1:51 ahaha that brought back memories of my senior year in high school. Marched that solo in the intro of our field show. Now I have the accompanying fife solo stuck in my head. ahh Prokofiev; gotta love the Kije Suite.
David, this is one of the most creative and well-written snare solos I've ever heard. I love how you utilized so many unique sounds on the snare drum and brought everything together in a very organized way. Is there any possible way you could ever email me a score of this snare solo? Thanks for your talent!
The only possibly way you could dislike this video is if you were an advocate for a specific drum corps(dooshes) and that you only enjoy one corps' playing and nobody else. Be an advocate for drumming, for amazing talent, and composition skills, jesus. This guy is unbelievable, shut the fuck up and like it.
I literally just saw you at Franklin Central High School at the WGI Regionals two days ago. I'm a part of the Fishers Drumline and all my friends were totally in awe when you walked by and wanted your autograph haha spectacular solo man
first i was like...woah! then i was like...huh?! then i was like....holy crap!!...then i was all OMG! then .....WTF?! then the cycle repeated itself about three more times
He came and did a clinic at my highschool about a year back. Excellent guy, amazing player. Surprisingly humble and shy in person, though that might have been because it was his first clinic. :P
wow is all i can say... I am not a drummer but I go to cedar park high school where we have a pretty good drum line! Just watching guys like this blows my mind! You are truly amazing at what you do!
@boriente aw that stinks, but you've got your self some nice chops there. Wish i could get me some of them. I saw you guys in the lot in 09 and you guys were really good!
The DCI Finals are all about fast accented rolls, fast single strokes, backsticking and fancy spining..i'm more of a rudimental player..but who cares, you won, and honestly, you're better than me..i'm progressing though..keep up the good work!!
I like lower tunings, it shows how much MORE control the player has, even though the drums speak more at a mid tuning with a little bit of ring in it.
I like how his tricks added to his opening theme, instead of being his opening theme. Great rolls. Thank you for playing more then just drags, buzzes and double stroke rudiments. Killer chops, and actually had a musical theme throughout his solo. Awesome job.
hey man i looked for u on fb and i cant find you but i have some questions for you about this piece. my teacher found a copy of it and im trying to learn for my ninth grade solo & ensemble...
o ya but i wonder if he can play paradiddys @ 208 beepy em's like I can?? huh? now what? sometimes I can even start them n the left hand, but i always lose it after the bum BUM da-deedle-Doomp. always on the deedle i lose it on the left, but still. i pick it up again and double up on the Doomp and then i just go back to righ hand how the drum gods want it . or at least thats what Jon Bottom from Zeppellin said. so now. now what?
His girlfriend is a recent graduate of my high school, and she got him to come give our percussion section a clinic. He wrapped it up and played this solo (dropping a stick, even!) and then gave some lessons. I took one. He's a great guy, and even more impressive in person. Although, he has gained a beard and quite a few piercings since the time this video was made. :P
@JSUsnare3 I'm a fan of tuning higher than the drum is here, I just didn't want to touch it. Sometime this lower sound can mud-up the balance, making it harder to hear and align your notes vertically with the people around you.
