I'm from Dallas and I LOVE THE DIXIE chicks! I actually love them more after that comment. It takes a lot of guts to make a statement like that when your majority audience are conservatives (and you're from Texas!). That takes backbone, that takes guts and it makes me really really proud to be Texan again. We're not all war mongering accept any leader at any price.

I lived in Lubbock for a year as an exchange student from England, the only thing there is the university, all the other students seemed to do was drink, i enjoyed the sunshine though and the pretty girl, although they seemed to have no interest in me, i was foreign, i don't think they knew what to make of me :)

well; i personally DOlive in lubbock and ive lived in lubbock for my entire life; i believe every single word of this song is true. if your too ignorant to see that; it's not my problem. we are rumored *and this is most likely true* to have more churches per capita that any other city in the US.  we are also right in the middle of the bible belt. the dixie chicks spoke their mind and because there from such close minded ignorant places people turned against them.

I was in Alabama in '05 and it was one Baptist Church after another. We were in the Buckle of the Bible Belt. I must admit, I didn't know much about the Dixie Chicks other than Natalie Maines "got on my nerves" -But, I've had a change of heart.

Haha. I grew up in Lubbock. After moving away for four years, I moved back. I left again after 10 months. I just couldn't live there. It's a nice place to visit but I don't understand how anyone can leave there. I'm glad I got out.

I agree with NayRoc1. Lubbock is full of racists and bible thumpers. I've heard there are more churches per capita in Lubbock than any city in the US. I could believe that. The people in Lubbock are too closed-minded and uncultured, generally speaking. While some people in Lubbock are good people, they are few and far between.

@dripsey3 Although I'm a Lubbock native and I love the Dixie Chicks, I think the comparison is a bit unfair. Did Natalie spearhead an entire genre of music? No. Is she indirectly responsible for one of the biggest rock bands in history (like Buddy Holly and the Beatles?). No. Buddy Holly is a legend in his own right. I've been to the Buddy Holly Center, and their commitment to that legacy is very sincere, even if the city didn't understand rock 'n roll when Buddy helped CREATE it.
