  • The electric piano sounds awesome at the beginning and again in the middle. This stuff is so stinking classic,it will be perfectly appropriate for any generation! They just need to get the ears out of the gutter of rap and Bieber and Cyrus and listen to some real rock music..........Then they will know...............

  • I'm sick of tra la dahs and lah dee dahs.

    Brilliant...

  • PEOPLE DONT REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT THIS ARTIST OF OUR TIME REALLY IS.

  • Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy (1975) is Elton John's last masterpiece, ending a long series of ones. In this song, I love the piano part!

  • luvtotruck ... It was Gus Dudgeon who used to do all the orchestral stuff, then James Newton howard, from Caribou/Rock of the Westies onwards.

  • Saw him, and the new Band play this at the Wembley Stadium all dayer, Stackridge, Rufus, Joe Walsh, The Eagles,(their first European Tour) ,The Beach Boys, then Elton To finish it off.

It was very risky to follow The Beach Boys, as they played two hours of Hits, but he pulled it off.

The whole album was played, and then his big hits, Funeral for a friend,Saturday Nights Alright,( with Caleb Quaye doing a Chuck Berry Duckwalk all over the stage.) a brilliant days music, for only £25 .

  • A drummer I know, this was once his favorite tune, but he never wrote a song. God bless!

  • good ole days

    sorrowful whale la dee da

    greatness

  • Great to hear this again after SO many years. My sister and I used to always try to sing along with this and try to figure out how the words went as kids.

  • Elton John is a flaming ball of awesomeness and Bernie helped him make that happen.

  • @EltonJohnRocketMan Flaming ball is right!

  • @EltonJohnRocketMan Very true.

  • great piano work

  • Main reason this whole album cooks is the great production of the late Gus Dodgeon. So sad the way him and his family were killed in that wreck

  • Lol. I'm sick of tra la la's and la de da's

  • elton is like a gateway drug.

  • Let's see one of today's groups write a song like this....they can't....

  • chulada de rola

  • what he said

  • I'm 2, ~this is the first song I've ever heard, & I love it!!! so much.

  • great

  • Nice to know that at least some of the youth of today has good taste in music.. I'm 25 and this is my favorite album of all time.

  • This one of those songs I can write words to in about 5 minutes just for you. But I don't see the point.

  • i cant think of any reason why someone would dislike this???

  • I am 6 months old. I love this shit.

  • Great song....

  • I am so young i haven't been born yet

  • no one cares how old you people are get over yourselfs

  • @recon294 I do so go fuck yourself and quit telling the only people in this world that are going to help keep this music alive that you don't care.

  • @jason13204 calm your tits

  • @recon294 yeah, what you said!

  • im only 5 and already got a boner with this music

  • This whole album describes my whole year during sixth grade(a couple or so years ago), sometimes fun, sometimes sad, and a dark time in between. This is an ultimate life saver, and I would love to thank Elton and Bernie for everything they ever collaborated on. Amazing song, love it so much I have it on vinyl and CD.

  • I was 10 when I was into this. I haven't heard these songs in years but now it all comes back. I had this on vinyl back in the day. Now I'm a part time audio engineer/producer. I'd love to be able to record like tey did back then. 2 inch analog tape sounds so good.

  • @kylechinault1 digital is a scam, analog vinyl is crisper and warmer. Cds just don't scratch up like records- thats their main advantage, cds of course are now obsolete with mp3. The future is now .

  • keep pressing 1

  • simply magnificent!

  • Great song

  • My Brothers were huge EJ fans during his 70's Heyday..Listening to this album today brings back so many fond memories.

  • god i love this song; elton thankyou for the music

  • This album was about Elton John and Bernie Taupin. The entire experience. I daresay if you didn't like it, then you don't REALLY know them, or understand them.

  • el mejor album de elton

  • This album was far and away my least favorite of Elton John's. I distinctly remember thinking after trying to listen to it when it came out "well Elton John is over for me". I know a lot of other people felt the same way. It just seemed too self-indulgent with the whole biography theme. I'm now re-listening to all the songs on it to see if I was unfair back then.

  • @kirbygene

I have to disagree, this was one of my favorites...it was rock of The Westies that threw me. there were a couple good songs on it, but it was my least favorite.

Captain Fantastic and Goodby Yellow Brick Road, two of his alltime best.

Also, first time seeing Elton live was October 1974 in Cleveland.....

  • @kirbygene You were.

  • I love Elton's new album The Union, with Leon Russell, getting excellent reviews including 5 stars in Rolling Stone- for me, his best since Capt Fantastic, which is probably his peak (as Elton himself has said)

  • @mizofan I think the union is the best album since Songs From The West Coast, but I think is not as good as it. The union repeats much of the earlier songs of elton.

  • One of the first E.J albums I ever bought and this was my favourite song. I first heard Bitter Fingers in 1975 when living in Highbury, North London. I was staying just round the corner from Furlong road off Holloway road where the great man once lived. Thanks for posting..

  • this is def in my top 10 albums of all time!

