Existentialism is basically the idea that existence is a series of free choices, the responsibility for which cannot be lessened by any set of rules, any circumstances, or any outside influences.

I interpreted the title (which I love) as someone who takes a step back and looks at the world in third-person during prom night. I do this all the time myself; becoming impersonal with a situation and viewing it through fresh eyes.

In a way his statement almost captures the essence of existentialism. As a progression from a nihilistic state it embodies a sense of hope in a meaningless hope. Ultimately it is a denial of the conclusions that so many have drawn. Existentialism is man making his own hope and meaning.

I prefer a reductionist philosophy that studies the mind and the universe. We should at least believe in the external world for our senses + perception provide enough proof to ourselves. Evolution is a well-established theory. Everyone knows it happens. Watch how bacteria are able to become immune towards antibiotics through natural selection.

A theory does not necessarily mean "a plausible hypothesis on a phenomenon scientist except". In biology, it is simply an explanation on a well-established phenomena. Evolution happens and you cannot deny it. The phylogeny ("tree of life") is based on evolution. You cannot talk about taxonomy without using evolution as a base.
