You might say that's figurative or symbolic of the world, but I would respond that Joseph Smith-History 1:18-19 puts it into the proper perspective when he supposedly asked the Mormon god and jesus/Mormon god/two unnamed personages/two unnamed personages and angels/just angels or whatever version of the Furst Vision you accept, and was told that he was to join none of them for they were all an abomination.

And also remember thatD&C84:21-22 makes it clear thatno man may see the Mormon god without the benefit of the Melchizadek priesthood, but Joseph Smith somehow did exactly that because he didn't receive it until years later. Why don't the rules apply to him?

Not only that, even if He hadn't, the only rightful holders of the Aaronic priesthood were the descendants of Aaron, and my guess is that you don't have too many men with the last name Cohen in your congregation.

Additonally, there's no evidence that the Melchizadek prietshood has more than one member, and that's Jesus Christ. No, it was meant for Him alone and not mere mortal man.

@Yobachi2007 No, it was made illegal. LDS believe in following the laws of the land, hence no polygamy. The Bible records several instances of prophets taking multiple wives. If you believe in the Bible, then you believe in polygamy or that God has changed (effectively making Him not a god).

And even still, the church leadership practiced polygamy, didn't they? The very prophet of the church, Joseph F. Smith fathered 11 of his children after the first manifesto of 1890, so it's clear that he had no real intentions of following this rule to begin with.

The legislation passed was the Morrill Anti-Bigamy Act of 1862, the Edmunds Act of 1882, and then the Edmunds-Tucker Act of 1887, and the church ignored all of them, didn't they? The latter was the one with the teeth allowing the Federal Government to seize church property and imprison polygamous Mormons.
