  • One of the most well-known pieces in the organ repertory. You need to articulate clearly, tempo was great. When pedalling take care to look ahead and find the right notes. On a 32 note pedal board you have to take even more care!

  • Not a bad job, I just learned this piece on piano, I don't have a organ at home so I had to learn the hand part on the piano. then i'm going to my church organ to figure out the pedal part. Could I ask you how long it took to learn it? and agian good job.

  • Good to see that Moller Still kickin!

    Good tempo

  • They say that it's not too difficult,

hey this performance proves what can go wrong, I bet the bloke had a few beads of sweat on his forehead during and after the performance and also the man turning the pages! I would like to have a go at it soon, if I could do a tiny portion that that man did I would be glad, well done!

P.S. How do we cope with 13 note bass pedals?

  • I have the same problem, I play stuff perfectly and the mess it up infront of people

  • Liasen to Peter Hurford's performance (on CD). It's slower than this (a little bit). It is in fact the tempo Widor played himself (available on CD) and it sounds wonderful.

  • That's cool... I have heard Widor's recording... which is where I got this tempo... and as we all know we end up playing faster than we practiced when we perform it... check out my Buxtehude... I blazed through that - I was shocked hearing the recording for the first time! I was not aware that Hurford had recorded that... although I should not be surprised - I love Peter Hurford - esp. his recording of the Liszt BACH.

  • Du lieber Gott! Wieso musste das Video ins Netz gestellt werden? Graußam ist kein Ausdruck mehr. Mis ist ganz schlecht nach dieser Aufführung. Nun muss ich ko.....en

  • Well... I shall answer that in the only German I know... in the words of my dad: "Das es einen guglefarten, meine liebe!"

  • and what kind of comment is this? and you are criticising my comment on your video?

  • yes

  • Nice effort! I'm a piano major (with some organ experience), and I know what happens when nerves take over! I really liked your use of the stops, as well as the slower tempo. It's on the right track--a little more time in the practice room and you've got it!

  • It sounds ok but I wish there wern't so many mistakes. :(

  • Its awful when nerves take over.. Feel so sorry for you man, Im sure you've learnt it perfectly by now and played it eyes shut.. ;-) dont stop playing it..

  • why take too long.

  • but on the bright side, you do cover up mistakes well. faking it like a baptist! XD

  • cool... i'm glad... I am Baptist.

  • me too...and that's why i also suck

  • I'm baptist but practice in an episcopalian church along with teacher it's kinda wierd

  • yeh, i would practice that until you could at least get all the way through it without stopping before you perform it. i feel embarassed for you. sorry man.

  • The touch is a little too legato. There are clearly

technical problems which could be solved by very

slow practice. Before the entry of the pedal, you

are much too tentative. Get back to the practice

room and you should see some improvement in the

future. Remember, do not play a piece before its

    time! Good luck.

  • I'm playing also this piece and it is really so powerful.

But I like to play it fast and I think you should hear the version played by Nicholas Kynaston (Not on YouTube, not on iTubes but you can find it only on CD). Then you will understand what is the real power of the Toccata from the 5th Symphonie of Widor. Probably, you will never support to hear it slowly anymore...

  • Very slow, it's dragging a lot, like he's struggling to get his fingers around it but credit to him, a very challenging piece of music and if he loves it well, it can only get better and better! I couldn't do it!Well done!

  • Try playing the notes in th middle of the arpeggios in staccato.

  • I know a Doctor in Music who cuts this tune short just of the last bit because he finds crossing over the hands difficult. I can play perfectly, I have a brilliant ear, it's just i can't sight read very well, that's what's holding me back from being a full virtuoso.

  • Don't mean to be critical-- but while the performance is somewhat passable -- and it sounded like he forgot something and also sounds like just too many mistakes which he does not cover up well. I found it just too slow and tedious.

  • Terrific!!! one little star.

  • That piece reminds me of the infinite Glory of Heaven.

I could never coordinate the composition well enough to play it myself but admire you for sitting up there giving it your best in Honor of GOD. I'm sure even the most techincly advanced musicians or machine that could hit every note would only sound like a baby cooing in the presence of Almighty GOD. It always inspires me to see others striving to offer their talents in praise...MAY JESUS CHRIST BE PRAISED!!!

  • It is a beautiful instrument. There have been some comb action issues lolz... but a good deal of the pipework is from the earlier Moller this one replaced. The action is electromechanical with the exception of the high pressure solo which is electropneumatic... leather is NOT compatible with all the oilfield chemicals we have in the dry air out here! Thank you for your encouraging comments... they mean a lot to me.

  • Definately not ready for Prime Time, but so nice to know that they embrace the organ out there in west Texas. Beautiful organ. They are to be commended, so is the organist. Thanks

  • The tempo is not too slow, just a little unsteady. A hair faster would be good. But...all in all..considering you had to play it on a Late Moller, good job!

  • So we had an organist, who is has a doctorate and has played at the Vatican, play at my sister's wedding. Let me tell you that he BUTCHERED the song. He cut it short and all, but it was horrible.

    Congrats, you're better than him!

  • Man, I LOVE the organ. I wish I was talented enough to play!

  • good stuff

  • wayyyy to slow, pick it up a bit

  • Actually, Widor hated this piece being played too fast. I never play it as quickly as, say, Marie-Claire Alain who always races through it without much expression. The wee guy did well.

  • He's playing it to fast still, you need to be able to hear the individual notes of the arpeggios.

  • No, please don't you dare take away the organ "stuff".

  • Ya this was a live performance. I got lost... Did you look at the rest of the recital? and do I need to take the organ stuff off to get you people to watch the piano and saxophone? lol

  • Yeah some misakes but hey it's a good effort- and he kept going, chewed his way through. Takes courage... not easy when you've got a bunch of people staring at your neck

  • quite a few mistakes...

  • Congratulations Dustin! Beautiful Performance. I'm very proud of your hard work.

  • The video was a little shaky, but I enjoy seeing stuff like this. The performance was amazing. I wish more of our culture appreciated this kind of art!
