Hi- I need to remove the white background from a logo to be used in print at 300 dpi. Do I use the same process and then save as a GIF? I must have some of the settings wrong, because I tried that and still get a white box when placing the logo in Quark. Using PSE 6. Any advice?
Thank You So Much Bill! This is the best - and most easy-to-understand - instructions that I've ever seen on Transparent backgrounds. Appreciate your help!
thanks for your help - I'm not trying to do a video. I'm doing a website.
See I have a transparent image that repeats 960 x 2 pix. It's the background for the content text of a website.
I have this 960 x 2 pix image that is already a transparent greyish. I need it darker -
to see the copy.
You see, the image behind the transparent image/content box is light and so my white lettering is not showing up well on the transparent image I have - it needs to be darker.
Sorry - left my comment in the wrong place. I'm not making a movie. I have a transparent image. I am using as background on a website so my picture shows behind. It's the container bkground for my copy/text. I've spent 4 hours trying to learn how to make the transparent image a darker tint in Elements 9. Every thing I search is what you show - but that's not what I need. Any help is greatly appreciated I must complete this!
@niboryentruoc In Photoshop Elements, create a new layer and place it below the image and text layer. Add a color to that layer, and then adjust the opacity of the layer using the layer effects.
What if you want to have a tint to the transparent part? Like I want to have an image, then transparent background for copy or text - there's nothing on Youtube that addresses this.
@niboryentruoc In Movie Studio, just add a video track below the image, add a color to the track, and lower the opacity to make it transparent and tinted.
I have been trying to find out how to make my web site pictures transparent and your video was so easy. thank you so much your video was so easy to understand and what a breeze that was. picture looks great!
@weberpa Jpg file format doesn't have transparent background. Start with a new image, choose transparent background, and them drag your jpg onto the image - as shown in the above video.
I THANK YOU so much....you helped me a lot & you were quite clear. Just a simple thing I had to do, and I searched everywhere on the internet how to do it, and all I was missing was what background to use and which file type to save it as. Thank you so much for this informative video! :)
@sjoerda When creating the image in Photoshop Elements, start with 'new image', 'transparent background', 'video template', and choose the full size of the video screen.
Then create the image, save it as a .png or .psd and open in Sony Vegas, and place on a video track above the track where you want the image overlayed.
Thank you sir! I was on many other videos trying to figure this out...and this was by far the easiest! I've tested it out already and it works!! THANK YOOOOOUUUUU!
The photoshop elements ntsc preset has a default white background. When you change it to transparent, the preset name changes to custom, because you have changed the background color. Everything else about the ntsc preset stays the same
When needed transparent backgrounds, save as png, not tga.
Targa (.tga) files can be saved with a alpha channel and will be transparent IF the program opening the targa uses alpha channels.
If the file is saved and there is only one layer (and it's transparent) or it has a layer under it not active, Targa files default and put a white background under
Put the transparent background on a video track above the main video track. Then use event pan & crop to bring the image onto the screen, and key frame the ending location.
If you mean how to resize in Photoshop Elements, use the selection tool to select the element to be resized, and then drag the corners of that selection to resize it.
Alot of the time when using photoshop I have images on transparent backgrounds, but when I put them into another program such as Microsoft Access they have a white background. If you have a solution to this could you message me? Thanks alot, your videos are very helpful.
hey i have to ask, when your using photoshop and you have a picture and a background and wanna paste the picture on to the background so you can see both it and the picture how do you do that cause i pasted a pic onto this background i got and i cant seem to get them to be one picture can you help...btw great video i like your pointer ;D
Then open the image you want to use as the background. Then with that image still open, drag the second image from the bottom of the screen onto your main image. Then resize the image to fit.
Thanks. By move it around i mean can you like animate it to make it move around in your video where you can make it follow something and it stays in your video? One still image?

What if the image you are using has some white inside of it? How do you unselect certain white areas with the wand?
Timothius25 9 months ago
@Timothius25 If the white is inside the selected area, it will remain and won't be a problem.
Only the outlined area is removed.

I need to make a TGA file with no background but his way is not working plz Help!
dom199 2 years ago
When needed transparent backgrounds, save as png, not tga.
Targa (.tga) files can be saved with a alpha channel and will be transparent IF the program opening the targa uses alpha channels.
If the file is saved and there is only one layer (and it's transparent) or it has a layer under it not active, Targa files default and put a white background under
it. Avoid this by saving as .png

To preserve the transparent background, save the image as either .png or .gif
If you save in other formats, the transparency will go away.

Can you put that into Adobe Premiere Elements? and also can you make it move anywhere you want it to?

Yes, you can bring transparent images into Premiere Elements.
I don't know if you can do a drop down in Premiere Elements. You can in Sony Vegas Movie Studio very easily.
