Don't do it this way not hatin dude but I killed a pair of reds doing this what you need to do is get motor cleaner and degreaser and take you bearings spray a load so there's a pool of it into a zip lock bag and then shake for 30 seconds then leave them to dry . It makes you bearing hella fast and smooth
you should get the dirt out of your bearings first by taking them apart and brushing everywhere. then lube.
Alot of people are saying that wd40 isnt good. Why is this? ive always thought that wd40 was a de-ruster and lubricant. How exactly does it worsen your bearings?
@kitward24 i use wd40 and there fine if u let the bearings be for around a day or so there fine and they last long. i think personally youve just been reading everyone elses comment on the whole "wd40 ruins them". no they dont, my bearings are hella fast and clean because of wd40
Idk bout you guys, but i bought a pair of Bone Reds 2 years ago, put them on urethane wheels, and from time to time i clean them with Zepreserve NC (which is like a metal preservant/ lubercant for cars) and my bearings still ride smooth as hell. Idk about all that ABEC rating bullshit, but im rollin 8) bearings in good shape and everything, so thats all that matters :)
first off, its a socket wrench, second wd40 is the devil, and third of all, to properly drain the bearings after you squirt any lubricant or anything like that, take the dust cap off.
@xjOhn810x just stay away from the stuff, plain and simple. i used wd40 on my bike, had to clean the chain the chain prematurely. also, when oil attracts dirt, it acts like an abrasive, so if u like getting new bearings and wasting money, avoid wd40
everybody else says that wd-40 is a bad thing because it rusts the bearings and it attracts dirt but thats all a bunch of bullshit because i put wd40 on my bearings and they dont rust at all n all bearings are going to attract dirt sooner or later
@xjOhn810x hes an idiot dont listen to him, you do remove the sheilds but after you clean them. You remove them when u gotta lubricate and thats when u just put 2 drops of special oil in between the ball's and then put the sheilds back on.
Who ever uses WD-40 on bearings is stupid, it may work for a while but then that stuff will ruin the bearing shields, ruin and dry up/or rust the ball bearings.
@funtimeswithflames You can use a wrench it works the same. I use one because i don't feel like spending 20 dollars on a skate tool that breaks in like 5 days.
Only reason why most ppl say that WD40 messes up ur bearings is cuz they do exactly what this kid does. First of all u have dirty bearings so why the FUCK are u going to add more grease which then will attract more grease. its called clean them FIRST!! (with alcohol and make sure all the black grease is out, especially the one left on its WHEEL or else theres no point in cleaning them. Finally if you'd like, add Just a LITTLE bit of wd40,to get ur bearins spinning.DONT ADD TO MUCH!(like this kid)
IF u add wd-40 make sure its a LITTLE Bit.. like less than a drop of it.thats because its just meant get the bearings spinning after u clean them; because alcohol cleans them but also drys them so u need something to get them spinning..OFcourse nothing beats the bearing cleaners but if u really dont have them u can use wd40 BUT REMEMBER! DONT SPRAY IT DIRECTLY TO THE BEARINGS CUZ ITS TOOOOO MUCH!! Spray on a Q-Tip and GENTLY apply to the bearing and should be fine.i do that and it works fine.
@azan97 By Q-Tip i mean the thingy u use to clean ur ears...
Well its better if u use the bearing cleaner/lube but if u really dont have any u can use WD40 but just a BIT spray a little bit on a Q-tip and gently go around the ball bearings. make sure the lids/shields are off
1.: Get them out and carefully wipe off the dirt on the outside. Make sure you don't press any dirt in the inside.
2.: Open the bearing on one side and brush WD-40 in there. Turn the inside round an let the WD40 clean the inside. Wipe off any dirt that you can find.
3.: Open the other side and look for larger grains that may still lock the balls. If you have one, you could maybe use an airbrush or air gun to get those out.
ok i'll skip the simile part. pretty much it keeps it moist for a while but it makes it rust faster though because it attracts more dirt and when it dries up on the bearings it rusts unless you keep spraying it like everyday.
WD40 is not water based it keeps water away and it helps clean the bearings. I'm not quite shure if maybe it destroys the ball's finish but i dont think so.
The only thing you should know about it is that it never replaces oil or grease because it is high-viscosity an therefore quickly disappears out of your bearings. Use it to clean your bearings. Then make sure you completely get it off the bearings (WD40 solubilizes oil and grease) and finally lubricate it with some more low-viscosity grease.
dont use WD40 it makes everything gressy u can buy this thing called speed cream and u should probly take the sheilds of ur barings if u can with some u cant

dude. @bondonkid101 i use stuff called lithium grease, it kinda looks like toffee n its the same stuff used on car wheel bearings to make them last longer, usually get it from a car gararge or car parts place

@TheBirdymusic because wd40 eats at the rubber and causes the balls to wear down faster

take 1 shield off for every bearing to properly clean them. you can take them off with a razor or anything thin and sharp to prop them up and off
MySk8forLife 2 years ago
So this is how I clean my bearings:
1.: Get them out and carefully wipe off the dirt on the outside. Make sure you don't press any dirt in the inside.
2.: Open the bearing on one side and brush WD-40 in there. Turn the inside round an let the WD40 clean the inside. Wipe off any dirt that you can find.
3.: Open the other side and look for larger grains that may still lock the balls. If you have one, you could maybe use an airbrush or air gun to get those out.
4.: Reassemble an lubricate them.
