I understand that when teaching Spanish for beginners, you give them rules like "having the pronoun 'se' means it's reflexive" but that isn't the case. Sometimes, adding "se" changes the meaning of the word (morir = to die, morirse = to die suddenly or unexpectedly). And "comerse" is used (or at least here in Spain) to indicate eating a large amount, such as "Me comí un pavo entero." It doesn't mean "I ate myself," it simply adds emphasis on how much I ate.
