...even in just a basic rally i would be afraid to his against hit.. not to mention the fact that i would have to deal with the kick in his top spin

  • from the back it actually looks kinda effortless cause you don't see his face grimacing as he hits

  • looks like nadal vs nadal and nadal is getting his ass kicked

  • Wtf I don't think my swing is as fast as his slow motion one...

  • I'm a Fed fan, but Nadal's FH is scary...

  • Why doesnt nadal hit any moonball in tis video?? doesnt he usually do those in matches??

  • its... so pretty :')

  • yall are all really stupid. s900203, rafael nadal has like the best forehand in the game. he's just as strong as some NBA and NFL players. are you serious.. you obviously have no idea what you're talking about.. and the rest of yall. yall think federer is like the best, i know he has way more titles than nadal, but hell he's only 24 and nadal has a CONVINCING head to head record against federer. oh and already has a career grandslam. thank you

  • @fsu1341seminole I can tell that you are very young by the way you write. Please do your homework before posting comments... Most NBL/ NFL players bench/squat over 300 lbs... Nadal? Look at his chest. I doubt he benches more than 2 plates. Of course bench-press is not the only way to measure strength, but have you even worked out before? Nadal is able to generate that kind of speed through skills, not strength. Oh, and please go learn some grammar. I rarely say this, but it's just atrocious.

  • @fsu1341seminole Plus, don't you understand that my comment is rhetorical? I am simply DAZED by how he can pull off such ridiculous forehands... As a Nadal fan, I believe that Nadal has the best forehand on the tour. I can't believe you can't even notice such obvious nuance... Seriously, how old are you?

  • @s900203 federers forehand is by far the best. every player who plays him tries not to hit to it. even nadal.

nadal's forehand is a moonball ninety percent of the time.

  • @cj397 I say that Federer's forehand during his prime was the greatest in history, but as of now, I say Nadal's forehand trumps Federer's. Federer makes way too many errors off the FH wing these days. Although I did see an improvement during the WTF match against Nadal, I don't think his forehand is just as deadly as it used to be back in 2006~2007. Nadal's FH is so solid in that it rarely faults. However, the high bounce is disadvantageous against tall players, especially Del Potro.

  • @fsu1341seminole

s900203 would have to be mentally retarded for you to be able to call him "really stupid." I believe that you are the one, that does not know what you are talking about. s900203 wasn't insulting Nadal or supporting Federer in his comment. He was astonished by Nadal's ability to propel the ball without driving through the ball, but rather having a vertical swing path. You shouldn't hate on him, since clearly you cannot interpret a comment correctly.

  • I don't get how he can propel the ball like that with his nearly vertical swing path. He's muscular, but not like NBA/NFL players.

  • @s900203

He actually got alot of body rotation on his forehand

he transfer his energy to the ball very efficiently using straight arm and pronation of the forearm (fed and verdasco also do this). He's not very muscular but then you don't need to be muscular to swing hard. Tennis players all train with medicine ball to build up explosive strength. He also have a very powerful racquet set up, low tension ( i think around 52 lbs but it depends on the surface) and large racquet head size.

  • Nadal has a long tennis career ahead of him...that's for sure

  • @BarbaQ8918 mmm not really. he has chronic knee problems and takes ALOT of damage on tour (just like all the players) 2 maybe 3 good years left thats it.

  • @TheMultiCoffeeblack doubt that %100. You're going to look like such a fool when Nadal is 30 and still playing hard. Have faith in the Spaniard!

  • @BarbaQ8918 haha sure

  • Look at that spin omfg

  • Federer might be better..but i think Nadal looks cooler when he plays :D

  • I dislike Nadal's style, but I like this vid. The angle is so good, it makes us realise how pro hit hard, and why Nadal's forehand is so effective^^

  • I think the secret of Nadal's forehand is that he takes a lower hitting point than other players like f.e. Federer, and sort of bends his body over the ball when hitting. Like this normal topspin gets sidespin.

  • @Slapstop hardly a secret.....

  • @cobster123 secret: read magic formula...

  • the slow motion is funny haahha lol

  • inside out Forehand= WOW!!

  • holy nubby buns

  • yeah nadal u have a great forehand everyone knows that but instead of practice that.. try more with the backhand

  • dang his warm ups are more intense than federer's haha if u watch roger practice, he is relaxed

  • people underestimate the PACE of nadal's forehand. It's like less than 1 second to land on the other side, not to mention 5000RPM. Imagine trying returning it... with a one-handed backhand -_-

  • @daemonturk federer does quite a decent job at returning it.

  • @daemonturk

and thats just why federer is so amazing :)

  • @daemonturk Only Federer xD

  • @daemonturk Except he hits a 5,000 RPM forehand only once every year... Don't exaggerate the number, it's more around 2,500 to 4,000 depending on the purpose of that one forehand.
