  • Nice job btw, how steady is the fan? Can you set the strobe to a constant rate and consistently get the effect or are you controlling the strobe rate from the fan's RPM signal?

  • He's strobing a light so that you only see the fan at given intervals. It makes the fan appear to be spinning very slowly even though it's going full speed.

  • I really dont get it.... is supposed you use a microcontroller PIC to drive the speed of fan with PWM??

  • @36mauro36 no whats happening is that the camera's shutter speed is at such that it nearly matches the fans spinning speed so it appears slow. its the same effect like on TV when a car's wheel appears to be spinning backwards even though the car is moving forwards.

  • @TheGuitardude789 Normally, that would be correct. However, in this particular video, what is actually happening is a light (hence 'stroboscope' (as in strobe)) is being flickered on and off very fast to give the same effect that you described. Stroboscopes work with the human eye, though. They're intended for use by engineers and such to allow them to inspect things such as aircraft engines whilst they're running.