  • This has to be one of my favorite songs.

  • so happy listening to music from a more simple time. I do believe I have every single early Elton John album he put out. I recall buying a ticket to see him live for $6.00. Those were the days.

  • @duvalle814

Yeah, my first concert ticket in '81 was $12. Even for back then and the '70s, I don't see how anybody made any money back. I don't know. I 'm sure money was made off concerts, and lots of it. My how times have changed though.

  • who cares what age you are; anyone can love this music.

  • Why doesn't FM Rock radio play this song on the radio? I never heard this song on the radio and I think its one of Elton's best. The whole album is underated.

  • EXELENTE!!!!!

  • ONE OF MY FAVES FROM THIS ONE TOO...

  • i think i played this album 5 times a day when i was 14!!! wow this brings back memories..........

  • Man, I haven't heard this one in years but I still remember all the words. Another of Elton's masterpieces - absolutely timeless, like all great music.

  • @ashleyw34m same here mate briliant

  • Great song, Captain Fantastic is definitely my favorite Elton record, every song on it is praise worthy!

  • so much to do so few to tell you why.....

  • Modern poetry at its best. 'Nuff said.

  • The Greatest Melody Writer Ever In Popular Music

  • It still brings back memories of 8 tracks and wide open young people with the whole future in front of them. The generations since then havent had anything like the music we had back in the 70's. It was a great time to be alive.

  • I absolutely LOVE "Captain Fantastic". It's one one of his classic concept albums all about the history of him and Bernie Taupin and the whole experience of songwriting. "Bitter Fingers" basically explains what a struggling songwriter would go through. I still have my mom's original copy of the album, complete with original poster, lyrics book, and scrapbook.

  • @OldMusicOnVinyl1 That's so cool that you have that! I wish I still had mine, TOO COOL!

  • @ccmb1 Thanks for the comment!

  • @OldMusicOnVinyl1 Me too

  • nice

  • I bought this album on cassette when I was 15. I shortly thereafter got an album version which was far better to have because of the amazing cover artwork and superb collection of inserts that came in the album package. CF is great for these portions alone. Elton may have had better albums musically than this one, but CF is just as welcome to listen to as well as look at.

  • I can not tellyou how much I loved this song

  • This is my kind of music...

  • My favorite song on this album is the one thats playing at the time. I love them all!!!!! Its just my favorit and most carefree time of my life, Yeah 1975, if I could only go back for one night. Love thoes memories

  • Second best song on the album(best

was of course Someone Saved My

    Life Tonight)

  • @mrtelevision What about We All Fall In Love Sometimes???

  • not only did he make good music. but he had someone WRITE a song and elton turned it into a song. its like bernie taupan brought the marble and elton sculped it

  • im ten and i love Elton the beatles billy joel MJ Franck Sanatra The Who Devo Men Without Hats and AC-DC thancks to my dad but Ringo Star

  • you have a good taste in music young man!

  • on that note, take a listen to some music by Queen, Barry Manilow, James Taylor, Jim Croce and others of that era as well :)

  • @clicktheyellowbox

  • 1975

  • I love all the songs but my best is Someone Save My Life Tonight.

  • im only 14 years old, but i can tell this guy is a music genious. favourite song from this album :)

  • Good for you. Enjoy it. When I was a kid my older brother had bought it... I remember playing it for a friend. This was the opening song, I believe. Loved the piano. The song just is an introduction what is deeper and amazing music. Hard to imagine a better creative pairing then Reg and BT.

  • I was 15 when the album came out.......Yeah, it showed he was very special indeed...

  • @beanworldcows I was only 14 years old the year this came out! I'll always remember it because it was one of the records that really defined the summer of 75.

  • @beanworldcows You sure dont have many real artists today, become one yourself

  • @waypor1 aha perhaps i will

  • @beanworldcows , to be 14 and realize this speaks well of you my friend.

  • @beanworldcows yeah this is a great album.I had it back in the 70's myself.Where is it now? Just keep in mind, you call Elton a music genious, which is rightly said, music genious. But he has a lyric writer, not himself, his name is Bernie Taupin. However,I am not saying that Elton hasn't ever wriiten any lyrics himself he probably has and co wrote with Bernie, but Bernie is the main lyric writer.Just wanted to share that with you since you mentioned your young age.Enjoy.

  • So Far this is my favorite song from this album!

  • LOVED this albuem--I too listened to it until I heard it in my sleep--half the time didnt try to figure out the story behind the songs: NOw I can see into a lot of his lyrics...very interesting...but the songs are still so awesome!!!!

  • Dear rhianferris, when your friends laugh at you its only because the rest of the gang dont do it----It's theyr'e loss not yours!!!!!!! BTW You 'n your Dad Know good music when you hear it!!!

  • what a wonderful album, the music brings back so many memories cant get any better than that, also what we lack in today's "cd" is the Album Art that was a great cover!

  • WOW memories. me and my sister would listen to this albim over and over and over and over and over again...I was 12 years old. I didnot know what he was singing about but whatever.
