I'm from Georgia & I have family in Baker, Louisiana & my whole family has a "Southern" accent, but some people on True Blood (especially Arlene & Sookie) take it a little too far. Just so you know, there are different accents depending on where you are in the south.

As an American native, in the "melting pot" of CA, it's interesting to noticing how fast I, or others can pick up certain accents & not even know it, just even by one meeting with someone w/ a strong accent. It can happen easily w/o trying.

I think for this actor there are quite a few people in the cast who are not from the US so maybe that makes it easier for him to hang onto his :)

I feel the same way of Americans going overseas, but it's pretty hard not to pick up on an accent when it's the same language and you live there for years. It's just impossible not to pick it up a bit and use it in your everyday lingo!

There are a few non-americans in TB. Anna Paquin is a Kiwi, Stephen Moyer is British and Alexander Skarsgard is Swedish. And they all have to do the southern accent (except for Alexander, his role speaks common american accent, it seems). Kudos to them. I fell in love with the southern twang coz of True Blood!

i know in some parts, people dont actually talk like that. they dont have accents at all, but in really small towns or communities the accent is there and kicking. this girl named April that i go to school with, she's from Alberquerque, Alabama (dont know if i spelled that right) and her accent is super-strong even more exaggerated than on true blood. and she's so infectious that after talking with her for a while, you'll start to have a little of her accent!!

He's an Australian actor (and no, his accent is NOTHING like a New Zealand accent...that's like calling a Canadian an American ;) who found fame in Australia through his acting on a TV series named "Home and Away". (I don't watch it...it's pretty crappy, like "Neighbours".) You'll find that frequently Australians are great at portraying other accents. In reverse, the worst Australian accents I've ever heard done by foreigners are on The Simpsons; they always sound cockney or New Zealand.
