A VERY courageous boy actor - Maarten Smit - ; obviously open minded and dedicated to his acting craft (and possibly truely gay - of wich there is nothing wrong with).

A beautiful, intelligently made film about an admitedly very controversial topic, intergenerational love.

And boys that young CAN fall in love. Most adults absolutely refuse to acnowledge this (it's called 'living in denial').

@M0zM0vies "Wrong." Which is why such a movie HAD to be a foreign film. America's puritanical hypocrisy would never have allowed such a film as "For a Lost Soldier" to have been scripted, let alone alone found actors to play the roles.

I don't think the soldier does penetrate the boy but I can see that they pretended to penetrate.

The scene where the soldier penatrates the boy ruins the whole film. That scene was not necessary. I am a gay man, but I would never take advantage of a 12-year-old boy. I would feel like I were stealing his innocense. Unaccpetable.

@antonio01lima Well, that's the point: you're a gay man. We have no proof that either the boy or the soldier were gay. They had a homosexual encounter and attachment. It's still perfectly possible both characters wound up marrying women and fathering children of their own. A few homosexual encounters does not necessarily make a man "gay."

I worked with many boys, some as vulnerable as this boy. I never thought it would be in their best interest to do as this soldier did. Thus, I was able to stay in their lives for a year or two or three, helping them at various points. Especially in modern times, this soldier should keep things platonic! The beauty of this story would then have been about fraternity.

@ifuliki I personally worked with numerous vulnerable boys. Boys in the care of an adult are almost always vulnerable. So, what is a man to do? Answer: before he has learned from experience, I would tend to forgive an impromptu error, especially in our society which does not equip men. But what I did was avoid temptation by working in the open,  or in groups, or doing many other common sense things to avoid temptation, including speaking to parents about these issues (tactfully, of course).

Some of you people really need to read the book to get the real story.

This was a different time from the witch-hunts of today. It is a true story and the boy looked for the soldier for the rest of his life as he loved him all his life.-Alas he never found him.

BTW its not realy fictional. The writer wrote about his own childhood. the only name that's changed is the maincharacter. He's called Jeroen instead of Rudi.

The boy character in the movie was twelve year old, not a teenager. I don't know how old he was in the book this film was based on but film makers are allowed literary license in these things. Both the book and the film are fictional even though they were "based" on a true story.

@alexyomero76 the soldier never forced himself upon the boy, the boy discovers who he is, its tells the tale of a boy's first true love, they loved each other, the boy was never molested or sexually abused, if he was, then why would he want to see the soldier again, he loved the attention that he was getting from the soldier, plus he didn't know anybody besides the family he was staying with, he needed someone to love him and the soldier gave him what he wanted.

Then again my question is: Why every erotic contact between an adult and a teen is tagged as sexual abuse nowadays? As I told u , for much less than this many men have been jailed! And if u put this story in the evening news I'm sure not many people would post beautiful comments as they do here!
