We all love the firesteel and it is probably irreplaceable in my pack. Great tip with the jute twine. I thought also if you braid enough twine into it you can save one piece of string to re-tie the igniter to the firesteel, using the rest for tinder in a survival scenario. This is a good way to put the spark and the tinder together.
Good point about this being a flash tinder. You'd have to work quick if this was the only tinder available, but doable : ) Great intro from FloridaAdventures
Great tip! To keep the jute dry I wonder if you could run the twine through a small plastic hose. Something like aquarium tubing. Or dog tag chain silencer. Then seal it together with heat. Just an idea maybe?
What an intro, going to check those guys out. Great tip man, another way to give your gear tow jobs while in the out door. Keep them coming brother......
Great tip John and one I never thought of. I'm always looking for something stronger like the nylon cording but in reality, you really don't need it as it easy to replace when/if needed. Can't beat having ready tender. Again, great tip.
Nice tip John. I have one Iconnected to a long piece of paracord and larks head it to a pant loop that way It wnt get lost if it would fall out of my pocket . It's long enough I can strike it with out untying
@Cragdwella Thanks Bro! I agree, that jute twine is some cool stuff (plus I really like the cheap part, haha). Hope you have a great weekend as well man! Peace....
Hey John thats a nice little tip. It's pretty cool how in the old books and magizines we find and learn usefull skills. I like to read old Popular Mechanics mags and such. Back in the day people were always self sufficient with a can do attitude.
@houseoffire72 Thanks Brother. I know what you mean man, and I couldn't agree more. I remember reading through my dad's copies of Outdoor Life and Field And Stream when I was a kid... loved those old magazines!
Great idea! Keep the tips coming!

Probably would be a good idea to carry that ball of twine in a ziplock in a bug out bag?

Great tip! Never thought of making a lanyard out of jute twine. Using a lighter for the frayed pieces, sweet idea!
Great work awesome tips and web site!!

@2kargarage1 Thanks Brother! Yeah, using a lighter to help make something for a fire steel was kind of ironic, eh? lol.
