A better solution to global warming

are there any negative impacts that greening the deserts have on nature's natural order since I'm assuming nature was balanced with the existing variations of arid, tropical, etc?

Yes, there will be some negatives. Here is an especially relevant comment:

Despite the negatives I believe that if we don't divert roughly one half of all anti climate change investment into greening the deserts we will be unable to stop the probable flooding of Florida, New York and cities in China just as Mr. Gore suggested could happen in An Inconvenient Truth!

Perhaps the best part of greening the deserts is that it will reduce heat going into the atmosphere which might stop further melting of Arctic and Greenland ice.
