Try to find a non-kill shelter. SPCA isn't usually a good choice because they're swamped with strays. A shelter might even have a lactating cat that will "adopt" them, and the shelter can treat them, spay/neuter when they're a little older, and adopt out. Kittens get adopted easily.

Somebody left a kitten at our front door in a pizza box. We took care of it for a couple months and then it was adopted by a really great owner. :) I still don't see how anyone can just drop off kittens though. It's so sad.

Dry food is very cheap (20 lbs), or scraps from the dinner plate. They mostly need protein.

My neighbors wanted to spite me by not letting me feed 5 stray kittens in her backyard. Two weeks later, they all died, including the mother cat. I bought $20 worth of Fancy Feast and she wouldn't let me into her backyard to feed them. Can a law be passed to fine people like this? This has happened 2 other times, for a total of 16 dead kittens over the past 2 years! What can I do??!

the mother "abandon" her kittens in front of humans' door when she knows she won't be able to take care of them. it's a common phenomenon.
