I just came from Game 4 at the Joe. Terrible officiating. It was hard to watch because they made so many bad calls. Good thing we won, though. It would have been terrible if their calls cost us the game like this bs.
Even though it wasn't the reason the whistle was blown, it looked like you could have called an interference at the end there. But its hard to tell. Being playoff hockey I'd say let it go and in the end the wings won the series anyway, but you get some your way and sometimes you don't.

Hossa didn't choke in the finals. He had a bumb shoulder, which he had to have surgery on in the off-season. I'm not mad at Hossa at all, I loved his time in Detroit. I'm waiting for next Wednesday's game against CHI when Hossa returns to Hockeytown, and see how the fans react. The way I see it, if we didn't have Hossa, we might not have made it to the Finals again. Hossa scored six goals in the first three rounds, this should have been seven. You gotta take it with a grain of salt.

However, your argument that the puck didn't beat the actual whistle is not consistent with the facts. Check out 1:10 - 1:16. It's clear the puck hit the back of the net by the time the whistle was heard.

ok the call was rong, Yes BUT you have to live with the calls made, MY WHL team should have swept the series final but, we got horrible refs that missed many many bad calls, 3rd goal our captian got tripped, 4th goal they had 6 guys on the ice. if it was just as or after the whistle blew then I would agree with the ref on no-review, but it was before and he should have did a review for the observation I along others have made.

For those that think that the ref "lost site of the puck". The whistle is blown at 25 seconds. Pause the video at 24 seconds, which is when Hossa (give or take a few tenths) put the puck in the net. The ref, that blew the play dead, was right there (getting in position) and had a clear view of the puck.

This is exactly the reason the NHL needs a better review process, and perhaps a "challenge" system the coaches can use. With all the action that happens in front of the net...you literally need a 360 degree view to see what's going on to be fair. Sure there will be some missed calls and some bad calls, but when it's this blatant, especially in the playoffs...this call should have been overturned.

The ruling was simple: the ref lost sight of the puck, and at that moment intended to blow the whistle, so in his mind the play stopped at the moment he lost sight. He should have let the play continue, but obviously didn't think fast enough. These quick whistles are intended to protect goalies, who are being run over on every play because the nets are on breakaway pegs and D-men get called for protecting their goalies after whistles. The officiating was terrible last night!
We are not arguing. I AGREE THE PUCK WAS IN FIRST. The ANNOUNCER said the whistle beat the puck (1:16). THE ANNOUNCER WAS WRONG. OK? Sheesh! I was talking about the rule because that's what decided the goal, and it is why they didn't review it. That's the point I was making. I mentioned that the dork announcer got it wrong at 1:16. Umpires talk and reverse calls in baseball all the time. The ref knew as he was waving off the goal that he was making a mistake. But there is no process in the NHL for reversing a call on the ice without going to video review.
Another blown call that hurt the Wings was the interference call on Stuart that led to an Anaheim PP goal. The call was made by the ref at center ice, who didn't see that the Anaheim player was playing the puck when Stuart hit him because the puck was behind the net.

You can say "it's about when the ref decides to blow the whistle," and you can make a good argument on that--although the still doesn't mean it was the right call. However, your argument that the puck didn't beat the actual whistle is not consistent with the facts. Check out 1:10 - 1:16. It's clear the puck hit the back of the net by the time the whistle was heard.
But it's a moot point now because the Wings just eliminated the Ducks.

ok the call was rong, Yes BUT you have to live with the calls made, MY WHL team should have swept the series final but, we got horrible refs that missed many many bad calls, 3rd goal our captian got tripped, 4th goal they had 6 guys on the ice. BUT we lost. My own hockey team we where tied 5-5 one of my teammates got a breakaway, a kid on the other team grabbed him(holding) then tackled him. What happened? nothing we had to live with it.

i agree. If you look at the approximate moment, hossa knocked the puck pass the line and then the whistle went. So technically he scored.
That thing about the goal being non-reviewable doesn't apply because the puck went pass the line a millisecond before the whistle blew.
if it was just as or after the whistle blew then I would agree with the ref on no-review, but it was before and he should have did a review for the observation I along others have made.

For those that think that the ref "lost site of the puck". The whistle is blown at 25 seconds. Pause the video at 24 seconds, which is when Hossa (give or take a few tenths) put the puck in the net. The ref, that blew the play dead, was right there (getting in position) and had a clear view of the puck.

This is exactly the reason the NHL needs a better review process, and perhaps a "challenge" system the coaches can use. With all the action that happens in front of the net...you literally need a 360 degree view to see what's going on to be fair. Sure there will be some missed calls and some bad calls, but when it's this blatant, especially in the playoffs...this call should have been overturned.

I love hockey in general. But I hate the inconsistency in the officiating in this series and this game especially. Then you add this on top and it's just a meltdown by the officials. Something needs to be done, if they're gonna let them play, let both teams play. Don't make calls on one side, it's just not good for the game. Wow this got off topic. BUT Detroit should be playing so that they don't have to count on this kind of play. They can come back, but they've gotta dig deep now

In all fairness, the ducks played a hell of a game. But the wings are too much for them. It should play out in the next few games. The wings did get screwed over but the ducks can't depend on the refs too much longer...when the wings bring the "A" game, not to mention the return of a couple players, there will be a different outcome. The ruling was simple: the ref lost sight of the puck, and at that moment intended to blow the whistle, so in his mind the play stopped at the moment he lost sight. He should have let the play continue, but obviously didn't think fast enough. These quick whistles are intended to protect goalies, who are being run over on every play because the nets are on breakaway pegs and D-men get called for protecting their goalies after whistles. The officiating was terrible last night!

Umpires talk and reverse calls in baseball all the time. The ref knew as he was waving off the goal that he was making a mistake. But there is no process in the NHL for reversing a call on the ice without going to video review.
Another blown call that hurt the Wings was the interference call on Stuart that led to an Anaheim PP goal. The call was made by the ref at center ice, who didn't see that the Anaheim player was playing the puck when Stuart hit him because the puck was behind the net.
